Am I the only one, disgusted by the casual kicking of Pintsize? I mean, he is not physically sensitive to get hurt by that, but he must feel very unloved, even more after his kinda sad reasoning in the one before

I'm pretty sure he was expecting to be kicked. Besides, he is build much like a cartoon character for a reason. Most of the violence in QC is stylized cartoon violence - the more the human characters gets realistically drawed, the less they punch each other.

On the note of arranging video game music, the Bobble Bobble theme but it's New Orleans jazz.

Interesting thing you're doing there, Marty -- you are alternately squicked by Claire even considering catering to foot fetishists, and then (sort of) encouraging. Somewhere between "What did I do?" and "What have I done?"

It’s because Marten strives to be nonjudgmental. He’s not crazy about the idea. But if it’s something Claire really wants to do, he’ll find a way to make peace with it rather than give her a hard time about it, because he considers his negative reaction to the idea to be his problem, not hers.

Well, that's a reasonable guess at the orbital difference between the Earth and Venus at closest approach, so you could rewrite that as:
"...would you mind keeping it on Venus?"

In panel 2, Jeph is definitely speaking through Marten

I feel like the first two panels were Jeph's very thoughts before drawing this strip.

For comic #4094...

1. It will be interesting to see the other girls (Dora, Faye, Hannelore, etc.) reaction(s) to Sven's new hair-"style".

2. "You cut all your friggin' hair off!  Why'd you do that?" ~ Does this men May found Sven's long hair attractive...?  Or just shock at the radical change?  (Or both?)

3. What does that bag of chips' flavor read?  I can only read "CHIP Cheezums [SOMETHING] Dill"...?

I think it just demonstrates how deeply we rely on patterns to recognise things; I had no idea that was Sven until he identified himself! I wonder how his loyal legion of fangirls are reacting to the new look?

Poor May, though! Having sex with Sven feels like it's one of the few things that she's ever experienced that was unequivocally a positive, and now her chassis had ruined that by hurting someone. Still, if nothing else, I think that May should report this intelligence to Roko. It's certainly going to help her campaign to be 're-housed' if her current chassis is not only defective, it's mildly toxic! This is turning into a public safety issue!

2. "You cut all your friggin' hair off!  Why'd you do that?" ~ Does this men May found Sven's long hair attractive...?  Or just shock at the radical change?  (Or both?)

I'm not sure but my thoughts are definitely drifting in the direction of her liking the long hair combined with shock at the change.

My biggest worry? I... honestly think that we may be getting the first pre-shocks of history repeating itself. Faye only wanted it to be sex too, at first; that didn't stop it from developing into an emotional connection that ended up hurting her and Sven both.

I think Faye was lying to herself the whole time.  The sex didn't happen until they'd bonded over Faye accusing him of lying about his guitar, and a couple other encounters where they weren't completely hostile to each other.  Sven, too.  They were forming a friendship, and then they fucked it up with sex, and told themselves it was only sex that they wanted with each other when it wasn't.

With May, on the other hand, it really did start off as curiosity and horniness.  This would be a good chance for Sven to demonstrate his character growth by not repeating the mistakes he made with Faye.  Of course, May's probably not ready for it, but I don't think this is going to be history repeating itself.

No idea why. I just fing the idea amusing.

I'm reminded of the effect and power of pure water.  Whatever fluid they use may be similarly potent.

It is almost as if whenever a character with longer hair starts showing up more often that they get follically massacred.
Does this mean that he will be a major part of the story for the next little while?

Given the previous possibly-forgotten-identity issue, there could also be the whole "how am I supposed to remember that's you if you keep changing your hair" angle/joke.

As I've said before:  water would be a terrifying solvent if we weren't already ourselves mostly made of stuff dissolved in it.

But then, third:  and Jeph's war on Long Hair continues.

I dunno if it means that Sven will be sticking around, but it is IMO part of the observed trend that Jeph himself prefers short hair (or hates drawing long, but more the first I think) and has been working his way through the cast to eliminate the latter.
I'm not a fan of it, myself.  I feel that it reduces the overall diversity of character design.  (I made a previous comparison to drawing everyone as circles, relying solely on size and color to differentiate them.)

