"Dammit Jeph!"
« on: 14 Feb 2019, 20:38 »

Sometimes Jeph makes me have tumult in the feels. These rumblings cause spontaneous eminations of "Dammit, Jeph!" with a huge grin.1

It he does that to you, post the strip# that made you have the feels in the special place here with or without comment. I'm especially interested in making a 'feels list' when folks dive the archive.2

The comic that inspired this thread was:
  • #3940: "You're having thoughts again." (OMG THOUGHTS IMA DIE)
Which strip made you damn Jeph cry, "Dammit, Jeph!" to eternal torment by your blasphem-- in delight?

-----
[1]Sometimes there are also gestures and eyerolls, but the happy is always in the middle of the feel.
[2]It's been over a year. I'm due. Maybe you are too.

For me the most feels-inducing moment in QC is probably comics 2157-2160 (Station asking Hannelore to stay in space).

"Faye, will you help me take off my armor?"

For me it was a bit later ... when they actually got together.

Also, a little dammit jeph moment for me was brun's face in the last panel of 3939.

Maybe it shouldn't count because it was a guest strip, but this one;

https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2987

It said to me "You are accepted and loved and safe here and anyone who says otherwise can fuck right off."

The comic that shocked me the most was certainly the #3643. I found it really disturbing the first time. Melon seems to live some awake nightmare. There was no grinning involved...

You know, of all of the Dora-Marten breakup comics, the one that got to me was this one. Poor Hanners.

I know it's quite off-topic, but I used the "That's what friends are for" line today. Although it was more of a pleasant context, especially than the original.

I'm still waiting for the day when I'll read the comic and gonna just throw my phone in the corner muttering "goddammit jeph"

I can't believe Bubbles has been around long enough for the art to look that different. I am baffled at how quickly time moves in real life relative to this comic.

Yeah, when you think about it, time really does go by faster than you think.

52 weeks x 5 strips/week = 260 strips/year

3965 strips / 260 strips/year = 15.25 YEARS.

Yeah, when you think about it, time really does go by faster than you think.

52 weeks x 5 strips/day = 260 strips/year

3965 strips / 260 strips/year = 15.25 YEARS.

According to the About page, QC started August 1st, 2003, with three strips a week for what I calculated as roughly the first year (it's been running 23 weeks longer than it should be with five times a week and not missing a single day). I've been reading since somewhere in 2011 (I think, it's what I figured out from what I thought to be the first strips I remember reading before actually starting at 1).

Tomorrow, Friday March 22nd, it's going to be fifteen years, seven months and three weeks since the comic started. Or five thousand seven hundred and twelve days. Yes, I did type that out, because yeah, it DOES feel like a lot, looking at the numbers. Dammit Jeph!

Same here, but it took three or four attempts.  I kept on trying to start from the beginning and got bogged down.

I've told this story before, but... the third (or fourth?) time I followed the link from xkcd, i saw this;

And sure enough, I had to know how they got there.  So I started reading backwards, watching the story and characters ... undevelop?  And following it forwards as well, and at some point I went back to the beginning, trying to tie what seemed to be such radically different comics together.

I met in the middle somewhere, right around "the talk".  I was emotional for days.  My wife asked me what was wrong, I was never really able to say.  How do you explain to someone who has no regard for an art form how much it moves you?  It's a little like when she speaks to me about dance performance - I really just don't get it.  At an intellectual level, sure, but not in the feels.

So my second "Dammit, Jeph" entry - because it still leaves me grinning whenever I look at it - is speed beer, AKA "WHEEEEE!!".

And yes, I have the print.

I kinda second that. Doesn't feel like Tai has been a part of the comic for more than 80% of the strips, right?
Hell, Brun is one of the newest characters, and she's been around since somewhere in 2016. Well, that's almost 760 strips away, or 152 weeks. Jeez, That's just like a month short of three years of our time.

I started about 6ish months ago, when it showed up in a pinterest feed.  Thought" this is very good" and binge read most of not all of the strip.  Ha e to admit, I still get a little verklempt when I reread arcs like Bubbles/spookybot, or Faye's backstory.  And thanks to this community, gotten a little more knowledgable about the human spectrum.

I just realised how many people here are quite much older than me. when I started reading I was in my mid 20s, and the comic had been running for the better part of a decade. When it started, I was eighteen, and yet it felt like it only began when I started reading. I can easily imagine people reading the comic were born after the comic started, it's been a decade and a half.

It's weird. it doesn't feel like I've been around for almost eight years now, which is only half the runtime to date.
All I can say is:

Quote

Goddammit Jeph!
And thanks for the entertainment.

I think that, to a degree, how one sees their age is simply a matter of perspective.  Most of the time, I feel like I have one foot in the grave, despite only being in my '30s since I'm surrounded by university students on a constant basis.  On the other, I feel young again when I head to one of the local bars around happy hour.
