Good names for a cat

Quote from: Morituri
On an unrelated note, I have decided that "Schwa" would be a good name for a cat.

I put forward the name "Sosumi".

It largely depends on the cat's coloring, coat pattern, and personality.

A particularly vocal tuxedo cat that likes to "sing" might be called 'Steinway'.°

I would have to meet the cat.

I've basically established my male cats are going to be named after American Presidents.

The next one will be very lucky if they escape being called 'Milhouse.'

Chairman Meow is a good one.  I have thought in the past of naming a cat that, but didn't think to post it here.[1]  I'm glad that you did.

[1] I didn't know about the bilingual bonus there.  I only was using the English language joke.

My sister has a pair named "Corner" and "Wompus"

-- Which will probably be mystifying to non-USAmericans.

"Kitty-corner" is an expression that means, more or less, "on the opposite corner from" - describing the relationship of the right front foot of the couch to its left rear foot, or the relation of two businesses that face each other on the northeast, and southwest, corners of the same intersection.

"Catty-Wompus" is an expression that means more or less "In disarray" - you'd say your bed was catty-wompus the mattress was leaning up against the left bedpost at the head of the bed, with one of the sheets draped over it, the blanket is twisted up in a pile of the stuff that's normally stored under the bed, the foot of the bed is about a meter off the floor on account of the pile and the weight of the mattress on the head of it, and you can't find the pillows or bedspread until you get to the kitchen.

I have no idea how either of these phrases originated, but I'm almost sure they're uniquely American.

"Kitty-corner" is familar to me. In spite of that, I still frowned in confusion at both names until I'd read their explanations.

My favourite dictionary defined "cattywampus" to be a synonym of "catawampus" meaning askew, or a synonym of "cater-corner" meaning being of the opposite corner.

If it's an all black cat, panther is a common name.  Any name that ends in the long O sound, like "No!", is a bad idea from a training perspective.  And a friend of mine had a female dog named Millhouse - don't ask me why.  Another friend has a cat named Gershwin, but I don't think it had any musical taste.  He did, but not the cat...

Good choice. It’s a lot easier to refer to a specific cat that way.

Oh, I like that one.  The word's certainly stretchy enough to be used as an epithet for a living being, it just hasn't been used that way.

I had gotten as far as 'entropogenic' which is still pretty darn vague, and an adjective rather than an epithet.  And it suffers the usual problem of outer-edge vocabulary which would be that almost nobody knows what it means.

And maybe not English, but going into Classic mythology, "Eris" probably common enough.

All Hail Discordia!

Edit: If I were going to be slightly more esoteric, maybe "Kallisti".  Downside to that one, is that one might mistake it for a GoT reference.

Pumuckl? Why would anyone name their cat after a small, mischievous kobold with red hair who can become invisible?

... Nevermind.

You could name your cat Alley.

Discord (the original meaning, not a dig at the app).
Eris also works for those purposes.

Here's a list of deities associated with chaos. Though most of them are for primordial chaos. You might look into trickster figures for a name.

I recently learned that cats hear the 'gee' syllable better than most other sounds [enPR: jē] [IPA: /ˈdʒi/].

混沌 (Hůndůn - pron. Hwendwen) represents primordial chaos, and is sometimes referred to as the God of Chaos in Chinese mythology.

I have a cat in my house named Angelo, he is over 9 years old, I took him from my parents when I left for college. During all the time spent with him, I have many frequent memories and events that we experienced together. Now I have a girlfriend and because of the presence of a cat in the house, we often conflict. She cannot endure  the smell of cat litter that spreads throughout the house. She claims that her clothes are starting to smell like this. I decided to use the MOD EDIT: SPAMMER PUT PRODUCT LINK IN HERE AFTER POSTING to eliminate odors and clean up more efficiently, but my girlfriend still claims that the house has a disgusting smell. I think we will soon break up, because I will never give up Angelo.
