Xbox One game recommendations
« on: 11 Jun 2020, 15:13 »

So, I just got an XBox 1, a Kinect, controllers, and a couple of games this morning.  Now, I haven't had a console since the PS2, so I'm totally out of my depth here.  Does anyone have any recommendations of good games to pick up for it?  I prefer RPGs, and also like some strategy games.  Note:  I hate first-person perspective, and will NOT buy any game that uses it.

Looking at the games on my shelf I'd say:
-Red Dead Redemption 2
-Control
-Okami
-Dragonball Fighterz
-Any of the newer Assassin's Creed games

Red Dead and Control are both 3rd person shooters, but you can shift to a first person mode if you want it. But the story in both are amazing. Okami is even more beautiful on the newer consoles. Dragonball is a great fighting game with some amazing graphics and a fairly easy pick up and play set up. The newer Assassin's Creed games are almost RPGs with the way the worlds are layed out.

Also, you should look into trying out Game Pass. It offers you a bunch of games for a monthly subscription, you can usually find a free month or 2 codes or get a lower price to check it out.
And here are some suggestions from Kotaku

The Bethseda Elder Scrolls stable are always worth a dip into.
Oblivion and (IIRC) Skyrim are 1st person but can easily be switched to 3rd...
The online Elder Scrolls IS 3rd person (which I don't prefer TBH) but I think it loses the heart of the earlier games.

Don't get Fallout 4.

It makes you think it's a good game. It isn't.

And don't get Fallout 76. You can take a sledgehammer to your Xbone and waste less money. Yes you heard me you actually make money back from life smashing your Xbone rather than wasting $60 on Fallout 76.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Mass Effect: Andromeda

 - both BioWare RPGs, both super cheap (like 10 bucks these days), gorgeous, well written, will keep you going for weeks. ( though theyre both sequels)

Assassin's Creed games make a good time sink

Read Dead Redemption 2 is stunning, visually. Great story, a little depressing. But honestly you can just sit and fish off a river bank for a couple hours and it's serene and relaxing as fuck.

Control is amazing, great story, aesthetics out the wazoo

The Outer Worlds was fantastic, great anti-capitalist themes, made by Obsidian (i.e. the people who used to make the good Fallout games), but it's first-person only.

Shadow of Mordor / Shadow of War if you wanna play a LOTR game (and don't mind the incredibly glaring breaks from canon)

I've also heard some great things about Greedfall - technically a small-budget game, but it has the energy of a big AAA title

Mass Effect: Andromeda

!!! HOW could I forget Mass Effect as recommendations!!!

EXCEPT for Andromeda which I found really tedious! :)
(No, honestly, I've done all the original Mass Effect Trilogy games multiple times.. still haven't finished Andromeda by a LONG way.)

Then sell it to me...
What are it's good points - what's better in Andromeda than in the first trilogy?
(ANd why doesn't the torturous/pointless "Radiation build up" in the car not drive you insane?)

(Not being facetious.. genuinely interested, mainly because I've heard no-one say such positive things about Andromeda!)
