Yeah....  This was my fallback poll. If one of the mods has a better poll, feel free to change it out.

Two of the above poll options have actually been done.

I had thought of another song that my brain was arranging for a brass quintet last week, but I forgot what song it was.

EDIT: typo fix

'Life on Mars' by David Bowie, but it's sung by a barbershop quartet.

“Sweet Dreams” by the Eurythmics, covered by a mariachi band.

Believe it or not, I have actually heard two different versions of this.

Nice to see Pintsize back.  However I suspect we're not going to see an extended appearance from him anytime soon.

"It's the waiting that I hate" is a pretty universal viewpoint. Stress is always made worse by unknown and unknowable factors and I've found that my imagination is both better and worse than reality ever is!

Meanwhile, I suppose we have to thank Jeph for finally answering the mystery of Pintsize. Why does he do what he does? "I just wanted to cool and edgy." In other words like any other loud-mouthed class clown. Never forget just how authentically human the AIs are! I'm not sure how to understand his attraction to Claire's feet but, then again, I freely admit to not getting most fetishes.

Most notorious hacker in Western Massachusetts?  How’s that work?  Hacking is not bound by geography.

It is to the FBI, whose field offices (and thus suspect lists) are bound by geography.

It just means he's found a site he can post (and monetize?) pics of (trans?) feet on.  That's my guess anyway.

Given the way Clinton and Claire are drawn, I kinda doubt Claire's feet are big.  But I've been wrong before.  OTOH, I know a few larger-built women who have feet larger than some cis-men I know, so I'm not at all sure what counts as a masculine foot to begin with.

[Edit to add] I wear a US 12 or 12.5 wide in women's shoes when I do drag for a role and have had the conversation about shoe sizes with cis-females multiple times over the years.  One of my female friends wears US size 11s, and not because her feet are fat or she wants to wear a smaller size, that's just her natural size.  And oh, does she hate shoe shopping - it so seldom results in a find...

I once arranged a version of Freebird as a male/female folk duet, backed by a concertina...

In any case it surely wouldn't do much good for anyone to hack into the exam board, because its not as if they sit on the results weeks before announcing. They're surely assembled very close the the publish date, just a bit of contingency.

Tangentially related. I was at the local Ren Fair over the weekend and actually found foot wear in my size. Some rope sandals in a US mens 10 6E.
They were in the discount basket at 2/3 the standard price. Turns out their 'malformed' hand-made sandals fit perfectly.

Those feet aren't even a womens size 10s (US) is my bet.

Is this the end of Pintsize and Marten's relationship?  Will Pintsize get reborn as a toaster?  Will May get Pintsize's chassis?

'Allo.  Unapologetic foot fetishist dropping in.  Can confirm that Clair does indeed have cute feet.  Unfortunately doesn't quite meet the criteria for "incredibly sexy," but that's mostly due to how high that bar is.  Would definitely having a following as an independent on Youtube or Instagram but might be an uphill battle making it as a professional foot model for magazines.

And that is my two cents.  Ciao.

In recent years IRL, I recall that there is a recognised trend with students getting into some aspect of the sex industry in order to pay their tuition bills. However, in this case, I think it's more an aspect of Claire's dysphoria. It's simple enough; it would be a huge boost to her to be told that her body is attractive and to have people who are willing to pay to see it...?

That aside, I do recall that Marten has always felt a bit traumatised by his mother's chosen career and how it made others react to her. So I would think that he probably has a very, very large set of personal baggage and qualms that would make it hard for him to be wholeheartedly supportive if Claire wants to do this.

All this aside, I wonder if Jeph is going to use this arc to explain 'on the record' why he doesn't really do adult-only pin-ups and the like of his characters.

True; I can see Marten being reluctant to presuppose that he knows better than a subject matter expert who is immediately available to consult on the matter!

Given the discussion Claire witnessed between VV and the old-friend-photog and the impromptu upskirt photoshoot at the wedding table while Claire and Marten were there, I'm pretty sure Claire would be able to accept Marten's deferral to his mother as a subject-matter expert without hating him for not giving the expected ego-boost-statement.

