I hope Clinton tells her to fuck right off!

Unfortunately, she's more likely to be an author mouthpiece there to explain to Clinton why it's okay for him to be in a relationship with Elliot despite his misgivings and nerves. This means that she is invested in a certain degree of authority by the nature of her purpose. Clinton and, possibly, Elliot will respond to her appropriately, no matter how bizarre it would be from an in-universe perspective.

I wouldn't be so harsh as to tell her to fuck off. But yes, in a sane world Clinton's reaction should be something to the tune of "I appreciate your concern, but this is my business and I don't want to talk to a stranger about this".

Which is of course why it won't happen.

What if Iris is the victim of a bad driver update and she’s actually expressing joyful enthusiasm?

Edit: also, Willow reminds me of someone but I can’t figure out who exactly… anyone else having that kind of deja vu?

We need to drive Willow to despair to see if that will cause Iris to perk up. It's clear that Willow is so chirpy because she's sucking all the cheer out of Iris.

Over on the salty subreddit, someone suggested that she's a redo of Marigold for the emerging Secret Bakery core cast (aka 'Core Cast v.2'). Specifically: White plus-size female with glasses, poor-to-non-existent social filter, yaoi addiction and a robot friend who is basically her own missing psychological half (the cynical sceptic to her enthusiastic optimist in this case). I have no idea how accurate that might be but it did make me raise my eyebrows and admit that it sounds plausible.

Hmmm, I don't know. If Jeph wanted Clinton and Elliot to be in a relationship that badly, he would've done that years ago. At the moment, every time they seem to be getting close, something happens to screw it up. I'm getting the feeling that Jeph has different plans for these two.

Elliot bakes bread + Roko really loves bread = match made in Heaven?

I'm not sure if that would be a good thing for Roko. Her synapses would blow from all the constant excitement :D

Sometimes, it’s quite easy to at least temporarily bond with a stranger, or virtual stranger like that.  I’ve had extremely deep interactions with people I barely knew, but we were the right people for one another at the right time (and for once, even my mind isn’t in the gutter).

When I first saw today's strip on Patreon yesterday, it annoyed me. I really thought that Jeph had literally put out an exposition page with Willow as the face of a text-to-speech app. On second reading (yes, this morning is only my second reading; the first and Jeph's really vicious "I hate my readership" tweet yesterday made me that mad), I can see that it's somewhat more subtle than that. I still think that this is just Jeph, having given up making Clinton go for a  relationship with Elliot in any way that seems in-character, has decided to insert a deus ex machina to persuade him to do so. However, I will grant that he succeeds in giving Willow some extra dimensions.

Most specifically, the dimension he gave her is that she's giving Clinton really mixed messages. I wonder if she's aware that her behaviour could be viewed as flirty to the point where she is more interested in Clinton than she is in Clinton being cute with Elliot. We'll see.

Anyone else get the feeling that Clinton is going to end up going out with Willow?

That would be a very unexpected but interesting twist. However, IMO, Jeph is so committed to Clintelliot  to annoy the part of his readership that he dislikes that he might ignore a more plausible and interesting alternative.

Once again, we'll see.

Since nobody else has posted, the last time we were in Hex-Mex (although I'm 90% sure we didn't get a name for it at the time) was here:

No, Willow, Iris and Yesmini's first appearance was much, much further back. It was when Emily created super-suits for the CoD staff. the three Fates were random customers who agreed that Dale looked super-hot in skin-tight spandex. Marigold somehow restrained the urge to slaughter all three of them for looking at her man in such a way.

I think that was half confusion that people might actually be envious of her and half proprietary pride that stayed her hand, rather than any altruistic feeling. If it happens again, I doubt she’d be so passive.

I'm surprised to see "brioche" in a poll about bread...

My vote would go to Kartoffelbrot, but it's not available in the poll. The topic of bread always make emerge my german roots. German bread with french cheese and wine...

'Other' should be one of the options.

As I understand it, brioche is a dessert bread.

It’s not. At least, not exclusively. It is well suited to desserts of course.

Just as an example, the current trend towards brioche burger buns.

Edit: In case you (traroth) are labouring under the misapprehension that brioche is cake because of the common English rendering of the famous phrase, “ Qu'ils mangent de la brioche” — let them eat cake — that’s a mistranslation. Brioche is a bread.

You know I'm french, right?

That was 3931. Willow's next appearance was in 3943, when Brün was on her way to the bank.

(yes, this morning is only my second reading; the first and Jeph's really vicious "I hate my readership" tweet yesterday made me that mad)

I agree, yes, Jeph does often have the tendency to state his opinion strongly and without filters. I disagree with your interpretation of the tweets: it felt less "all my readers are idiots and I don't care about them" and more "people, this is MY comic."

Also, take a moment to look at things from his point of view. He's spent seventeen years cultivating this passion project, learning to draw and write well nearly from the ground up. He quit his day job, risking his own comfort to focus on this comic full-time. He's built a beautiful, complete universe, incredible and relatable characters, and engaging storylines. He is known almost exclusively for his work on this specific comic. He spends hundreds of hours a year on it. He's created a paradise for thousands of readers over seventeen freaking years, which is literally longer than I've been alive. And then, everywhere he looks, in places he didn't create and has no influence in, there's hundreds of people telling him he's doing it wrong.

None of this is directed at you. I don't necessarily agree with how he put it. All I'm saying is, I kind of understand why he said what he did.

I'm not on Twitter, and thus I haven't read the tweet in question. All I know is that I love this comic, and if some of the storylines resonate less with me than others... That's just the way it is. Art cannot always please everyone, anytime. It's highly subjective and colored by own opinions and life experiences.

Personally, I still ship Elliot and Clinton. I think they could be good together, as long as they keep talking and are willing to take the other person into consideration. That said, I can also see why some of the other comic readers are bothered by it. So actually, either outcome would be fine with me. If Clinton and Elliot talk/think about it a bit more and then decide that pursuing the relationship isn't for them: great! That would be some nice character development too.

Sometimes, it’s quite easy to at least temporarily bond with a stranger, or virtual stranger like that.  I’ve had extremely deep interactions with people I barely knew, but we were the right people for one another at the right time (and for once, even my mind isn’t in the gutter).

This. After all, isn't that what a psychiatrist, counsellor, or even your stereotypical barman is for? That is, unburdening yourself (at least temporarily) on another person?

Comic is here.

Clinton's being pretty passive-aggressive, which we don't usually see from him. I wonder how much of that has to do with his discomfort with the current situation.

I'm not sure I'd call Iris blue.  And why are there two anime-bots chasing a duck in the background?

A!

Also, maybe Iris is a Fugate descendant and added the cosmetic seam because she was self conscious and it was cheaper than prescription grade methylene blue.

Judging by some of the background characters, I'm guessing Jeph is a fan of Hololive En.

Are you sure it's a rabbit hole you're prepared to go down?

Iris is blue-gray, I'd call that blue.

I noticed the background, and assumed that I was missing some obscure knowledge to properly identify the duck-chasers :)
