Comic's up.

Now I want to play a D&D game that is DM'ed by Roko.

Same.

It'd be interesting to see where her knack for narrative pursuits takes her.

I'm just trying to work out where this is going. Is Roko's teasing going to turn into flirting (or at least something Yay interprets as such)? Or, in a real twist, will Yay run into a Dave from Accounting whilst getting a relaxing tea to sniff from CoD and we are all going to be left wondering if Roko can see the future?

Ah, some good old-fashioned, back-and-forth, QC-style banter! - Trouble is, Roko is good at it, but Yay apparently hasn't grasped the rules yet
( Hint for Yay: There are no rules, don't bother trying to understand them  :-D )

Hopefully, Yay is processing negative emotions rather than preparing future strategies.

Not necessarily. People often don’t roll out unless they think that they need to. And of “Dave” has a crush on Yay already, he may just go with wishful thinking.

I'm just trying to work out where this is going.

Does it need to go anywhere? Silly banter like this is what QC does best - like all of the strips of various members of the cast riffing on a random subject at Coffee of Doom.

Is this considered an odd pairing elsewhere? It didn't stand out to me.

Well, yes, it does. Randomness without any pay-off is a turn-off to me.

Read them, didn't like them (Yes, I have the printed volumes). When actual stories started being told was when I think that this strip found its magic. Magic that has increasingly been lost in the last couple of years.

You do realise that in real life, there's no "going somewhere" right? Things just happen. Narrative is a lie we humans tack onto events to make sense of them, but it doesn't actually exist.

People have conversations, often silly and "pointless" ones. Cos they're fun.

Honestly, the "random" friendly banter is never pointless regardless of whether it's plot-relevant, because it shows and develops the characters' relationships for the audience. Penny eventually getting less (understandably) prickly and joining in the verbal shenanigans with her coworkers, the CoD crew going on wacky tangents with each other and clearly enjoying each other's company rather than just getting through a work day together, the various ways different characters would respond to getting teased, etc. And I've always found it enjoyable just seeing these friends act like friends as they made zillions of indie music references that sailed right over my head. I started reading when I saw mention of Faye's Big Reveal on some internet list and felt intrigued by the promise of serious depth and drama, and of course I enjoy seeing plotlines unfold, but I've stuck around all this time for the characters. [Marge Simpson] I just think they're neat. [/Marge Simpson]

Also, it may be because I've been vicariously watching a lot of Star Trek Voyager of late (I know someone who's seeing it for the first time, and streaming it), but I'm hearing a lot of "irritated Jeri Ryan" in Yay's latest lines.

Didn't vote in the poll but I've never heard of them. Google tells me they are sold here though.

You must have skipped, like, the first 500 strips then.

Read them, didn't like them (Yes, I have the printed volumes). When actual stories started being told was when I think that this strip found its magic. Magic that has increasingly been lost in the last couple of years.
I didn't enjoy most of the first 500 strips either. If the comic had continued in that vein I probably wouldn't have kept reading. Luckily it was already up to the lake house arc by the time I found it.

But I also don't think the magic has gone out of the strip in the last few years. I'm still interested to discover where Jeph will take the Roko & Yay storyline, May & Dale working for Marigold, Elliot & Clinton's relationship, Claire's ambition, Pintsize's new body, Aurelia's story, etc.

I don't mind if we take a bit of a meandering route to get there. In fact I'd be happy to meander past some of the characters that we haven't seen for a while (ie. Sven, Brun, Renee, etc). I think it's always going to feel slow when 1 day in the comic takes up weeks or even months of time in real life. Perhaps the stories that Jeph is choosing to tell these days just aren't interesting to you. That's cool, not everything is for everyone.
