I know that there are vast numbers of reasons but 'being a parent' or seeming appealing to people in order to become one definitely influence how many fucks a lot of people give.

Jeph is very good at introducing new and beautifully weird new plot elements. from re-reading, although i am about two years out from where we are now, it seems like it has been a while since a new story for Marigold and Dale! of course, this has been going on for a while based on the subscriber amount mentioned by Aurelia!!

For some reason, I think that this is all going to go horribly wrong in a basically unintentionally comedic way. Has Clinton ever had a fangirl gush at him? If not, how will he handle it this time?

Also: Of course, Marigold has her own weird vtube persona. However, something tells me that 'Burger Oni' might bring with her their own incorrect assumptions and expectations that Marigold can't live up to. Also, I'm trying to work out what's happening in panel 4. My best guess is that Marigold and Dale like to do things with her 'in character'.

It makes sense, because in that aspect, the comic was derivating further and further from our world, in which everybody is constantly online, so I suspect JJ wanted to kind of catch up.

I'll admit, this comic took me several reads to parce, and I'm still unclear on some of it. What I think is happening:

Aurelia and Clinton are streaming Mario or something while high.
Marigold is watching the stream and thinks Clinton is cute.
I'm not entirely sure what panel 4 is meant to say, but I think it may be just foreshadowing for the reveal that Marigold is BurgerOni?
Marigold asks Dale to make the commenters behave while she streams.
And finally, BurgerOni asks if Aurelia and Clinton want to... meet over a Discord call? Or something?

Marigold and Dale have been online gaming turbo nerds since their very beginning. Their whole original interaction was a silly feud over being on opposite player factions in WoW.

Clinton doesn’t count because he’s been roped into this by his mom, and Aurelia’s whole bit for quite a while has been a midlife crisis/second teenagerdom.

Who else are you talking about that qualifies as “all these” exactly?

It's fairly simple. Marigold and Clinton meet at the Horrible Revelation to talk about just how weird the vtuber scene is. For purely psychotropic reasons, Clinton is more relaxed than usual and really has a good time with Marigold. Elliot sees them and, being Elliot, assumes that Clinton has met his One True Love (which comes as news to Clinton and Marigold later on).

Much angst, misunderstanding and drama ensues.

It's weird too because Twitch got to the level of where it would be conceivable that someone other than a huge gamer nerd would have heard of it because of the pandemic, which did not befall the QC-verse. Pretty much everyone these days is far more online than they were 13 months ago.

I know it would be sort of weird in a different way to show them all dealing with the pandemic and have them just in their apartments talking to each other on Zoom or something, but the fact is the pandemic has drastically altered the world as we know it and will have a permanent impact on society. QC in its attempt to remain contemporary will therefore inevitably be influenced by the pandemic, but without a pandemic actually occurring. Sort of strange.

Panels 3/4 I see as Dale wondering what vtubers look like IRL and Marigold saying he knows that about at least one - not necessarily anything about doing things in character. I think the (eyebrow waggle, smirk coquettishly) "you know what I look like" has an unspoken "in more ways than others".

I'd like to think of it less as sudden and more as the characters continuing their lives outside of the panels; we just were focused on different glimpses of other elements of their continuous lives, and now we have the leisure to focus on this fragment of it.

I'm not sure if Jeph could more clearly signal about the content for the following few weeks. What he's saying is that: Self-sabotage is on the way. Mistakes are going to be made. Hilarity will ensue. Hard lessons will be learned.

If I also may add, at the very least, Marigold and Clinton are going to wonder how having a beer with a new friend can be interpreted as being an 'OTP'. However, they may rightly wish to blame over-exposure to cheap romcoms and shounen animé for a romantic mind. Also, in Elliot's case, a reflexive expectation that things will go wrong that possibly indicates therapy is required.

I think it's more likely that what's coming is one of QC's classic anxiety-defusing friend conversations, which are a favorite part of the comic for me. Especially if it involves more cuteness from Elliot's thoughts!