I just assume that AI are as interested in biological functions/byproducts as we are with the intellectual and philosophical experience of being an AI.  Why wouldn't there be entire magazines by and for AI dedicated to certain bodily functions?

May just wants everyone to THINK she's constantly consuming the most esoteric and taboo porn she can find.

1. This confirms nothing. Have you never slid a penis against a surface?

2. This was addressed last time they had sex.

edit: 3. this exact conversation comes up almost every time May comes up it feels like. Especially anything with her sexuality. we go round and round in the same patterns.

which... whatever i guess, maybe it's different people going round and round in the same patterns i'm just witnessing from over here. i can't tell you people apart, you're just rectangles on a website! :o

*Channeling my grumpy old chemist father.* Not carcinogenic? Not even according to the state of California? That is surprising!

On the subject of May's body, I feel like we've literally seen her barbie doll anatomy after her last Sven-session. Either way, Sven's apparently happy with whatever he's getting, so it's not like it matters.

Yeah, this is definitely going in the direction of Sven's relationship with Faye: "Oh, yeah, that was just a one-off thing without any emotional content, want to do it again?" I'm wondering how long it will be before May's living at Sven's place and is making elaborate rationalisations for it because of course she's not Clown Boy's girlfriend!

However, we must be on the lookout for the other shoe dropping because we all know how badly the spontaneous fling between Sven and Faye ended. Of course, Sven has come a long way since then and maybe is more able to consider others before reacting on impulse to temptation... at least temptation with someone other than May. Why would this be important? Because I do think that, her demurrals aside, this really is getting more serious for both of them than May has insisted is the case. I think it was more serious for Sven from the start, or so I see in retrospect re-reading those strips.

Going meta for a moment, I think that this is the most 'adult' image that Jeph has ever published in any context, more so even than the post-coital scene that he decided to censor a few months back. Maybe I was wrong when I opinioned that he doesn't want to do stuff like this or maybe he's working himself up to it?

Sven is loaded, right?

I still don't think that May would want 'charity'. I think that there would also be concerns from many direction that he was trying to make her his 'sex doll' or something similar. In any case, that''s missing the point because he's... er... obviously satisfied with the current level of equipment fidelity. No, I think it would be more appropriate and in-character if we had a scene of May made her own choice for herself and, if there was an element of wanting a higher-fidelity chassis, it was because she wanted to give that to Sven.

If those on the coast would just admit it's their smog, it'd be nice.

EDIT:  Granted, the smog isn't as bad as it used to be.

1. This confirms nothing. Have you never slid a penis against a surface?

2. This was addressed last time they had sex.

Last time it was addressed with a watermelon.

Uh.... wasn't it established May was like unto a Barbie doll in certain ways?

I remember her VR body was. Can't recall if this one was stated explicitly...

Also, there's always Bonercat. "Adult", no, "adult", yes, if you get my drift.

Bloody hell.
I went to reply to this, got called away from my desk, and came back to find 20, 000,000 additions!

I think I can gleefully say I called this one.

Didn't think May and Sven would be a one-off.
Also think Sven may offer to get May a new body.
But this could open a very interesting avenue for personal/relationship trauma as May would then be in a body her lover helped her choose...
What if they broke up acrimoniously?  What if May's mild paranoia leads to a "He only wants to be with me because he bought the perfect body for him"? Etc etc... Could also go totally the opposite way, of course.
Sven might not offer to buy one and May get's one through Roko... But Sven could actually be attached to May's crappy old body! And find it hard to adjust to New May...

Probably overthinking it, (No, really??) but as said above.. there are a LOT of ways this could play out.

It's worth noting that Jeph is generally averse to unhappy endings for main characters although, in the case of Marten, Dora and Faye, it took about 3000 strips to get there in all their cases.

If a processor swap is as simple as it was for the one fighter when CW was demonstrating to Faye that the AIs processors aren't damaged (3008), why couldn't May keep her current body (or one Roko procures for her) for daily work and then swap into Sven's dream machine for when they're playing together?  Sven could even keep it at his place so no one needs to know besides May that it's even being used?

What about Dora and Tai in 3022?
