Favourite Strips
« on: 14 May 2020, 23:27 »

With all the talk about the way Questionable Content has been cruising recently, I felt nostalgic enough to trawl back through the archives and locate a few of my favourite strips. I'm sure I've missed at least a couple, but gere they are in numerical order.

Executioner's Blues
The Marten/Dora breakup sent shockwaves through the QC community, but for me, this strip is the one where it hit home. There was something about the sight of Hanners weeping that made it all very real.
(click to show/hide)

Heck of a View
The end of a touching storyline with a funny at the end which, rather than just being there to fill the need to end on a laugh, managed to make the ending that much more poignant. A nice thing to have pulled off.
(click to show/hide)

Coffee Talk
A turning point for Marten, as well as a defining moment for Claire.
(click to show/hide)

Auf Wiedersehen
May has always been a bit of a ratbag, but the fact that Dale found the good heart hiding within speaks volumes for his character.
(click to show/hide)

Disassembly
I know that most readers would have been happiest with their Faye/Bubbles ship coming in, but for me, this was the natural destination of Bubbles' introductory character arc and the moment that made me happiest.
(click to show/hide)

That is all. Please share your favourite strips. It'll be interesting to see.

There are many strips of which I like, or found highly amusing. (The "Music+Science=Sexy" strip was what actually drew me in to the comic originally.)

But, when it comes right down to it, this is the strip I like the most: 2316 - Crowdsourced

New member here, and I have 49 strips saved to disk, meaning they are my favourites. They start at 117, Dora telling Faye there will be precious little of her chastity left, and end at 3200, Skullmaster misspeaking about Skullmaster's dietary requirements. Wow, that's really out of date: I had no idea I was so far behind in my collection. In the last week or so I've been through the lot, again, taking notes, and I find I keep crying most at 3403, when Spookybot assures Bubbles she has people who care about her.

Which are more favourite? The purely funny ones like 951 Pintsize's wacky antics jumping the shark and 1298 Momo's introduction, where she can shoot live eels; or the touching studies of character, like Dora's sad look in 1586 when Hannelore is saying how she wanted to be normal, or at least a normal space princess on Mars?

2159 a happy Hannelore looking down on Earth - 2424 Dora apparently forgetting Mieville - 2490 Emily making beetle fingers - 3472 the gentle smile when Bubbles asks for help taking off her armour - 4032 May hugging Roko in gratitude.

The one where the Faye/Marten tension got resolved completely with a hair-tussle.

Faye and Bubbles's exchange of vows.

Bubbles shows she is a master of all forms of combat.
Also, Faye’s and Marten’s reactions…

Generally when there's something that shows how a character has grown in some way.  This falls in with Bubbles' de-armoring, but the first one that really got to me was Hanners cutting loose one cold winter's night...

Something about the look on her face.  "Unbridled Joy" is the term, I think.  Not something she comes by easily, if ever.

The current one is certainly high up on the list, for Bubbles' facial expressions if nothing else.  All the others, though, seem to focus around Hanners and/or Momo, both of whom seem suspiciously absent lately.

Today's (Monday, June 22nd, 2020) is definitely amongst them.

One of the other's I can think of off hand is the one where May finds out Momo considers her to be a friend. Along with Roko's introductory strips, Faye decking Corpsewitch, and Corpsewitch finding out her safety plan for Bubbles is gone.

Oh! Also the one where Elliot is imagining Hanners as a friendship fairy.

If I want a laugh, I always go back to #3525:
(click to show/hide)

It's just so utterly slapstick - Clinton, with a hilarious combination of keen perception and utter social ineptitude manages to wedge his foot firmly in his mouth, while a flustered Bubbles, on the back foot, resorts to low-to-mid-level violence to get her point across...

( Jeph's comments help too  :-D )

Sorry, I know I'm a bit late on this.

For humor, I'm a fan of 2550 (https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2550); however, I think the one that embodies the spirit of QC most effectively is 2554 (https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2554).

Not only is that comic hilarious, I think that the note at the bottom of this comic is oddly the funniest Jeph has ever written.

Exactly. And the fact that, in some governments, you might be breaking the law without knowing it. For example, I know there are people that consider the united states america (stet!) to be relatively free, but I read somewhere that there are 10,000 things you could be doing that are illegal (I think that article was about how you shouldn't ever talk to the police, because they'll find something you "confessed" to). If you haven't read and completely understood the entirety of the written laws of the government that might force itself onto you, you can't be sure that you're not breaking it's laws. And then there are governments that outlaw some things that affect only the "perpetrators" (prostitution, drugs, etc).

Well, it's not quite that simple.  For instance, the mis-use of drugs can lead to self-harm which imposes a cost on the society which then picks you up and cares for you (though admittedly some don't do all that much in that regard).

Not to mention the human trafficking concerns surrounding prostitution; or the way many of them are coerced into it, even without being transported across the continent.