... it would be a huge boost to her to be told that her body is attractive and to have people who are willing to pay to see it...?
  Two things:
A) Not all trans people are interested in external validation of some level of "hotness".  I could name names from my past, but won't.  I think this is somewhat of a fiction non-trans people try to place on trans people.
B) That said, I know cis-people who definitely would do this if they thought they could and it would be an ego-boost for them.  I can also name names from my past that share this kind of viewpoint, but won't.  I pretty sure y'all know at least 2 people like this already...

A quote to elaborate on my poll selection.

"And now, in honour of the 150th anniversary of Beethoven's death, I would like to play "Clear the Saloon", er, "Clair de Lune", by Debussy. I don't play Beethoven so well, but I play Debussy very badly, and Beethoven would have liked that."

If you know of whom I have quoted then you are a true person of culture.

Strauss's "Thus Spake Zarathustra" but in disco (as used in a TV commercial for a local furniture store in the 1970s).
 --or --
"1812 Overture" with accordions instead of cannon (as actually performed by the Lawrence Welk orchestra, in purple and pink tuxedos).

Were it any other character, I'd agree, but this is Pintsize we're talking about. I'm not saying that Pintsize getting kicked or punched is right, but at his core Pintsize is a troll, but a cathartic troll. He gets a rise out of people, knowing that if they get angry/annoyed with him, they're focusing on him rather than their own (worse) problems. Yesterday, Claire was getting frustrated waiting for the results from her exams - today, she's wondering if she has sexy feet.

I don't like his methods, but there's no doubt that Pintsize fulfils his purpose as a companion AI, keeping an eye on the mental health of his companions.

Pintsize had an existential meltdown about Marten a ways back, but yes, this is the first time I remember Marten assaulting Pintsize.  When Bubbles and Pintsize first met, Bubbles left him disassembled.  Others have assaulted pintsize on sight (Sam for one, IIRC).  Faye and the freezer.  All of which suggest Pintsize has other issues besides being unloved...

As someone on the new SubReddit pointed out: Before you judge Marten too harshly, remember that Pintsize just offered Claire illegal services in exchange for her letting him take fetish photos of her feet. I believe that Marten's reaction is proportionate (and, indeed, quite mild) to listening to the kickee sexually harass his girlfriend.

At least he didn't use his torso as a cereal bowl.

Others have assaulted pintsize on sight (Sam for one, IIRC).  Faye and the freezer.  All of which suggest Pintsize has other issues besides being unloved...

Momo caved his head in after she got her new chassis.  Emily hurt her hand punching him in the head, Claire threatened him with a fate worse than death.  And of course, the reindeer.  There are probably more, but it seems as though Pintsize is an acceptable target.

Welcome, new person!

Actually that bugs me too. Even though Marigold said on Twitter that the military bodies just pop back, it's still a bad state of mind you have to be in to kick somebody. Now that Jeph has reimagined AnthroPCs to have civil rights and be treated like any other people, this doesn't fit well.

What bugs me is that people tend to forget that Pintsize tends to sexually harass people, even if it's with the best of intentions. That he gets away with a dent that can pop right out means that he can get away with more than a similar character.

Pintsize is a creepy sexually harrassing perv. If he was human, I would kick the shit out of him if he pulled half that crap with me. He is an acceptable target because he regularly engages in behaviour that warrants getting smacked.

I once arranged a version of Freebird as a male/female folk duet, backed by a concertina...
I have to try to arrange Queen's Innuendo for an instrumental trio of flute, trombone, and cello, with the cello part not being too difficult for a student in their fourth year of learning the instrument - who, I found out on the weekend, has trouble with dotted crotchets, as well as dotted quaver - semiquaver groups.

Should be fun...

One thing that makes Marten and Claire cute in a slightly alarming way is how their insecurities and natural politeness tend to reinforce each other! Still, Marten has a point: Never ask a question that you're not sure you want answered, even if it's only about your feet!

Two other things:
  • In panel 2, Jeph is definitely speaking through Marten; I'm fairly sure that this is why he doesn't have a porn business like Willis!
  • Jeph gets a bonus point for "Pandora's Shoebox"!

I'm not sure there's a way to be totally annonymous AND provide any fetish material that exposes any portion of one's anatomy. A foot fetishist produced hard evidence exonerating Alexandria Ocasio Cortez when someone released a fake 'nude' because the individual in the photo had a condition that AOC does not possess.
