Might be a bit too tired to come up with a sensible poll, so here's this nonsense. Hopefully I'm not stepping on Jeph's toes for Nelson backstory.

I have an alternate poll regarding comfy sheets if this one is too silly.

Conducting the funeral for a defendent you represented would be nowhere near as uncomfortable as conducting a funeral for someone killed by a defendent you had represented.

"See ya later, Emmett", Jeph says. Anyone want to bet on how many months it will be before we see them again? IIRC, Dan came back a couple of times in the background fairly quickly after his introductory arc before he, Renee and Brun were seemingly seen off at the bus station.

That aside, I'm afraid that Bubbles is right about how obvious he and Sam are (yes, I think it's mutual although Sam is better at hiding it). I'm just wondering how long it's going to be until everyone just reflexively talks about 'Sam and Emmett' as if where one is the other will inevitably be!

I was operating under the assumption that Nelson was defending someone who was innocent, but good point.

EDIT: I switched to the backup poll because of both how depressing that thought is (I'm sure it was already lingering in the back of my mind) and because I couldn't think of a lawyer's case that corresponded to a christening other than a custody battle. Which is also super depressing.

We've seen somewhere - I don't have the time to find it now - that Roko has a drawer full of kitchen utensils, even though she technically has no need for them. Presumably this is adding to her collection.

The utensils were mentioned here: https://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=3968

But Roko does buy bread so I suspect that she'd actually use a bread knife, unlike the other utensils.

Why, that sounds good - until you actually think about it.

Wild animals live under many constrictions and dangers. They dont really have that much of a choice about anything, constantly having to go around looking for food, avoiding dangers, looking for a mate, etc.

Yeah, I didn't put "bread knife" together with "bread fetish" until it was mentioned above.

Kind of a relief, really. She's just planning to have her way with a few oh-so-moist slices off a nice plump loaf later on.

For comic #4718...

1. Subtle(r) Fetish Detailing ~ (panel 02) I liked the Roko's blush on slicing her bread loaf.

2. Precision Fetish? ~ (panel 03) Interesting that Roko is precision-inspecting her bread-slicing.  Wonder if that is a part of Roko's fetish, or just a natural desire for precision work on Roko's part?

3. That Fresh Bread Smell? ~ I may have missed (&/or forgotten), but does Roko also indulge her fetish like other robots with scent-stimulation?  (i.e.: robots with coffee/teas).

4. Yay's New Look ~ Also like Yay's new look, very reminscient of DC/Vertigo Comics' Death of the Endless, a character I have enjoyed a lot across the years, like Questionable Content.  ;)

So, better off having leverage. Being "nice" to employers may be good or bad, depending on the size of the company. If it's a huge company, they'll do whatever they can to increase their profit. No matter what it'll cost to their work force.

Yes and no.  I've generally had better work environments with bigger operations; since they have more assets to pursue, in my experience, they have been more careful to do everything by the book.  Of course, there's also the point where a company is too big to care, and just takes money for the fines/settlements out of the petty cash drawer, but I've never worked for anywhere *that* big.

I dunno.  That knife appears to be serrated, and there's no excuse for using those, since they'll tear apart most breads.  Assuming the blade is long enough, a properly sharp knife makes a clean cut every time.

Really? In my experience, serrated knives are much more appropriate for cutting bread than knives with a sharp-but-smooth edge.

In fact, Googling "bread knife", most images that show up seem to be knives like this.

Most people don't keep their knives properly sharp, so will use the serrated bread knife.  I just tend to use my basic chef's knife for everything that doesn't warrant a specialised blade.  But I do sharpen the thing every time it makes a trip through the dishwasher, usually to the point where I can shave with it.

Edit:  It's probably more accurate to say that I hone it at that point.  It rarely needs extra sharpening.

I've had no problem using serrated blades on freshly baked bread, provided that the knife is nice and sharp. I find that non-serrated blades tend to have trouble getting through the crust.

i love the perhaps intentional Mary Worth energy from yesterday and today's entries :) :)

i remember Jeph mentioning it on twitter every now and then!!
Those of us who grew up reading the comics page, and feeling puzzled by what Mary Worth was supposed to be, but still reading it each day along with the others!! There was a second soap opera comic too whose name is not registering currently!!  And there was also Mark Trail!!!  Realistically rendered people in at times charmingly at other times puzzlingly milquetoast situations , which, this situation in QC is not, but the idea of two character closeups having an important discussion about future matters quickly sent my memory to Mary Worth!!

In that case, might I recommend Jackie Wolenhaus's webcomic 'Between Failures'? Like Shannon K Garrity and Jeffrey C Wells' 'Skin Horse, it starts out in black and white with thr shift to color having narrative significance.

I see Yay as being the one that management calls in when a particularly difficult situation needs to be "dealt with quietly and without undue publicity"...
Calling Yay is definitely the last resort and everyone in management is uneasy about having to deal with them...

Especially as Yay has a strong if Quixotic ethical frame-work. They are quite capable of betraying their employers if the person that they're supposed to 'deal with' has their sympathies.

Yeah, with their development, I could see Yay turning into a freelancer more in line with The Equalizer.

I've met a few Daves from Accounting. The whole 'vaguely uncomfortable with our gender presentation' thing usually ends one of two ways - I haven't been the target, but I've watched it happen, about both gender presentation and race: One, the Dave decides he's more uncomfortable about the fact that he's uncomfortable, and vaguely concerned this means he's discriminating and then the Dave tries to understand, or two, the Dave decides that being uncomfortable is the target's fault and problems commence.

I've had no problem using serrated blades on freshly baked bread, provided that the knife is nice and sharp. I find that non-serrated blades tend to have trouble getting through the crust.

Personally, I find it really depends on the type of bread you're trying to cut, and, really, there's something about the feel of a non-serrated blade cutting through a hard crust that gives me shivers, and not in a Roko kind of way.

But I do sharpen the thing every time it makes a trip through the dishwasher, usually to the point where I can shave with it.

I never put my knives through the dishwasher. I was told it's bad for their temper. Not to mention that the one time I accidentally put a carbon steel knife in, it came out looking etched.

I've bought sliced bread all my life. Am I missing out?

Possibly.

Though the shivers I mentioned is more of a nails on chalk board kind of thing.

A properly sharpened and honed knife, made out of decent steel, will cut through bread crust like no problem.
But a serrated knife is much more practical. If you use it only for bread, you'll never need to sharpen anything.
Idk why but the first Dave that my mind pictured was Dave Norton from GTA.

Maybe? I bake my own bread sometimes, and nothing compares to that smell and taste.
