If you haven't been to Intercourse, Pennsylvania, for a while, you may find yourself visiting Blue Ball, Pennsylvania, instead. If you do, you can find your way through Bird-in-Hand to Paradise.

I just remembered that in the PDX metro, the area around where Stafford Road and Borland Road cross is called Wanker's Corner.

If Claire were to move, and Marten were to move with her, what would Pintsize do? My first thought is that he would move with them, but he has a life in Northampton, too.

Somehow, I think Pintsize would be just as excited as Marten to move to Fucksburg....

This comic's doing me a concern. Jeph is a big Azumanga fan and this is starting to REALLY feel like it's gearing up for the same sort of "everyone drifts off to the next part of their lives" ending...

So, to recall Jeph's rant on social media around when one of the characters called a snake's bite 'poisonous', I am willing to bet that Jeph knows which Roosevelt but Faye doesn't.

That's a classic JJ troll moment. He knows, he knows a bunch of us know, he knows anyone complaining isn't worth his attention.
I figured it was probably intentional, just felt it needed to be pointed out anyway just in case it was a simple mix up.

Okay, its 3 weeks until comic 4000.
We've had a lot of warm and fuzzy feelings from the comics for the last few weeks.
We haven't had a lot of "drama" lately.
Anyone else feel like we're being lined up for something absolutely horrifying?

I dunno about horrifying, but honestly...what MrGone pointed out doesn't sound far fetched.

I don't think that is where this is going, but I can't say I'd be shocked if it did either.

This is another sweet Claire character strip. Maybe it's me but I think that Claire has a deep-rooted fear of rejection (possibly associated with her father walking out on the family). A part of her really was expecting bad news from Marten, as silly as that seems from a third-person perspective. Marten is being wise, though, not promising in advance. He doesn't really know what the day will hold but he's telling Claire that he isn't just going to run the moment things get tough.

Meanwhile, Claire sort of want to know why Marten didn't give her the shipping update first!

Not horrifying, no; as others said, that isn't his writing style anymore. However, he could decide to give us something game-changing. Twenty strips is enough time to set up or remind us of an ongoing plot or character issue and then have it come to a head in Strip 4000.

If you look back at #1000, 2000, and 3000, there was nothing earth shattering in them.  Maybe JJ is looking to have the characters just move to the next logical phase of their lives.

At least I hope so.

Either that or bailing out Union Robotics, or maybe something else, but I feel like her return is going to at least have a little bit of a "saving the day" vibe.

So, Marten junks a reasonable job he completely lucked into, and follows Claire to Wtfarewe, Montana. What does he do for a job? He's not really qualified for anything, and I presume its just as impossible to feed to people on a new graduate's salary that side of the pond as it is this one.

What's so unimaginable about the idea that he find another, similarly menial, position somewhere after a bunch of applications and interviews with a bit of experience and a decent reference?

Most employers outside of very specified fields really don't care what your degree was in. Hell, most menial labour jobs don't even require a degree. Marten will find another job, that's not even an issue. Will it be a cushy one where he was able to blackmail board members into giving him a better salary and benefits? Likely not, but he'll be able to feed himself just fine. Doubly so if they move anywhere off the coasts where the cost of living isn't so ridiculous.

Late to the party but my suggestion is Pintsize as the flower spreader since nobody with a lick of sense would trust him with the rings.
Mieville might be an interesting selection as a ring bearer.
Even better if their vows are inlaid in glowing elvish runes.

I've wondered whether a thermoluminescent material could be inlaid into a ring so you could warm it up and say "I cannot read the fiery letters".

I've wondered whether a thermoluminescent material could be inlaid into a ring so you could warm it up and say "I cannot read the fiery letters".
I don't know if that would be practical due to the temperatures involved.
Are there any materials that would do that at body temperature?

Long Afterglow Phosphorescent Materials may be more practical though what I worked with years ago had the disadvantage of being larger grained crystals and degraded when exposed to moisture.
Mind you if properly encapsulated you can get any colour of the rainbow. though the blue-green will glow for a long time after fully charged.
They were at the time very specialized lighting sources used for safety lighting on ship walkways, around pools and the tubes in London

Much less heat than Frodo's hearth, though. Boiling water or an incandescent light bulb would be ample.
