Delightful Articles
« on: 10 Mar 2021, 22:31 »

I find myself, often, wanting to share an article, or a few, that not about anything very serious or urgent, but that was a delight to read---maybe informative on some bigger topic, but over-all, something well written, that's interesting to think about. Something like Lenore Skenazy's 2021-03-08 Reason magazine article about a Japanese app that maps the popularity of children's' public play areas---marketed to those who'd like to avoid the noisy neighborhoods, but useful for families to plan towards child-friendlier locales. For context: Japan is known for trusting it's children to roam free, as early as possible, as well as trusting it's parents, to know when it's appropriate to start.

I think this forum has needed a thread like this to be fair. Is it overlapping too much with the Good News! thread, I ask the court?

I don’t think so, since this would permit more “fluff” than I think that the “Good News” would.

I agree with hedgie. I was thinking more about shorter literature, of a nonfictional tendency, that are primarily fun to read, whether or not they are presenting News, whether or not that news is Good. I had thought, first, of the Headlines thread, but there, is a semblance of greater importance. Here, that's a tertiary concern: ENJOY

A stuntman in Los Angeles sat in a pool of bean dip to support a local restaurant.

The stuntman, Hunter Ray Barker, performed the Human Bean Dip to promote Los Toros Mexican Restaurant, located in Chatsworth (northwest of LA).

They made a Lego figurine of my prime minister for International Women's Day.

This is both for her being the youngest PM in New Zealand since 1856, and for her handling of the covid-19 response.
