Yes, I admittedly front-loaded the poll with one of my favorites. Shush.

While Namesake isn't outright an Oz story, Oz is very prominently featured in the webcomic and heavily tied to the plot. So I figured it deserved a spot. Especially considering that one of the main characters is the current Wicked Witch of the West, Warrick. Yes, I will happily argue that Skin Horse is in its own way something akin to the Oz books. I placed it down with the other three vast departures from the original books just to be fair. There's also a pretty far off JRPG called Beyond the Yellow Brick Road, and we don't talk about the March Laumer books.

Shoutout to Robert A. Heinlein's Oz in The Number of the Beast for also taking a sci-fi approach to Oz. BTW, it turns out there's a lot more animated shows featuring the Land of Oz than the one I remember airing on weekday mornings in the early 90s.

EDIT: typo fixes and some clarification.

So, who amongst the QC cast resemble Oz characters and which ones?

This is just what happens when I make polls that aren't about food.

EDIT: This list isn't meant to be a ranking. The really bad ones were left off and have already gotten dishonorable mentions either in the post above or below.

My familiarity with everything listed ranges from 'passing' to 'I've been reading the webcomic for 8 years'.

Better Dorothy than Trot. Otherwise that'd make Martin Button-Bright.

Corpse Witch would probably be Mombi.

I've watched a few more than those on the list:
The 2013 Oz the great and Powerful (James Franco as the Wizard, a sort of prequel to the MGM movie)
ABCs Once Upon a Time ended up in Oz as well for a few episodes.
The muppets made a truly bad interpretation of the MGM movie. Now, I like the muppets, but the movies have been of varying quality, from Treasure Island and a Christmas Carol, which I love, to the Wiz of Oz which, as I already mentioned, is really, really bad.
But my favourite Oz is the one from 1925 with Oliver Hardy (of Laurel & Hardy fame) as the Tin Man.
Sidenote: A 1914 version also survives and is available on YT, but I haven't had time to sit down and watch that one yet.

As for the characters, Claire would be Dorothy, Marten as the Lion, Pintsize as the Tin Man, Tai as the Scarecrow (I almost chose Emily, but her problem is probably too much brain rather than the lack of one).

Hmmmm.......Maybe Ozma or one of the Good Witches for Emily? May could be a foul-mouthed Scraps or a gender-bent Nick Chopper.

Crap. Forgot about the 1925 one.
Though I was going for versions that played around with the concept (some much more than others). Which is why I hadn't included Disney's Return to Oz.

I wasn't sure about including the Once Upon A Time episodes since there's so few of them in a much larger plot. I deliberately left off Muppets and Oz: tG&P. Whoever wrote the screenplay very probably didn't read any of the books. I'm pretty sure at least one of the Famous Fourty° was a prequel. Even if there wasn't, there's still a great deal to draw from that was barely touched.

EDIT: No, I haven't read them all.
EDIT2: I had to look up the Good Witch of the South's name. Turns out I forgot that was originally Glinda's title. The Good Witch of the North was original unnamed by Baum (along with the Wicked Witch of the West) and was named "Tattypoo" by Ruth Plumley Thompson.

I forgot to include The Wiz in the poll!
It's the good musical adaptation. I might just clear the poll results, rearrange somethings and add two more options so I can include it.

No, Pintsize is the mayor of Munchkin City. Bubbles is the Tin Man. May is the Scarecrow and Winslow is the Cowardly Lion.

Spookybot is obviously Glinda. And then there’s the Wicked Corpse Witch of the East.

And I believe that Roko is actually Dorothy. She’s looking for a way back home to her old body.

Which makes Melon Toto, I guess?

As for the existing entries on the poll, Skin Horse is the only one I've read, TBH, though a couple are lost in my five century TBR stack

My thoughts, in this order:

1) Huh. Y'know, I was sort of wondering if Faye had ever encountered this information about Claire. I knew it hadn't come up "on camera", but I wondered if she had just picked it up somewhere along the way. Guess not.

2) OMFG Bubbles' yellow dress is the cutest thing EVAR.

3) Is... is that... is Bubbles carrying a PURSE???

I didn't actually squee, but it was close.

I really want to see the purse now.

I think that Faye is probably in too much pain to process this right now. Later she's going to think: "Huh? What did Claire say this morning?" She might ask more questions then. Or, she may introspect about the revelation and associated issues of her relationship with Claire because she is Faye and she does angst on occasion.

Bubbles has a nice retro look going on there. Just needs clutch purse and a string of pearls to go all June Cleaver.

