What do you count as "awkwardness or drama?" Faye/Bubbles and Dora/Tai have both been healthy, stable, and free of major conflict.

There's nothing wrong with being attracted to your son's (potential boy) friend.

Acting on that attraction, on the other hand, would be VERY BAD INDEED.

What do you count as "awkwardness or drama?" Faye/Bubbles and Dora/Tai have both been healthy, stable, and free of major conflict.

Likewise Steve/Cosette, Dale/Marigold, Jim/Veronica, Tilly/Station (as far as we know). Actually, most of the relationships in the comic tend to be pretty stable once they get settled in.

Actually, most of the relationships in the comic tend to be pretty stable once they get settled in.

And if you've ever had a relationship that DIDN'T start with awkwardness and drama... well shit I know I don't have THAT Much experience, but as far as I can tell, you've been really lucky. They all seem to start with a dose of that somewhere.

hmm... memory's got holes in it, but points to Clinton not exactly telling her this is a pseudo-date. this'll be fun!

...Dora/Tai yes. Faye/Bubbles? They just had a legitimate conflict with Faye's mouth not too long ago.

Marten/Claire is a better example, those two haven't had a conflict unless you count her anxiety over not getting a job yet as a conflict.

...well, that was unexpected. I mean, she's not dead so attraction to a hot guy is going to happen. But still, that was unexpected!

If Clinton and him don't workout, at least he has a fallback now ;)

Was thinking the same thing - I can imagine all sorts of misunderstanding leading from this

....And poor, sweet, I-must-try-and-please-everyone, marshmallow Elliot caught in the middle!
Awww, the poor guy's really gonna need a hug after this.

They said no major conflict. All relationships have some conflict, that's just inevitable when two or more people interact for a extended period of time.

Totally different hair styles.  Aurelia has a nice do and Claire just lets hers run wild.

Actually, is that Clinton or Claire in the background picture?

For me, it's their mannerisms and how they hold themselves.

That counts as a major one considering it was about their business and Faye was legitimately afraid of what Bubbles would do if she was flippant again...it counts. When it could potentially destroy something as important as a business it counts.

As I've already said at some length, Elliot pretty much ticks all of Aurellia's 'attractive male' boxes to the point where he's leaving her flustered just by being around her.

Several ideas jump into my mind but the most obvious one is a tabloid headline (one that I have seen IRL more than once): "My boyfriend is now my stepfather!" I doubt that it will happen but my guess about what will happen is that Aurelia won't be able to govern her subconscious reactions and will spend the entire evening spontaneously flirting with Elliot and then immediately trying to stop herself and apologise. Elliot, being Elliot, won't quite know what's going on. However, if Clinton is too hesitant, then Elliot may respond to the actual clear messages rather than the equivocal hints.

"...son's friend."

hmm... memory's got holes in it, but points to Clinton not exactly telling her this is a pseudo-date. this'll be fun!

FWIW, Clinton's description of Elliot is pretty factual as neither he nor Elliot have decided that things will definitely go further than that. However, yeah, maybe he should have gone into a little more detail about long-term aspirations here.

I am all for it. Although it means we will likely never see either character again, as hetero relationships and the characters in them tend to be background fodder as soon as they happen. At least for the past couple of years, anyway.

I don't know if this is one of BenRG's perpendicular theories. I thought that was where this arc was going too (though maybe not quite as far as he took it). I wonder if this is going to be a "Clinton, decide what you want and go for it before life takes it from you" story.

It has happened before that Elliot found himself completely unable to relate to something Clinton said because Clinton spends arguably too much time on the internet. (Note: in comic time, that was YESTERDAY whatever day we were watching before the current day started.)

It took me like two minutes to remember what a vore is, unfortunately. From the '90s. At least I'm pretty sure. EDIT yep, askjeevesed it, that's it. I remember it being an arachnid fetish, though.

Suffice it to say it's one of those internet things that prompts the suggestion to have better and more specific filters on any sort of art or "art" site than just 'allow adult content'. Not that there aren't some very inconsiderate individuals who refuse to use filter tag systems, which is why I'd argue that a secondary filter measure should be implemented to where specific words in the general tags get the piece auto-filtered.

I do hope that Clinton finds himself wondering why he's talking about these things. I do hope that Elliot finds himself wondering why Clinton is talking about these things. If there were any proof needed that Clinton really doesn't know how to hold a conversation with Elliot about... well... basically anything without it turning bad, this is it. If nothing else, talking about tapeworms an their ilk before dinner isn't good general etiquette!

I said this on Patreon yesterday and I'll say it now: Elliot - Just run. This guy probably isn't a good catch.

The point I'm making is: Why raise this issue in the first place? It's obvious that Elliot was talking about cute, huggable furfriends, not the decidedly nightmare fuel end of the animal kingdom. So why mention them? It's almost as if Clinton was trying to discomfort or denigrate Elliot for his statement that he likes all kinds of animals. That isn't a good thing.

Next time you're in Tokyo, head to the Tokyo Parasite Museum. It's small but fascinating. Also free. The best bit is the interactive model of an 8.8m tapeworm (the actual length of a tapeworm someone was once infected by). There's even a little gift shop in the back. You'll love it, bring a date.

P.S. I posted that link because it was literally the first result in a google search I made, but now I'm reading it and I found this quote:

Quote
They also told us some random trivia. Like, for example, the most common "customers" they get are single women, followed by young couples on dates.

See! 8-)

P.P.S. Fun fact/confession: I've been there TWICE.

I totally see this more as just an expression of Clinton's overall awkwardness.  And I like that Eliot isn't fazed by it or reading too much into it.  It actually speaks to real potential for the two of them, as long as Clinton can continue on his journey of becoming more open and vulnerable about his feelings and reactions.
The point I'm making is: Why raise this issue in the first place?
Because Clinton has a crazy pinball machine mind and that's where it bounced.  And since he's not figured out the "filter thing" yet, strange topics will pop out.

Seriously? How are you catastrophizing this? There is nothing unusual about this conversation at all. It's like you are looking for something to rag on.

I don't know, at least they've established that they both know something about parasitic worms.

Speaking as a nerd, it is the way of my people to test ideas to destruction and be over-literal. So when Elliott said "animals", of course Clinton searched the whole animal kingdom for extreme examples.

As to your point about whether they have a future together, I'm not betting on their compatibility. But we'll find out.

"...son's friend."

hmm... memory's got holes in it, but points to Clinton not exactly telling her this is a pseudo-date. this'll be fun!

That's what I thought. Wonder if she's Oblivious Mom or Way Too Perceptive Mom?

Just imagine a nice popcorn.gif here...

Based purely on what I know about Jeph's writing, and not at all on recent comics, my money is on Way Too Perceptive Mom. Because I think Jeph is heavily invested in framing her as The Cool Mom.

I can say categorically that if someone took my "I love all kinds of animals" and went to parasitic worms, my response would be something like "they're cool, but I do have to make an exception for ants" and I would think more highly of the date, rather than less.  Because we have the fundamental compatibility of "Statement that has obvious limits to most people" and completely ignoring the limits to investigate the weird cases.

I would assume parasitic wasps on ants at the least? Then trying to think of the actual parasite.  Like the one that you ingest and it eventually gets out of your eyeballs? I had an interesting biology teacher in high school, ok?
