Fruit is the seed-bearing part of a plant. All squash are fruit. So are cucumbers.

But not strawberries.

Will we include berries like bananas?

EDIT: not of those lists include citrons. Cant have citrus fruit without citrons.

And talking of citrus no bergamot either. And if you look at the citrus pages on wikipedia there are a whole load of unusual citrus fruit.

EDIT2: also the K work is a highly offensive term in Africa. Should use Makrut or Thai lime instead of k****r lime.

She has two sisters who chose bodies that have no visual input, but have enhanced audio input.  They're named Blind Lemon and Blind Melon.

Throw “Crunchberry” onto that list too

Cloudberry has not been mentioned yet (it makes a nice liqueur).

Yup, fruit.  In such symbiotic cahoots with wasps that they make you wonder sometimes, but still fruit.

Commonly called one, but nope.  They're a mass of inverted flowers, or "false fruit".

I knew I'd be learning some new botany with this thread, but I didn't expect to learn terms like "false fruit".

I think we may be nitpicking a bit too much here... in fact, I'll add to it by noting that Wikipedia begins its article on false fruits with: "An accessory fruit (sometimes called false fruit, spurious fruit, pseudofruit, or pseudocarp) is a fruit in which..." (emphasis mine).

Given that we seem to have already accepted apples, which are another kind of ‘false fruit’, I figure dates, pears, mulberries, etc. are fine too.

sometimes called false fruit, spurious fruit, pseudofruit, or pseudocarp
"Pseudocarp" sounds like it should be a kind of false fish, instead.

"False fruit" must be like a botanists' secret handshake - it's how they recognize one another in crowds.

Uvaia is a southern brazilian fruit. I'm almost shure it has no name in English.

Probably ought to stick with Love, American Style as the Disney shows, F-Troop, and Mama's Family don't fit the genre at all...   :-D

Maybe they are all combinations of E, L, M, N and O , and the fruit is just a coincidence?
Yes.  Which means that Momo and Ellen are their sisters too.

I'm still wondering about the fact that there are apparently 2,049 of them.

An overflow bug somehow caused a parity bit to be read as data. This is actually Yay’s secret origin.

I know this is boring, but maybe there just happens to be 2049 of them, a perfectly unremarkable number that requires no special explanation whatsoever.

Melon can grasp the concept of reading signs, but apparently not numbers. Maybe she has a problem understanding numbers. It might be a form of dyscalculia. And maybe it runs in AI families. There may not be 2048 of them at all. It may be that it just sounded like an appropriately large number to someone who doesn't really "get" numbers.

Being a power of 2, it may also be an AI goto number for arbitrary largeness. Lemon saying she has 2048 sisters could have been like a human saying "I have, like, a million cousins"; not a literal million, just arbitrarily large.

Or maybe they just have a problem counting sisters.

I'm not looking this up at 6 am after not sleeping at all tonight, but I seem to recall that that line was from Lemon, not Melon.

Yup. Which is why I said,

It might be a form of dyscalculia. And maybe it runs in AI families.

The suggestion being that maybe Lemon doesn't "get" numbers either.

If the discalculia hypothesis is untrue, it would be wildly improbable (even with their quirks) for them to all select the same chassis model and type.
I wonder if the green AI in today (Monday the 12th) is one of the fruit sisters.
