@Bad Superman,

I think it's more of a case that Clinton knows that Elliot is bi and knows that he's personally said some flirty things. Because of this, Clinton is hyper-aware of everything he says to Elliot because he's trying not to say anything that could be misconstrued as more flirtation.

That would be 81 and 85 instead of 61 and 65, though I doubt the coders would revert to EBCDIC and instead may be using something more exotic like using multi-state memory cells in any system capable of hosting an AI. {The esteemed creator may-or-maynot have gone that far in-depth in their technology designs}

In case no one looked it up, soda bread is made with baking soda, and is essentially unleavened.

In case no one looked it up, soda bread is made with baking soda, and is essentially unleavened.

The baking soda is the leavening agent: it interacts with a mild acid in the dough (lactic acid in buttermilk perhaps) to form bubbles that leaven the bread. It's the same process as with pancake batter.

Just me who will now use 'what's your favourite kind of bread?' as their go-to awkward silence breaker?

Well, I will now.

Tip: instead of buying self-raising flour or baking powder, you can buy baking soda and cream of tartar. Use two parts cream of tartar to one part baking soda in place of baking powder in your recipe. If the recipe calls for 1 teaspoon of baking powder, for example, use half a teaspoon of cream of tartar and a quarter teaspoon of baking soda. This will emulate baking powder, which normally also contains one quarter rice flour or something similar.

Why bother? Unless you're using it frequently, baking powder will tend to lose its potency over time. This also allows you to omit the cream of tartar if you want, in the case where there is already acid in the mix (e.g. buttermilk).

To make self-raising flour, make two teaspoons of baking powder per cup of plain/all-purpose flour (1 tsp cream of tartar + 1/2 tsp baking soda).

Baking soda as leavening agent makes bread quite light and fluffy, but also a bit dry. And it get's old quite fast. Eating it without butter and something on top can be kinda challenging. Soda is better suited for pastries or cakes, IMO. So I'm with Clinton here.

And I think Roko looks quite nice in her cropped top. Maybe I'm robosexual too?  :-D

Poor Clinton! I think that we can list 'soda bread' as a negative experience for him. It's nice that he's trying to not make a thing about it but it's pretty clear that it's an important thing for Elliot. Maybe a deal-breaker? Something tells me though that Brun (in her entry for 'Cutie of the Arc', previously dominated by Roko) is more than willing to 'clean up the mess'!

Panel 1 has caught and held my attention though. I can't help but meditate on the irony of Elliot looking at someone and clearly thinking that they're cute when their naive. Is Clinton being naive though, or is he taking Roko's previously-stated claim that she feeds birds in the park as factual because he's polite like that?

Does Elliot know about Roko's fetish?

I don't think that you can say 'he knows'. Renee told him that she thinks Roko has a bread fetish and he took her word for it; I also think that what he's seeing of Roko's behaviour supports that theory.

Interesting idea, because commercial ice cream contains a bunch of additives designed to help give it a nice light texture.

There's also lemonade scones. They've been around awhile.

This comic makes it slightly less likely that I try to make soda bread.

As someone who has soda bread on a regular basis, its definitely one of those breads that needs a bit of butter. Its dry, needs that moisture from the butter.

But its a tasty bread. Its just carelessness on Elliot's behalf and not having a glass of water on hand, at the very least.

Yes, I agree with Castlerook. I really wouldn't eat soda bread unadorned. It's a vehicle for butter.

Huh... Seems like a flatbread like nan. I bet it is tasty with butter and some kind of sweet jam.

I am surprised Elliot didn't know enough to show Clinton the proper way to eat it.

I think she and Clinton would be adorable together, but if it went down before a year or two I'd be surprised as we just got Faybles. Then again, who knows? All the "tension" is fun either way. :)

There's LOTS of plot fodder in cop-with-non-cop-SO, especially if the participants aren't acknowledging how significant the other is to them.  Add to the mix that the traditional gender roles would be reversed with Roko and Clinton.  They could Friend Zone each other for a couple years or more before the "What the Hell, Faye and Bubbs are doin' it!" moment strikes and they both shout with one voice, "Bring on the pumpernickel!!

"The grocer told me what you do with bread" anyone else remembering that one...

---------------------------------

There was a time when I was really broke after my house burnt down and I was sofa surfing for a few weeks that I more or less lived on soda bread made in the microwave.  One advantage is that you can do small quantities so I was having it fresh for every meal. I'd managed to salvage my box of cooking stuff so I at least had cinnamon and things to ring the changes.

I finally put two and two or in this case baking powder and flour together and got Banok - a staple if wilderness camping in scouting - just wrap it around a stick and roast it over the fire then smother in marmalade or mix fresh picked berries in the dough then smother in maple syrup after roasting. Now I'm hungry again.

I can't see Clinton being down with rubbing bread on Roko's butt.

I really don't understand why that turns her on...

The leading theories, at least for me are:
  • She has a strong pleasure response to the smell of bread for some reason;
  • She enjoys the sensation of the texture of bread in contact with her skin.

Tea sniffing is as normal as drinking tea. Roko is embarrassed about the bread thing because it's not "normal." Melon was like "I don't really understand why it's sexy," which probably made Roko feel even more awkward about it. At least she's open with one friend about it. Renee, unfortunately, has a big mouth, so Roko may end up sharing with more people than she expected.

Yeah, didn't previous comics say it was specifically about rubbing bread on her body?

EDIT:
Specifically, 3694 (where it's implied Roko chose Pintsize because of his profile), and 3711 (where it's pretty much explicitly stated she likes that).

If it does happen to be #1, then I've gotta say that I have no trouble at all understanding what it does for her.

Freshly baked bread. Mmm. Sorry, I just need a moment.

Keep in mind that tea sniffing produces different results in different people.

Roko's embarrassment isn't about enjoying bread, it's about anything that turns her on (including Assam tea, which appears to specifically invoke sexually appealing hallucinations in AIs and Emily (see 3427, 3570, 3575 for examples involving Roko, and 3556 for Bubbles being under the influence)).

Kinks are often incomprehensible to those that don't share them. Sapient minds are weird and do all kinds of things that don't make sense. I'm into things others aren't. And plenty of people are into things I don't understand. We like what we like.

As for Clinton, you don't have to be into what your partner is in order to do it for them. Sometimes it's enough just knowing that you are pleasing them.

Bubbles' experience was in a guest strip so its canonicity is debatable.

True, but it's the strip that established Assam as the tea that induces uniporn hallucinations, and subsequent strips treated it as if it happened.

What I'm getting at is that 3570 and 3575 elevated 3556's use of Assam (if not Bubbles's experience with it) to canon, basically saying that 3556 was correct about the type of tea in 3427.

She's a robot. A lot of human kinks would probably look ridiculous to an outsider.

Hell, even common human kinks look ridiculous to other humans who don't share them.

Nearly everyone is easier to get along with after they've had gratifying sex.  As long as all the participants are of lawful age and competent to give consent, let 'em have at it - the world will be a far mellower place.  That's why I consider it urgent for Jeph the Creator to let poor Roko get magnificently laid.
