The Boys

"The Boys" looks interesting:

The premise is a CIA black ops team is put together to "take care" of any superheroes that get out of line. I know its based off a comic series.

Quote
The series is set in a world where superheroes exist. However, most of the superheroes in the series' universe are corrupted by their celebrity status and often engage in reckless behavior, compromising the safety of the world. The story follows a small clandestine CIA squad, informally known as "The Boys", led by Butcher and also consisting of Mother's Milk, the Frenchman, the Female, and new addition "Wee" Hughie Campbell, who are charged with monitoring the superhero community, often leading to gruesome confrontations and dreadful results.

"The Boys" looks interesting:

Strange as it sounds: It absolutely is ...  :?

Just watched a blonde all-American Superman-clone called "The Homelander" hover over a crowd at a pray-a-thon (or whatever those things are called) citing Psalm 58:10 to raucous cheers. Very contemporary social commentary, one could say ...

Great fun so far - that is, when the laughter isn't sticking in your throat.

The comic it's based on is awesome too. Created by Garth Ennis, the same sick fuck who gave us Preacher.

Ennis had a long run on Hellblazer as well.

Ennis always struck me as an edge-lord teenager valuing gore and spectacle over substance in the same vein as Millar.

It is sailing rather close to the edge, granted, but so far, Karl Urban and Jack Quaid manage to carry it.

Excuse my French, but the plot twist in the end was kind of bullshit, IMHO. Maybe only because it's a cliffhanger.

But HOLY MOLY the rest of the show is one hell of a piece of satire.
Sometimes I wondered how they got away with portraying certain characters and not getting sued.

Oh hey, didn't realize there was a thread about this. I'm liking season two a lot more so far, anyone else excited for this week's finale?

I've heard it's a lot better than the source material, which, as other folks have said, seemed to mainly be edgelord capes territory
