On the note of moving robotic bodies around.

Also, come on, Iris. I liked you.

Or right, jargon.

Omni wheel/omnidirectional wheel: a wheel with multiple rollers along its out edge that allow it to roll sideways in addition to the foward spin of the wheel.

Spider tank: a robot/mech that uses a combination of legs and wheels/treads to move about giving it a much wider variety of terrain it can traverse. The concept is largely constricted to science fiction at the moment, but attempts have been made. As the name implies, it's usually got a turret or some other projectile weapon affixed to the main body. The Tachikoma from GitS: Stanalone Complex would be a good example.

Shuffler: uses rotational movenment to shift around verticle plates for locomotion. There's an entire category in Battlebots for them.

At least Iris doesn't go straight to "no, that's incorrect, you're wrong, humans are stupid", so that's something.

I wonder how deeply Hannelore has just shaken Iris's view of herself and, indeed, of the whole world? "Wait, you mean that I'm not intrinsically better than you? Wow! This is going to make it harder for me to condescend and look down on you guys!"

Wow, I wasn't expecting anyone to go pure flight.

Also, you can select up to three options for the poll (because I meant for 2 but typo'd so screw it.) Remember; options are good.

I doubt it. However, to be honest, I think that Iris would probably do her best to emphasise that she is not impressed by any blood relationship between Hannelore and Dr John (and I'm sure she'd have unflattering things to say about his 'coincidental' involvement in her existence).

Why not just A TANK?

Re, comic: That wasn't what I expected.

I had considered it, but it's technically covered under the wheels/treads option. Granted, I suppose the multiple votes does make the 'spider tank' option redundant. I should have included a "some combination of" in that question.

Quite frankly, though, I feel the poll has only one correct answer.

I'm curious as to which. Winged flight seems quite, but I'm guessing a prop system would theoretically allow for a fly wheel and an alternator to be used to help wiith power conservation.

This is the difference between having a 'how to...' database and actually having practised doing something. Iris knew the position but she didn't know the warning signs and she didn't know all the intermediate steps and how to move through them.

I’m holding out for anti-gravity.

That'll be interesting when we see true anti-grav that doesn't rely on magnets.

Until then;

EDIT: It can lift this guy, but I'm not sure how wel l this super magnet array will hold 200+ lbs folks yet. So I'll probably have to wait for the hover longboard.

Yeah, I chose "Other" too :- I mean, if we're going for sci-fi transport solutions, why not go all the way?
I chose teleportation - but levitating into the teleportation portal would be totally cool...

I don't get cold easily, but I still sleep under a cover. I don't think I could fall asleep otherwise.

More broadly, most humans prefer to be covered with something when sleeping, and the human body thermoregulates pretty well. And we tend to sleep in heated/insulated rooms, so the warmth benefit is tangential at best, I would argue.

Point is, sleeping under a cover is not necessarily only about temperature.

Agreed, and it makes the summers here even more hellish. A sheet isn’t thick enough to work for my mental needs, but even that makes the overheating worse.

I'm a bit confused about what time it is.  Is this a night yoga class, and that's why Faye and Bubbles are asleep?  Or is this implying that Iris was stuck in that position for hours into the night?  But then why is Iris talking as if the class is still going and she just got into that position now?

I genuinely wondered where the hell Faye's phone was hiding, and didn't see that Jeph actually answered this question until the second or third viewing.

A sensible chuckle may have escaped.

Roko has a charging boob, so sure, why not have an inductive coil in your left ass cheek? Maybe it was originally for charging and carrying some sort of weapons system or something.

Is it just me, or "I hate saying this, but thanks" barely qualifies as thanks at all?

I know, it's supposed to establish Iris' personality, but thanking someone or apologising for something etc. is (to me) supposed to be about expressing a genuine sentiment (or an acceptable imitation of one, since telepathy is not a thing), not about saying the correct sequence of magic words. If I thank someone and make sure to express explicitly that I do not *want* to do this, it counts (again, to me) as not actually thanking them.

It has about the same value as a parent or a teacher forcing a kid to apologise to another kid. It's an apology only on a technicality.

EDIT: also, "nobody better tell Willow about this". Iris, you said to everyone that Willow is having fun times in the toilet due to eating bad food. Despite her express wishes for you not to do just that. Hypocrisy much?

I agree that her gratitude is not really genuine, and she's demanding exactly what she refused to do for Willow, but

"How are you feeling?"
"Awful. That's normal though."

She could just talking about feeling awful because she had to go through a reboot, essentially, but I am getting the distinct impression that Iris is making a more general comment on her state of mind/being, and hints at a possible explanation for her misanthropic tendencies.

And it depends on how one defines "together".  Marten is at least somewhere he's content, and aside from Claire not having a job in her field yet (and he's heavily invested in her happiness), he's in a good place.  And his contentment, and being centred probably does help her feel better in the now, even if she still stresses about her future.

Hanners, as well, seems pretty together these days, and, if my own experiences with exposure therapy and contamination issues are any analogue, probably isn't overly troubled by them on a constant or possibly even daily basis.

Faye and Bubbles seem to be in a good place both as a couple and within themselves, work fears and stresses notwithstanding.

Sam,[1] Jim, Veronica, and all of the characters currently taking an extended bus trip also seem to be in fairly good places with themselves.

One doesn't need to have everything perfect, both in their lives or in themselves to be "together", even if there are struggles, whether persistent or intermittent.

That's interesting, because it comes over very differently to me. The way I read it, it's the very genuineness and depth of her sentiment that forces her to express it, even though that's not something she would normally be willing to do. Basically saying that her need to express her thanks to them has overcome her general hatred of thanking anybody, more or less.

It looks like Willow can be a bit of a space-cadet (love her ditzy expression in the last panel) and needs Iris-Mom to keep her grounded.

I like the way both Hannelore and Marigold immediately pick up on the Dynamic that Iris so vociferously denies exists...  :-D

Tsunundre in denial and thus being aggressive even towards her One True Love.

...yyyyeah I'm not gonna say Roko really has her life together. (Or that she's normal.)

I'm gonna go with Marten at this point. We don't see him much - and when we do, it's often when Claire is the focus - precisely because he's gotten his life together.

Together may be too strong a word; as someone said, who does have their life together?

Maybe I wasn't asking so much 'together' as 'not a fucking shambles'

But then they're also millennials I guess and we're fucked

I'm not saying she does.

Who else was it who says "This @#$&*! town..."?
