I feel like they could open their own separate shops if things get too intense.

There was a restaurant in town run by a very nice lesbian couple that my dad absolutely loved.  When he saw it was going out of business, he offered his sympathies and surprise to one of the owners - they seemed to be doing just fine.

"Oh, we were, from a business standpoint.  The thing is, we discovered that we can be a couple or we can be business partners but we can't be both, and we decided on being a couple."

I can see Faye and Bubbles realizing that they can't do both, talking it over, and either closing the business or making it Bubbles' thing while Faye gets back into art.  Opening their own separate shops would just make things worse, if they're both trying to do repairs, because as bad as it is being partners how would they handle being competitors?

Maybe Faye and Sam could branch out into doing sprays.

I'm pretty sure it's a health code violation to serve drinks that have been previously served to other customers (even if they were not actually consumed or even touched).

Yep, at least in MA. Learned this a while ago when a side of white rice was given to us which we did not want. We told them to take it back since we didn't want it to be wasted, but they told us they would have to throw it out now anyway.

Not sure about Dora's ethics here either...

Yeah, I kind of saw this one coming. In planting this seed in Sam's head, Faye inadvertently created a monster! Just to make things worse, Sam is a 'this is my way of telling you...' person when it comes to information exchange with parents or putative business partners. I suspect that a certain girl may have bit off more than she can chew this time.

There could be a breach coming between Sam and Faye if Faye insists that Sam follow her rules. Either that or Bubbles will assert herself as the new Skullmaster and Sam will obey. :-P

Here's a prediction: Swordsmary is a synthe-hipster but is actually remarkably conventional and middle of the road in most ways. She has an unspectacular job like 'insurance clerk' and her sartorial style is all about trying to create some aspect of her life that lets her tell herself that she's exciting and edgy!

Yes, I am well aware of that, but taht's a separate issue. Your point is? It would still not be okay to resell previously sold (and more importantly, in some way by the customer consumed/sniffed/utilized) foods/beverages, and definitely not without letting your customers know that what they're consuming was previously sold to and sniffed by other customers (whether AI or human).

I'm pretty fussy about foodstuffs and beverages, but I don't think I'd have any problem drinking something an AI sniffed. There shouldn't be any nasal hair or booger issues.  Maybe if there was a small discount for "previously sniffed" tea? I'm more of an iced tea drinker, does it harm/degrade the tea to re-warm it?

They might not have nasal hair, but what about coolant, lubricants, hydraulic fluids and the like?

But then, serving Melon's favourites may be as big an issue.

It may be fine, and many customers may be fine with it, but at the very least it should be clear to them that they are getting 'reused' beverages.

I'm already wondering how Swordsmary knows Melon.  (Note I said "how," not "if.")

The point isn't being bothered by drinking something someone sniffed. Actually, an AI sniffing is more sanitary anyway. No boogers possibly falling into the tea, or little skin flakes. *shudder*

The point is that it's against MA law to resell tea that's already been sold, even if it was never consumed. It's against health codes or something.

Because once a food product leaves the control of the restaurant or whatever they have no idea what might have happened to it. That would include a robot sniffing it over in the corner. Malicious or accidental contaminants could be added. If they resold some of that tea and woops, some cleaning fluid was added and nobody noticed and someone got sick drinking it that's a big ol lawsuit and safety hazard. If for no other reason Dora should avoid it because it could utterly destroy her business.

Once money has changed hands, any foodstuff should be considered consumed and selling any leftovers is a massive no-no.

And an AI chassis is no more sanitary than a person. Consider this; Bubbles works in a machineshop - that involves machined particles, various fluids including industrial lubricants and other substances not fit for human consumption. Bubbles might wash her hands before leaving the workshop, but those particulates can be notoriously difficult to remove with just a handwash, largely due to them not being on the hands, they can get caught in the hair and so on.

It doesn't matter if all Bubbles or any other AI does with the tea is just sniff, it should be treated as contaiminated/consumed and therefore should not be resold.

What if, and of course what do I know, the AI's are just getting the leaves and the actual tea gets added to the iced. This will potentially solve all problems since the tea never leaves the businesses hands and the AI's get their aromatic responses.

It is definitely brewed tea.