I think that Bubbles likes to dress to her role. In this case, she's going to have to be Team Mom for her two sick room-mates. This sort of demands that you dress like a character from a 1950s TV sitcom.

I have to say that the one thing that struck me in this strip was Claire's side-eye when telling Faye.

It speaks a great deal to a life of wariness.

Edit: looking back I see Faye gave a side-eye to Claire first, but that seems to be more curiosity than wariness.  But since the glances are completely symmetric, it's pretty clear I'm reading a lot of the character into a simple glance.

Huh...  I'm also in the camp of, "I thought everyone knew by now..." or at least Faye, since they live together?  Then again, now that I think about it, Marten and Clinton were the only ones present during the original conversation, and there really isn't any reason for them to have shared it with anyone.  (In fact, protecting her privacy would be the appropriate thing to do anyway)

(And where did all these Monty Python references come from?)

Her reaction does seem to give you that impression but so fare the only ones who know are likely just Marten, Clinton, Tai, Emily, and now Faye. Marten was told directly, Clinton always knew, Tai and Emily likely due to her working closely with both and had a preexisting friendship with them.

None of the others are close to her. There's an outside chance that Tai told Dora but doesn't seem likely given how much Tai respects Claire and how much Claire seems to keep things close to the vest regarding her personal life.

With people that Claire knows, my impression is that she tends to just tell them whenever it comes up.  She told Emily when Emily asked how many people she had kissed (#2571), and Pintsize and Bubbles when they talked about body image & mods (3184, 3337).

I think it might be more of an indication that she & Faye haven't really talked as much.  Maybe with Faye working a lot at the shop and various other things in each of their lives, they're kind of still getting to know each other.

If the old Pintsize never left, can he really be back?

But seriously...the weasel knows Faye'd kill Claire while he hid until she calmed down  :psyduck:

Do we still think Pintsize's "unspeakable urges" are just a front, then?

Doesn't anyone else think that this conversation should have happened a few hundred strips or so ago?

Hands up anyone else who thought that Randy that Bandicoot was back!

Like I said before, Faye is feeling too unwell to really have a 'response' to this revelation right now. However, I'm getting the feeling that she feels ambivalent about not being in the 'trusted person' loop who was told stuff right away, no matter how ridiculous it seems in hindsight for this to be something that Claire would just jump out and mention. As I said yesterday, she might have some questions later on but, for now, her mental focus is too scattered to really have any firm thoughts or opinions.

Do we still think Pintsize's "unspeakable urges" are just a front, then?

Yeah, I do. Notice that he didn't do it. He talked to Claire about doing it. If there was ever an archetypical distraction play from him, this is it. He's trying to make Claire feel better and not think about being ill by focussing her mind on being mad at him instead.

Yeah, he did all that. But he also genuinely thinks it would be hilarious.

Well, if there's even the slightest chance they might go through with it, even if that is infinitesimally small, you might as well propose something you think is hilarious. The distraction is going to happen anyway, so it's a win-win situation, for him.

Somebody mentioned this on the Subreddit and I'm starting to see their point. Doesn't Claire's smile in panel 4 look a bit trance-like? I'm thinking that she's having a slight anxiety attack about having come out to Faye and possibly to Faye's "I really can't be bothered to deal with this now; I feel too sick" reaction. If that's the case, then Pintsize's behaviour makes even more sense.

I wonder how many ill-timed 'practical jokes' he keeps in reserve for when he feels an intervention is necessary?

(And where did all these Monty Python references come from?)

Noooooobody expects....

Anyway...

I think:
Claire should get contact lenses.
She should never be drawn in a flat profile.

I was going to ask where he's kept a possum, how long has he had it, and is it still alive (looks like it is)?  That last one is perhaps of paramount importance, considering the proposed use...

I interpreted Claire's panel 4 face as "I've been accepted" since Faye is willing to allow Claire into the bath at the same time Faye is in there, and probably nekkid.

Though I agree that Faye hasn't really thought through the whole thing yet and may end up with an episode of hanging all over Bubs wailing "He rejected me for another guy" in her roundabout and indiscreet way before she gets over her mad about not being in on the whole situation from the start.  Whether this breaks up the apartment is another story arc...

Alternative reading: Faye really has no problem at all with Claire’s revelation. And Claire’s smile is because she’s thinking “I did it again! I came out to someone and it went great! All my friends have been so cool about this!”

If Faye had a problem, either with Claire being trans or with Claire not telling her until now, I think she’d be more rather than less likely to react badly when she’s not feeling well. So I am taking Faye’s mellow reaction at face value.
