would be odd having one of the richest heiresses in the world, working behind a coffee shop, asking you to donate to charity, to buy a new robot body, that her father is pretty much the patent holder/manufacturer of.
It's her money. Just because she has more than others, shouldn't mean she should have to pay more for things, or give it any to anyone. It also could be that persons don't notice that she has much money, because her lifestyle blends in with those that don't. (Do you have a source about Ellicott having there a monopoly or sufficiently large market share on robot bodies?)
There is something really wrong with the vocabulary database of Momo's conversation algorithm.
Yeah, she should get it checked out. One might be concerned about her synonymizer, if it couldn't find ``friend.''

Holy crap, did May actually act like a responsible adult? What next, is Marten going to develop some ambition? Did I accidently stumble into an alternate reality? But they don't have goatees, I am so confused.

My current money is on May doing five minutes of soul searching and realizing if feeling weird is preventing her from banging Sven in the new body, then it's not worth feeling weird about it.

That's not even, like, a shipping goggles prediction. I've just never seen a Gordion knot that May didn't want to hack with a machete.

I wasn't sure about this outcome initially, but I'm liking it more and more. May has obviously shown large amounts of character development, but no one has yet pointed out Sven. Despite me thinking that bringing up the money was initially tactless, he's shown considerable development in ending things amicably and drama free with a previous hookup.  He's clearly been working on developing himself in his own time, but I think overall that May and Sven have been positive influences on each other.

These sorts of character development and personal progress are what keep me coming back to this comic

Welp, that's Svey dead for now, I think. It will be a while before they feel comfortable enough around each other to get over this awkwardness, especially as Sven doesn't really trust his own thinking and behaviour and May really doesn't know how to do serious relationships.

Panel 5 tells the story. They really, really want to be together and are both afraid to be right now. You can see the sadness and longing in their expressions.

They'll probably run into each-other again at some point and suddenly find themselves hanging out all the time without realising it. That's how I see things progressing, anyway.

Fair enough. It seems to me that Sven has actually grown enough to recognize that he couldn't really keep a secret of that magnitude ("I had a major part in enabling you to have this new body") away from May - not without it influencing his attitude towards her. That sneaking, subconscious "you owe me" could always taint any interaction between them...
But I see that fifth panel regret too - maybe Svey will be re-floated some time in the future?

... but it will lack the thrill of boldly going where no man was meant to go.

EMT: (O.O) "I'm sorry, it's where?"
Sven: (-_-;)  "...Please ask how it happened."
May to Fay: "Can you get it out of their so they can reattach it already? You've been laughing for 5 minutes already."

Comic’s up. Those were different times.

My prediction for next time Sven & May meet¨:
Panel 1(top left): (both, and a bit awkward) Hi...
Panel 2(top right): they looking at each other somewhat uncertain
Panel 3(middle row): Smooching vigorously.
Panel 4(bottom row): morning after, in bed, and Sven with a clown nose.

My feeling when I first read this strip is a reminder that this is Sven with his remaining best friend in the cast. Hannelore and he went on a 'play date', if you remember and Hannelore became his confident by more recent strips. She was the one who helped him get his head together after his ill-timed confession to Faye. She was also the one who persuaded him to reconcile with Dora. So, in a lot of ways, this is like Dora or Tai going to Marten for relationship advice.

This makes me wonder if the new character arc for Sven is going to be addressing how much he's changed as a person and whether he really wants to be this new person at all. Using the comparison with Hannelore (who, I think, was originally written to be Marten's post-Faye romantic interest and would have been more like Dora turned out before Jeph suddenly realised he had a much better used for her) and how Dora has grown, I think Jeph is giving us a clue of what he already thinks the right conclusion would be.

I smoked for 25 years. Been off em now about 8. Even now, I get the cravings. Hell, I have literally DREAMED of smoking, to the point of waking up thinking I'm holding a cigarette.  And I'll probably have the cravings till I die.

Addiction is a hell of a thing.

I wouldn't say the new chassis is mellowing her out, but the lack of the old one is making her less irascible.

I've posted before that I think that, in her previous chassis, May was in the synthetic equivalent of constant pain. So, yes, I'd expect her mood to have improved considerably.

As a current smoker, it has the opposite effect on me.  Even though I hate the smell of the second-hand stuff, I still want to light up there and then.
