ESIV: Modding Oblivion
« on: 10 Jun 2020, 04:22 »

Hi All,
Yes - I'm late to the game, but I've never really played Oblivion on PC before...
I know there are like a million, billion ods out there - but I just want one that will make bookcases work like Skyrims.
ANd I found one (apparently)

BUt I can't seem to get ANY mods to work at all.
I followed this video...

...to the letter.
But nothing seems to work.

ANy modders out there know of a fool-proof (emphasis on the 'fool' :) )walk-through for applying pre-made mods?

Try using Vortex from Nexus Mods, should help install mods. You'll have to sign up to the site, but its free.

Thanks for that !

I went and got it...
Well... it's saying it's installed the mods.
The program's *data* list is showing them.
They just aren't doing anything when I go in game  :(

Have you downloaded the Oblivion Script Extender? Many mods go beyond the scripts in the game and requires the Script Extender to get them to work properly and within the game's engine.

If that doesn't work, this video does have some useful tips for modding earlier Bethesda games.

Cheers for the link!

I took the time to have another crawl through the Nexus site (And installed Vortex - nice move) and discovered what the problem was with the bookcases.
I got it working, only to find its not doing what it suggested.... so deleted it!  :)

Added a couple of things.. seemed fine.... then took the plunge and added a handful...
And now it doesn't work at all :) :) :)

Will be spending this evening disabling and then enabling them all one by one to find the problem.

(I KNEW this was gonna be a minefield... but I still bloody walked into it!)
Thanks for the help so far! :)
