A new week, a new WCDT.

No poll. I could think of a couple, but couldn't come up with decent poll options.

RE. the new comic.

Oh dear, Hanners is channeling her mother again! Makes me wonder if Jeph is gearing up for a storyline where Hannelore confronts her similarities to her mom.

The BIG difference between Hanners and her Mom is Mon'd hire someone to do the powerpoint presentation.

Again, the best poll I could come up with was with the weather. I hope it's leagues better for everyone everywhere.

If you or anyone you know lives in Texas and are dealing with price gouging, text PJENDN to 50409 to send a prewritten letter to your representatives about price gouging.

Hmm...what could she do to scare the begazes out of a librarian? Maybe de-alphabetize books? renumber the stacks without copying the new locations? Mess with the catalogue so it shows books available that are actually checked out?

On second thought, those are easily done and would make any librarian quake in their boots!

How about putting a book in the wrong place, and then put it an interlibrary loan for it?

I think that we've discussed before the way that Hannelore has definitely internalised a significant echo of her mother's problem-solving strategy without really being aware of it. I think it's a case of: "If you've only ever seen your parents using a hammer to fix stuff, you'll assume that every problem needs a hammer to fix". If not in actual methodology, at least in mindset.

Like others, I find myself wondering precisely what Hannelore's presentation would be about. One option that comes to mind: "Why Hiring Claire Augustus Has A Coincidental Timing With a Reduction in Mortgage Foreclosures for Senior Staff." Naturally, Hannelore wouldn't understand why this could be regarded as 'threatening'.

Maybe she can recall Tilly to do a song and dance number with Winslow to make it a little less intimidating?

Hanners not exhibiting that "w h a t" response to Marten's reply feels very out of character for her.  But then, maybe she changed enough during her wanderjahr...

New comic.

Claire seems to have gone off 'foot pictures'. She was considering it for a while though, I wonder what changed her mind. Probably just talked to Pintsize too much.

I'm not so sure - the structure of these comics is generally such that if a character denies something, even fervently, in one strip, they are usually at least considering the possibility by the very next strip in which they appear.

That and I don't believe Jeph would have brought back a joke from a 3-comic arc just to abandon it all over again.

My nearest point of comparison for this is when Marigold was griping about her looks compared to the rest of the girls in her guild, then Angus showed her that they were only using clever angles and possibly a bit of airbrushing to make themselves seem prettier than her... so Marigold's very next step was to start taking flattering pictures of herself in the same vein.

Claire seems to be in that weird stage of human behaviour where they go somewhere online where they hate to be just to remind herself just how much she hates it. In the process, she's actually developed quite an understanding of the site's user community. Of course, she can't be as refined in her understanding of them or about the product on offer as Pintsize but I retain my personal hypothesis that he rents out processor space in his head to act as an auto-moderator for posts on sites like that.

That said, Claire raises a broader point about on-line artistic activity. Yes, you can get a huge boost from positive feedback. Then there is the negative feedback and I think that Claire is indicating that, with her self-esteem issues, that's not something  that she wants or needs in her life, no matter how bad her financial situation.

So, anyone else think that this is the start of Jeph retelling the story of the birth of Questionable Content through Claire and her feet? It would be sad if he considers his work to be equivalent to low-effort fetish photography!

My level of tiredness can usually be parsed by the extent to which I'm abusing the poor letter 'j' (as well as missing particles and such).

At a particularly bad moment, "jow jas jour daj been, Jean?" (how has your day been, Sean?) is very much a possible thing for me to type.

I read it as the emotion you feel when you love and support a dear friend and want to make them feel it despite insurmountable physical distance. Frustrated hearts pouring out everywhere.

I really don't know what Hannelore is doing. I know what she thinks she's doing but I'm not sure what she's really doing. That said, I've got the feeling that a sci-fi scan would show that the tea isn't really tea anymore. Never forget whose daughter Hanners is and the feeling that I've long had that she might not be entirely the result of random genetic mixing.

When I first saw this strip on Patreon, the Warsie that I am, I started trying to think of a suitable Yoda quote! Probably because of the title telling Hannelore not to Force it!

At the rate Hanners is going, that cup of tea will be heated up in 6 years, 241 days, 17 hours.

Oh, I suspect that it will be a lot quicker than that. Also questions may be raised about its precise molecular structure. Can you have ionised tea?

EDIT

Here's the thing: Coffee of Doom at least in part is a fast food shop. They have some sit-down customers but I suspect the majority want in, their beverage in hand and then out. Bearing this in mind, bagged teas make sense. FWIW, I'm British and we have bagged teas from take-out shops here too, especially the concessions at train stations and the like.

In any case, I it's been implied before that Hannelore blends and bags her own teas. Maybe it started out as a hobby but it's made her quite the hit with the synthetics in the area.

I've been to America twice for two-week periods, going both times with co-workers who went more often and I could not find a decent cup of tea anywhere. And the 'hot water onto a bag' style of tea is not exactly a rare art in the UK, even in coffee shops, but nope.
