Yeah, I thought I had more anime tea puns than this. I'll probably think up more Tuesday or Wednesday. Oh well.
[I don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of tea names or DBZ attack names. The 6th option is a Trigun reference.]
Yes, 7 is quite the stretch.

New comic.

Wait a sec, is Mrs Augustus getting younger? She's the spitting image of Claire at the moment (ya know, minus the freckles). I could've sworn she had some wrinkles in earlier comics...

**checks archives**

Nope, can't really see any in previous drawings. Huh.

The characters seem to go through a "de-ageing" at times.  About a year or so ago everyone suddenly looked like they'd gotten 10 years younger.

Also, why would you put groceries on the floor when there's a dog in the house?  That's just asking for trouble.

I'm sort of in two minds here. Firstly, a certain someone needs to learn that she's only allowed to eat her humans' food if it's offered to her. So, bad dog!

On the other hand, Clinton seems to have volunteered his mother to do a meal for him and Elliot instead of, for example, waiting until she invites him over. At the very least that seems a touch entitled. So, Cosmo has got Mrs A out of that particular chore. So, good dog!

Wait a sec, is Mrs Augustus getting younger? She's the spitting image of Claire at the moment (ya know, minus the freckles). I could've sworn she had some wrinkles in earlier comics...

Yeah, Jeph left out the smile wrinkles at the side of her mouth.

I find it really depends on the dog. Some breeds are, of course a lot more greedy than others - I had a labrador that would simply scarf down anything remotely edible within reach, And even things that really aren't, up to and including homework, and a watch. My parents' border collie, on the other hand, knows to leave the groceries alone. Though, sometimes, she'll very carefully sneak up on the meat; but then, she edges closer so slowly, they usually notice before she gets to it. Hold a biscuit too long, though, and she'll assume you're offering it to her.

Well, yeah, if it’s in your hand and you haven’t eaten it already you must be giving it to her. No other rational explanation exists.

Her lack of smile lines and crowsfeet has already been pointed out.

As for the dog? She's just not used to having a dog yet and she's still learning.
One of my housemates grew up in California, so he's not used to the whole leave-the-sink-cabinets-open-in-winter thing. I wound up just removing one of the doors from the one under our kitchen sink.

Labs are notorious for that.  The pit-bull mix I live with will happily sniff all of the bags, but won’t attack the contents if not offered by a human.

Comic's up.

Clinton, stop putting your mother through the wringer. Get your *ss into gear and buy some new groceries! Surely you can cook as well? Otherwise, raid the deli section, buy some breads, roast chicken, and salads, and turn it into a buffet dinner.

I feel like this strip is a setup for something. I'm trying to think of what it could be a setup for, but nothing really comes to mind. There aren't any characters who work at grocery stores or restaurants, right?

I'm increasingly wondering if Jeph is planning a weird "Mrs Augustus aged in reverse" arc where, as the other characters mature towards conventional adulthood, Mrs A goes the other direction to a lifestyle that would not be strange to college students - Living on take-outs, a long string of emotionally-meaningless hook-ups and partying all night with drugs and rock & roll. He's doing this either as a memorial to his own lost youth or to ask a question: "This is okay in college. Why does everyone automatically think that you're not allowed to do it if you're older than 30 years?"

Oh, yeah, and there is also a very clear in-universe message that she does not suffer from empty nest syndrome and she is rather enjoying her new 'unhealthy' lifestyle. Apart from with Cosmo. Nothing is more important to her than Cosmo living in luxury!

Mrs A impresses me with how polite she is and how good she is at letting Clinton down gently. I mean, yes, his intentions are good and motivated by his love for her; I acknowledge that and so does she. However, she's living a life that she enjoys and she's trying to point that out to him and shut down any possibility of him visiting her more often and impacting on her enjoyment of life!

Does Chad really qualify as a "gentleman?" I'm dubious.

Not just Chad. To me, it's implied that she's had lots of hook-ups with different people.

As a widower, I can totally relate with this. Even though my kids are not yet adults and therefore still at home, the loneliness gets to you. And while it's not paralyzing, it is - as Mrs. A says - quite bittersweet.

We live in a mobile home, so it's doubly important as the skirting solely acts as a wind-break. We also have to drip one ofthe faucets to prevent the line from freezing. All of which was super important with how damned cold it got this February. We had record-breaking -37.78°C (-36°F) windchill one night. It was pretty consistently around or below -17.78°C (0°F) for two weeks.

There are days when Yay wishes that they didn't understand humans so well. Or that they could restrain their need to clear up the few remaining uncertainties. Because doing so only ever seems to make things worse for their friends.

I'm pretty sure that Mrs A won't care whatever Elliot wears as he pretty much fits into her 'attractive male' stereotype. If Clinton isn't clear enough on his own intentions from early enough, this could easily degenerate into a difficult situation with her being clearer with her attraction than her son is currently able to be.

Or the other awkward situation where she pulls Clinton int the kitchen for a chat about how cute Elliot is (being) and Elliot overhears them somehow. More so if she tries to “motivate” Clinton by indicating that she’ll make a move if he isn’t interested…

I'm not sure but I think that Clinton is trying to think of 'date venues that aren't too formal and therefore too obvious that this is a date'. "Bring my new friend to meet the parents" fits into this in his head at least.

He might have already thought of going there on his own.  And considering that Ms. Augustus seems to have a great relationship with her kids, if everything went sideways and Elliot ran away screaming, at least he'd have someone right there to talk it out with.

"Meet the parents" is a standard milestone in a relationship. Possibly that's all there is to it.

It started with 'come and meet my mother's strange dog', which then morphed into 'and you might as well come for dinner then'.

It started with 'come and meet my mother's strange dog', which then morphed into 'and you might as well come for dinner then'.

...And quickly shifted right to "well, you can still meet the dog, at least."

Comic's up.

Or perhaps an egg one might find in your apartment one day, mysteriously always within two feet of your cat...

Confectionary metaphors are delicious!

Yay wouldn't be just one wasp, though. They would be an entire swarm, with a hive mind. Kinda like Ygramul from The Neverending Story.

*looks at poll results*
*frowns*

Guess I should explain those, then.

Chá-mehameha < kamehameha: Goku's signature move
Tea blast thrust < ki blast thrust (don't know the user)
Shin tea ko ho < Shin ki ko ho: Tien Shinhan's "tri-beam blast"
Continuous Chai Chai Missile < Continuous die die missile (again, don't know the user)
Love and Teas < Love and peace!: Vash the Stampede, Trigun

Yeah, Elliot would have a hard time intimidating anyone outside of his work environment.

Every time I see this particular robot's name in the comic my brain hears CJ saying "The yay leaving from San Fierro, right?" and it drives me batty.

It suddenly occurred to me that it's sort of a natural environment for Yay to be relaxing and stroking a flurry white cat. All that is missing is the Neru suit, diamond collar and a circular table around which are people who, individually, are all fantastically dangerous but are also terrified of them. However, enough of SPECTR/Evil Genius comparisons because I'm not entirely sure that it entirely applies to Yay anymore!

The way that Elliot interacts with Yay really does strike me as showing that Elliot needs to spend more time just being with Clinton before either of them make final decisions. Right now, Elliot is so nervous about being with Clinton in any formal setting that he couldn't possibly be relaxed or, more important, happy.

Wait... are Yay and Elliot flirting? :-o
