Mathematics only gets one entry because the list is already long enough and it's at the bottom of my learning list. Sorry if that offends any of you.

Photography is in a separate entry to 'visual arts' because I know too many people on either side of that that will be quite offended if I lumped the two together.

Graphic novels and webcomics count as both literature and visual arts.

My favorite bits of foreign slang I've learned so far in the last couple of weeks are 'plonker' (insult) and 'duguma' (a work in progress).
(Kind of bummed I can't include 'doska' (bored) in that since I've known it for years. Definitely applies since I've started my vacation, though.)

For me, I've been stuck working at home, so most of what I learned was related to BPM and user documentation.

Other than that, cooking; an exploration with my girlfriend is both of our cuisines. I also started drawing again, and have been learning about techniques, and planning projects for when I get to my forge again.

My favourite colour, culinarily, is brown.
Photography is in a separate entry to 'visual arts' because I know too many people on either side of that that will be quite offended if I lumped the two together.
That of me which might get offended by your opposite disregard of Mathematics' plurality is the part of me which is sufficiently minded to understand (and quite enjoy), without irreverence, such. Not that I don't feel

Dammit.
I forgot to include gardening and landscaping.

I suppose that'll have to fall under 'something else' for the time being.

Has there been a character who has grown more than Yay? They have gone from scary-spooky to concerned to funny over time and the more they appear the more I'm starting to see them as the embodiment of what AIs are all about: growth, change, personality, and different aspects of humanity without the filters due to parental and societal influence...

Sven might be the closest, but he is still a work in progress

I don't think that Yay is really used to having subconscious desires or not being fully in control of their reactions to the world around them. So, realising that a part of their brain decided to keep Hercules without telling their conscious processes is probably a bit of a shock.

Meanwhile, Hercules doesn't have a problem with anything going on right now, so long as he doesn't actually have to move any major muscle groups!

It certainly seems that way. Either that or Yay is just used to taking what they want.

I've made a tweak to the pole as I derped out and forgot not everybody would have spent most of college in the science building and would need a bit more context for 'Earth science' and the 'life sciences'.

EDIT: Gardening and landscaping would be a bit of both (like ecology is). Soil science, botany, physical geography, and biochemistry, with a pinch of climatology.

I put down "other" since my weekly schedule has not changed that much and I know way too much than is good for me with regard to most of the subjects listed.
Well shopping is one day a week now and the waiting in line makes me feel like I'm in eastern Europe before the wall came down and the red empire imploded.
The thin stocking of the shelves hearkens back to childhood memories from back then.
Also traffic is almost nonexistent, which is nice, except for the same [censored] who pull the same boneheaded manoeuvres they always did.
Cooking has been more creative what with more free time and limited resources. Thank be to dad and the chest freezer in the basement.

The only thing that has changed is that I am pretty much stuck at home in the evenings and play WAY more video games than is healthy.
So it seems that I have picked up quite a bit of lore from World of Warcraft.
Oh I have also been reading Manhua on the second screen while waiting in LFG and have quickly learned that the stories are plagiarist and AXE COP puts most to shame.

Has there been a character who has grown more than Yay?

Well, she's been around a lot longer, but my vote is for Tai, in the sense that she's now capable of turning herself "off" on occasion.  (Understand, she used to be easily my least favourite character.  Don't know who that might be now, but Millefeuille is working very hard at it.)

Recently learned 'banjaxed' and 'bamjaxed' (the latter because I misheard the former). Not sure if I can work either into conversation on this side of the pond, but both would make for a good kobold or goblin name in D&D.

So, Brun got up at 4 AM to go to the bathroom - then came back to fall asleep again on the same robot butt?   :-D
And the owner of said robot butt, while well aware that Brun had moved, made no attempt to get up in the meantime?

In which we see the problems that can be triggered if one doesn't fully understand contexts or multiple meanings. I suppose that, in the end, Brun feels that she owes Millifeulle at least some social interaction in exchange for having been a pillow overnight. This is especially if she has post-party amnesia and thinks something happened that didn't.

I find myself wondering exactly where Jeph is taking this. A comedy "We ran into each other at a party; next morning, I wrongly thought that I'd had sex with her and later realised that I like her" scenario isn't impossible at this point. The funny part of it would be Milli's role. I mean, she probably knows what's really happened and will likely be entertainingly puzzled why Brun seems to think they did something more intimate!

Or Brun's just being more literal minded about the phrasing of 'slept with'. She just woke up after all.

EDIT: No idea who this Vrun character is, this comic is about Brun and Millie.

This is one of those scenarios where Brun's way of thinking is definitely advantageous. My first reaction was that this is a funny misunderstanding, but she has seen a pattern, and on reflection, it really does fit this situation and is the polite thing to do.

I think that I feel a little for Brun here. The job I have is not my dream career and I'm fully aware in hindsight that I drifted off that path whilst I was still in secondary school. I'm satisfied with the work I do and feel it has significant and positive impact on my community but it still isn't the job that I think that I would have found most enjoyable to do.

That aside, I think that Brun shouldn't judge herself by others. Millifeulle might work on active photon dynamics but that's her. She isn't an optics researcher and probably wouldn't like it so that doesn't make Milli 'better' or 'more successful' than her.

Either that or the world leaders in QC opted for the 'no, that's bad' answer until they could get systems in place to support those who would be put out of work.

RE: Automation Apocalypse. If I recall correctly, the AIs are also painfully aware this is going to happen, and have been working to mitigate this themselves in addition to xenophobes blocking AI from taking up service industry jobs (See post-Robot Jail May looking for employment where she was originally going to buy pants).

Jeph has said that the reason humans can still get jobs is that a lot of the employed AIs take jobs like being toasters and others are lazy.

I don't think the AIs are really the concern in this case (Which I admit I stated in really vague terms). In the end, they're employees too. It's the machines that can do the job without being something you have to actually pay.

(fun fact, whether you agree on its implementation or not, universal basic income may very well be necessary when a huge amount of unskilled labor suddenly find out they're surplus to requirements)

I'd be curious to know when Jeph said that (as I always am whenever I hear something he has said about QC AI).

In part, because there seems to be an assumption here that AIs would be much better than humans at most jobs, which I don't think is the case, considering Momo's comment about most of their processing power being used to maintain sentience.

And in part, because this seems to fall for the universal basic income myth that people would just stop working when they get an income for doing nothing. I don't think that's the case.

Yes, funny you should mention that. I see both of these as very much complementary actions. If we as a society want to rid ourselves of dangerous of soul-destroyingly boring jobs, then a UBI means no-one needs to do them anymore and automation means they still get done.

Looks like Brun accidentally flicked a sore spot Millie didn't know she had.

I wish I could answer. All I remember is that it was years ago and I can't even remember where.

Unclear to me what Millefeuille is crying about. There's the scientist, co-worker guy who brought (carried her actually) to the Robot Union service shop when the invisible emu injured her #4080, and whom she promptly left behind and forgot about #4090. He was also there in the bar when she was being "drunk"  #4152 trying to get her to take it down a notch. He's obviously "there" for her.
