Any specific kind?
I sort of lumped them all together.

Anpan is probably my favorite. Melonpan is pretty good, too. I haven't had monkey-bread in forever and might need to go out and buy some if I can find any.

Comic's up.

The Burrito Vendors' lines in panel 4 pretty much completely sum up their respective personalities. I vote we name the two on the left Ugh and OMG, at least until we find out their real names.

Something has to snap at this point. Elliot seems on the verge of a meltdown given that Clinton can't even touch him without triggering a strong reaction at this point!

The Burrito Vendors' lines in panel 4 pretty much completely sum up their respective personalities. I vote we name the two on the left Ugh and OMG, at least until we find out their real names.

Actually, I think that we can name them after the three Greek fates. Bubbly biogirl is Clotho (the Spinner, of ships in this case), Yesmini is Lachesis (the Allotter, of stylish shopping) and misanthropic synthgirl is Atropos (the Inflexible... in being disgusted). Bonus if Jeph has Yay run into them and uses those names.

I've just been calling the gal on the far left Sour Grape and the gal in the middle Sweetie.

What is the difference between 'sour dough' and 'sourdough'?

Oh!

Would the one person who voted 'sour dough' mind if I changed the option to 'rye' since I derped out and also put 'sourdough'?

He pretty much already did, unless I'm totally misinterpreting that comic (entirely possible). It's past the stage of "thinking about it" and more into the realm of self-acceptance.

Most of Jeph's comics are open to interpretation :) I saw that one more as Clinton establishing that he was attracted to Elliot, but that doesn't necessarily lead to wanting to date him. Hence the 'hanging out' that they did when Elliot was working.

So, the guy who doesn't perceive boundaries until it is far too late and a guy who freaks out at the merest hint that he's made a misstep. Jeph really, really should have thought a lot more about whether these guys were plausibly compatible before arbitrarily pairing them up.

That said, I do like the idea of seeing Elliot's reaction to Mrs A and Cosmo. I wonder if Cosmo will dislike him because he smells of cats on a canine-only detectable level? Or whether, as seems to be the case in the real world, Cosmo will be overjoyed to meet Hercules's human?

Yes, deep breaths Elliot! Go and talk to Hanners - she probably has a spare paper bag you can use  :-D

Of course she does. She has whole boxes of them. What, you think that she'd ever use one more than once? That would be terribly unhygienic!

True, however, they are also both open minded, willing to admit mistakes, willing to work on themselves, and very much working on growing and being a better themselves.
They are very much alike in that journey, which can create a feeling of kinship.

If they establish trust and practice open communication - which they have already been working on - I do see this working actually.
Upside, they will both get quite a bit of practice on working on their weak spots. They definitely would run into some boulders, especially in the beginning.
But in my experience, even if you are relatively bad at reading people, you can become quite attuned to your partner, and pick up their signals way sooner.
And in reverse, even if you are bad at sharing things, the level of trust you develop with your partner makes that it's much easier with them to share your boundaries.

I'm speaking somewhat from experience here, I can be a bit obtuse at moments, my partner doesn't open up quickly.
But by being supportive of him speaking up, always listening when he does, and occasionally checking in if everything is okay, that is totally compensated. I mean, I can really really work.

Elliot, please start getting help for anxiety asap! Your future self will thank you - I speak from experience.

Also thank god someone in the comic has finally floated the idea that Elliot's anxiety might benefit from professional help! I've been hoping one of his friends would do so for ages and ages.

I didn't really understand what anxiety was (in a mental health context) until I was in my mid-late twenties. I often wish I'd known earlier (and got help earlier) as looking back I can see ways in which anxiety was affecting my life from as young as primary school age. Better late than never I guess, but still... a diagnosis and help as a child - or even as a teenager - would have saved me so much pain over the first 3 decades of my life. So I may have shouted at the comic along the lines of "please just go get therapy already / please tell Elliot he'd benefit from getting therapy already" a couple of times these past few years.  :psyduck:

Something about this whole Elliot/Clinton thing has never sat right with me.

I'm feeling for Elliot, as Clinton just seems to be strolling through this, when I can only see him as "Geoff" from the BBC Series Monkey Dust:
A wannabe cottager, who can never quite go through with it, and finally, when he does, decides he doesn't like it, and just wants to cuddle.
And I don't see Elliot as being non-sexual. (but hey, who knows!?)

Cant find the last one, but this is indicative of Geoff as a whole.

Just a thing...

Errrh - afaics, it's perfectly possible for neurotypical folk to acquire an anxiety disorder? But now wiki tells me that OCD counts as neurodivergent on its own?

Makes little difference to me personally, bcs of the ADHD that kept the OCD company (I don't think I meet the clinical definition of OCD any more. The ADD otoh ...), but I've always thought of neurodivergence as conditions acquired during early brain development?

If only there were a nearby therapist who specialized in dealing with anxious 20-somethings!

Unfortunately, bringing Dr. Corrine back would represent the second-largest callback in all of QC, behind only Amanda, because we haven't seen her for over three thousand strips. Doesn't seem likely.

Elliot's from a different social circle, though. His interactions with Marten/Faye/Hannelore/et al are limited to running into them in the shop every once in a while, as well as the one time they were all at the bar together. I don't see any reason for Corrine not to see him.

Hello Willow and Iris. Lovely to make your acquaintance.

And sorry to tell you Willow, but you are not unbiased. You're shipping them so hard, I can practically see a line of sailors dancing a jig ;)

I'm surprised to see "brioche" in a poll about bread...

My vote would go to Kartoffelbrot, but it's not available in the poll. The topic of bread always make emerge my german roots. German bread with french cheese and wine...

'Other' should be one of the options.

As I understand it, brioche is a dessert bread.

Clinton is Faye's roommate's brother.  Clinton is the reason Elliot would be seeking help for anxiety.  Depending on how cautious Corrine is, it might be enough to say no.

It’s not. At least, not exclusively. It is well suited to desserts of course.

Just as an example, the current trend towards brioche burger buns.

Edit: In case you (traroth) are labouring under the misapprehension that brioche is cake because of the common English rendering of the famous phrase, “ Qu'ils mangent de la brioche” — let them eat cake — that’s a mistranslation. Brioche is a bread.

Okay, I think that I'm in trouble here. I can't actually retain today's strip. Beyond the ladies' names (how long I remember those is up for debate) literally nothing happened. I mean, in honesty, there are parallels to the introduction of three three library assistants, two of whom became short-lived primary characters before Jeph started running out of things to do with them but...

I think that everything about this strip, most importantly that Willow is obviously going to be a deus ex machina to corral Clinton into going the direction the author wants him to go in even though every strip so far really doesn't support that it is in-character, just confirms to me that the Clintelliot ship isn't for me. Literally, the only recent strip that I've liked was Brun, Dan and Renee's appearance. Before that, it was the bit with May at Union Robotics. Literally this entire continuing arc is a turn-off for me.

I think that I may have decided. Let's see what Thursday and Friday's strips are like first.
