Comic’s up.

The way Bubbles trims hair is... alarming.

Combat trim.

Also, for someone usually "toying" around with knives Faye looks rather concerned. Maybe she is concerned because she knows her fair share about knife usage.

Man I would KILL to have bangs like that. And her hair's even longer than what I was able to grow. Of course I'm sure an AI can grow it arbitrarily long - she could put Konata Izumi (Lucky Star) to shame.

Done properly Bubbles probably could use her hair as melee weapon, if she ever decided to grow it out really long.

A classic foxhole barber trick. As a soldier, she had to use her resources and with the right calculations and feathering she could have a proper look without spending money at a stylist.

If it's strong enough, it could be like a machete: sharp and heavy.

This has certainly been a hair-raising storyline.

But now it seems like Bubbles is going to make it a cut above.

Bubbles doesn't 'miss' but we can reasonably ask if she is necessarily aiming for the right target. All aesthetics are personal, after all. Additionally, I can't help worry that she's showing off to Faye: "This is how you go the extra mile with customer service!"

Momos long hair looks so much anime, I love it. She's right with her bangs, though. They're a bit too short and don't fit the look of her long hair. Just above the eyebrows would be better. Should'nt take too long in the vat.

Today's strip is all about the facial expressions. Panel 1 with Bubbles' nervousness about how she actually cut Momo's hair; also maybe a little shame a lying about it because she can't even meet Momo's gaze. Then there's panel 3 so wonderfully in-character with Momo desperately not wanting to appear ungrateful or pushy.

However, for me, the real pay-off is panel 4 and both Bubbles and Faye's expressions: I think that there's a squabble offing, given Bubbles' clear disbelieving annoyance. But Faye's response is just so wonderful! The cry of "What? What did I do? I don't get it!" is just so clear that you can't help feel for Faye and the fact that she's genuinely struggling to understand how she's managed to insult Momo when she was trying to compliment her! Faye, for the record 'looking punk' is not a universal compliment and you shouldn't assume people are glad to be told that they do so!

So, yeah: Jeph got the visual comedy and storytelling just right here.

Wait,

If Momo does not want to be called a punk based on her haircut and hair color combination, why does she not just activate her belly button power and change her hair color to something more subdued, a brown hair pixie cut/ short bangs is far far less "punk" than a bright pink on anything.

Not everyone likes changing their hair colour. Momo has always had pink hair, even in her previous Sony 'ChibiPC' chassis. She's a pinkette the way Claire has red hair and Marten has black.

The lesson? Don't assume someone is part of a subculture just because they mimic bits of the aesthetic.

The lesson? Don't assume someone is part of a subculture just because they mimic bits of the aesthetic.

It was Fayes comment, "...still looks pretty punk, with the pink hair."  that made me think of it. If most people in QCverse associate pink with punk and Momo starts hearing it more and more it could lead to her thinking about changing it. As she is already changed the length of it to try and curtail the association already. Because as she has clearly stated she does not want to be associated with that at all.
So she may find that even fixing her hairstyle that might not fully do the trick and thus think about color changing. Momo has before talked about wanting to be more human-like and changing hair color to fit ones personality is VERY human.

We can say don't assume anything about anyone and at the end of the day people still will always do so subconsciously.

Because she shouldn't have to. Pink is the colour of hair she was essentially born with. She shouldn't have to change it just to avoid people's assumptions.
