Is Renee one o the bakers? I thought she was just the sales clerk with Eliot and Jim did baking...why would a clerk be banned from other bakeries unless their owners are so insecure and jealous of Jim that they refuse to allow someone who's buying baked goods who works for the competition to buy any. It's money that they're kissing goodbye.

Then again, Jim is a great baker and has a connection to good coffee that the others lack...I guess they could have that against Secret Bakery

Renee and Elliot both bake. Padma I don’t know/can’t recall, but she and Faye had a semi-serious duel regarding muffins on one of their first meetings. In the Q.C.verse, loyalty to your baked goods provider is *serious business*.

That and there might be concern about recipe poaching. When McDonalds wanted the recipe for what became the chicken McNuggets, and the original chef wouldn’t sell, they sent researchers to St Louis to eat at the restaurant every day until they deciphered the recipe and the recipe for what became the bbq sauce.

Yuck.

Now did Elliot do that to Clinton intentionally, or was it a honest "it MIGHT be good" moment?

Gotta have your friends/family taste test before you start selling stuff.

That makes sense in a roundabout way...so it's really jealousy and a fierce rivalry at play.

That wouldn't really work with breads and baked goods, you'd need a spectral analyzer and a lot of money to get the percentages right alongside a lot of batches of baked goods to decipher the recipe...but the fear makes you do irrational things at times.

Gotta have your friends/family taste test before you start selling stuff.

That way you won't get sued if things go wrong ;)

I'm beginning to see a pattern here: Nothing good, for either of them, comes from Clinton sampling Elliot's 'experiments'. Best lay off of this in future, guys.

Gotta have your friends/family taste test before you start selling stuff.

That way you won't get sued if things go wrong ;)

Yeah, you'd  think that, wouldn't you? I'm of a slightly more cynical mindset but we won't go there.

Hhmmm, end of a baguette? Wouldn't that just be a mini petit pain?
Here we'd call it an overbaked pistolet.

Based on the drawing, I'd have called it an overbaked dinner roll.  But like Jeph, I also like the ends, so imagining what two of those with no spread would taste like?  Yeah, Clinton needs something to wash that mouthful down.

Just FYI... I was getting a broken image on today's comic, and upon going to right-click -> view image, I found out that for some crazy reason Malwarebytes is blocking the image file for today's comic. Was able to force it to display after that, but just wanted to let anyone else know who might have MWB and is wondering why the comic image isn't showing.

I wonder what Clinton means by his 'calculus'? Is he making a pro-con list for dating Elliot?

Daily baking would DEFINITELY be a pro on my list :)

Based on his conversation with Claire, it seems that he's still working toward self-acceptance. Seems like it would be at least a tiny bit easier to accept yourself if doing so means you get tasty bread all the time.

You could say Clinton is still fig-uring out this date-ing stuff.

Well, I suppose that I can think of shallower reasons for a relationship than 'he makes me tasty treats every day'. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the basis of many a chef's marriage, IRL!

Well, if nothing else, this game plan should help Clinton be less of a beanpole/stick figure after a few months.

Huh. Fig bread. I'll have to try that some time.

It does exist out there and in two versions: one like banana bread and one like soda or yeast bread...and it varies on how you chop the figs- sliced and placed on the top of the bread, finely minced so they blend into the bread, or smaller chunks that work as a contrast of texture and flavor

Yes/no. They're crusty breads but they're not baguette ends because they're too soft inside. Eliot's trying hard to make something that's not going to work unless he's trying to make them into mini soup bowls.

On the poll: I would walk in and make my order as normal, not noticing that anything was amiss.

Who knows, maybe that would give them a chance to reset and move on.
