There didn't seem to be a WCDT for this coming week yet so I thought I'd attempt one (the stickied thread said it should be alright but if not then feel free to lock/delete!)

I've seen various suggestions on here and Patreon for what outfits Bubbles should try next in her experimentations with fashion. Collected a few of these in the poll and added one or two extras.

What's everyone anticipating for the week ahead? We've had quite a few characters turn up recently, so this week's comics could be more Faye/Bubbles bonding, further delving into Clinton and Claire's backstory (or indeed Brun's), bread-related antics from Roko, or more bizarre scientific musings from Dale and Emily.

Love the idea of the floral print dress but the idea I had that made me laugh was

Princess Leia cosplay.  CinnaBuns hair, long white dress & blaster ;) Of course Faye would rock as Han...

Have to put Bubbles in a "Teh" Shirt. Gotta keep the Topataco Store in business.

Hope she’s not tossing everything off the bed.  Pintsize can handle it, but I’m not sure about the laptop.

Yeah, I think that Claire has reached her breaking point. I suspect that the crew will need to stage an intervention and do so very soon! Pintsize may need to call Marten, who may need to take a personal day to help Claire get on top of things (specifically postgrad career direction and/or a temporary job).

Meanwhile, I'm wondering if, in her freak-out, she's attempting a Mary Poppins solution: Throw everything into the air with a positive attitude and, Lo! It is all magically done when it has come back down!

Regarding Claire's future job: I think that she may end up tutoring Sam (who, like many, doesn't perform well outside her areas of interest) and some of her friends. I get the impression that she's a good teacher. Either that or Tai contrives to get Claire a gig at the library.

Answering the poll and offering a suggestion to today's comic: Bubbles and Claire should go shopping for clothes together. Claire had some great 'dress up' montages that show a remarkable range, I am sure she could assist Bubbles very well...

Re poll: I agree with the basic premise of 19th century clobber, but strongly disagree with the idea of corset and bustle. That would merely look good.
Bubbles needs to be *magnificent*.

I see a long red coat. I see brocade, I see gilt, I see brass buttons shined until they fuckin' gleam.
I see eppaulettes.

The tricorn is optional. While it would look amazing, she has a sense of decorum and would never wear a hat indoors.

A white ruffled shirt. A cravat. Breeches and excellent boots.

In short, a badass Sgt. Pepper.

Bubs: a 2B outfit from Nier: Automata would make her look really badass!  :-D
For real: i like the casual loose-fitting attire. A pair of cargo-pants would look great on her, combined with a nice colourful t-shirt.

Claire needs a break. Maybe partying for one night would be enough, it did wonders for me in those days.
We don‘t know yet if she‘s facing a more serious crisis.
But this is QC. So maybe, yes.

Viz. Claire, in this strip. I have been there. Didn't get a MLIS, but do have a M.S. and a Ph.D. Prelims or comprehensives (or whatever they're called in comic universe) are so much work, and in her situation it comes at the end of her academic career, so she's struggling with the idea that she needs to find a job afterwards. Definitely empathize with the impulse to just throw everything.

Nice to see Jeph addressing the anxiety of going out in the real world after graduate studies, which tends to be a somewhat underestimated issue that is often waved away by those not having been in grad school. Many think that just having a MS/PhD is a guarantee for finding a job immediately and making boatloads of money. This is true for very few majors though, and the reality is often otherwise for most majors.

While grad school can be, and often is, stressful on its own accord due to lack of money, fear of failing, intellectual challenges, etc., it is at the same time also quite a protective bubble that keeps you safe and in a low-risk position for years. Often the longer you are in grad school the more daunting it is to go into industry, I think. I found it quite daunting myself to put myself out there and find a 'real' job after many years in grad school, and I would consider my major to be a relatively 'safe' one in terms of prospects....

A break? Hmmm, yes maybe but Im gonna side with Clinton and say that she is in need of talking about it. By the way she looks and how she just ”deleted” the memories of that conversation with her brother, yeah... that ain’t healthy. It Will bite her in the ass if she keps that route.

Nier: Automata kinda feels a little cheap there, but yes.
Her size takes away some of the loose, and turns it into somewhat light.

My nephew is finishing his master’s degree this week, so I’ve been seeing some of this at a bit of a distance. The few times he’s surfaced from studying to look around lately he’s had a mildly panicked expression on his face.

Now he’s applying to medical schools. It’s a question of hitting a target that combines “Where can I get in?” with “What schools are good in the area where I want to specialize?” and “What school won’t leave me $80,000 in debt?”

Wasn't it something like bathroom cleanser?  We saw it before, but I just had a tooth pulled, and with the pain meds, looking for the particular comic will send me down a rabbit hole I'll never get out of.

Based on the appearance of seams, it does indeed appear to be a tube top.

Wasn't it something like bathroom cleanser?  We saw it before, but I just had a tooth pulled, and with the pain meds, looking for the particular comic will send me down a rabbit hole I'll never get out of.

That was drain cleaner. Melon requested something stronger afterwards. This might violate certain chemical weapon treaties.

On the other list as options for T-Shirts
Rush - Power Windows or better yet Clockwork Angels
Police - Ghost in the Machine - a classic period design
Anime - Ghost in the Shell - the original Anime, not the Hollywood adaptation - The actor selection was only slightly off putting but the plot massacre was pure Hollywood

I think that there is a metaphor for Bubbles entire life in this strip: It would be one of contemplative bliss, if it weren't for the loud and extrovert people who keep dropping in uninvited. Admittedly, one of those drop-ins ended up as her girlfriend but that's a rare win and think of how long it took Faye to graduate from 'annoying co-worker'!

Melon is just so wonderfully and unselfconsciously friendly (also, making comedy noises when suffering prat-falls seems to be just right for her). Unfortunately, she's also one of those people who don't know when they're becoming annoying!

Also also, is Melon wearing a tube-top?  Or just a shirt colored to her skin?

Yes, she's wearing a tube top. Indeed, she's also wearing cut-off shorts; she's wearing less in every appearance to the point where I wonder if Jeph is contemplating making her a Naturist!

I can't be the only one who is getting a little tired of Melon, can I?

I mean, at this stage, if this was a scripted comedy, the script for every other character could be meticulously planned out, and all Melon's directions would ever be is "And Melon does something wacky".

It just feels old and stale now.

She was nude from the waist down in her first appearance. And didn’t seem the slightest bit self-conscious about it.

From the bucket, I'm guessing it's the drain cleaner again. Either that or some other sort of cleaner. What all cleanrs are green like that?

Anything can be really. Color is rarely an indication of what a cleaner is, more often than not it's some sort of dye added to make it a color. I'm more concerned with the the fact that it's apparently filled to the lip, or is faintly glowing. And super concerned that Melon may take to mixing different chemicals. Some of which can turn to toxic gas or become acidic when combined.

Maybe Melon found it in the sewers near four infant turtles and a rat.

Don't be alarmed. I'm pretty sure it's not some noxious gas producing cleaning agent mix. Just some radioactive goo.
