I'm sure I missed quite a few classes from the various Final Fantasy games, but here's a decent spread for Pintsize to pick from.

His outfit reminds me most of Tidus from FFX, but for some reason, I could really see Pintsize as a Blue Mage.[1]

[1] For those unfamiliar with the franchise, White Mages are healers, Black Mages damage dealers, Red Mages mix both, as well as melee combat[2], and Blue Mages don't have normal spell lists, but instead learn all of their abilities from monster attacks, and depending on the game, have to actually be hit by them to have a chance of learning the ability.
[2] A bit of stereotypical munchkin there

Regarding JRPG classes : "Other". Because I have NO idea. At all.

Regarding this comic: There goes Claire, displaying her under-developed chill again - she's been living with this bunch for this long and she still doesn't know how they roll?
This is why Claire is...not my favourite character in Questionable Content - I get this constant nagging impression that Claire is only here to be this sort-of-non-QC character who  points out what all the rest of the QC characters are doing wrong.  :-\

Marten meets Hanners in 515, right?
Seems that way.

Got to love early installment weirdness.

Thank you. I do have other things to do today.

True, but I think Hannelore had some pretty good excuses.
First, she was on some pretty strong medication when they met.
Second, she first encountered a drunken Marten in the Ladies' Room - peeing in the sink...

It was Faye's taser (because of course Faye owns a taser), but Marten was wielding it (none too smoothly).

And, yeah, Marten wasn't exactly on his best behavior either at their first meeting. Appropriate personal boundaries have never really been a thing in QC.

I’m not sure that Claire is being jealous here.  She does seem to be the most straight-laced character in the group at times, although she does have a delightfully twisted streak just wide enough to keep her from being too boring.

Claire does have one point here: Marten is entirely too accepting of people (that he doesn't know) deciding that they are a borderline-intimate part of his life.

It's a webcomic that functions according to webcoming rules, but if some random person I just met declared themselves my friend and started following me around IRL I would be extremely creeped out and keen to get rid of them ASAP, so I can't really fault Claire for her way of thinking.

Exactly my thinking when I was reading fridays comic. So I‘m all with Claire here.
Everyone in QC has some kind of special trait, from anything in the queer spectrum over personal struggles up to outright mental health problems. That makes the whole comic so inclusive and special, that‘s one important thing that makes me love these stories so much. Why should Willow be an exeption to that? So I suppose hers is a profound lack of social distance and intuition or something. She reminds me a bit of Tilly, Hannelores ex-assistant and now assistant to her father (and love interest of Station).

Jeph has been doing a lot of stuff with her lately, so I suppose we‘re in for some more Willow-lore and appearances in the future. I curious for that.

I kinda feel like this is also one of those 'characters in stories make bad assumptions to fuel drama because nobody communicated properly' things. It's a pretty important detail that Willow asked if it was alright to come along and reiterated that she'd leave if he wasn't cool with hanging out. Like, she didn't just start following him around. (And also, Willow never actually said to Claire that she and Marten were now friends - from her perspective, they're just hanging out.)

This may be me but I've honestly got the feeling that this is a very self-referential and meta storyline. Jeph seems to be consciously mocking Marten's passive nature (random person comes along, says that they are his friend and he says 'okay'). He also is pointing and laughing about how improbable are the plot contrivances he's used to make Willow a member of the regular cast.

Also, yes, one of the reasons why Marten is like this is because he really is bad at making excuses... or any other method for extracting himself from unwelcome social contacts other than by shrugging passively and saying: "Okay!"

Except consider the milieu.  This is a webcomic set in a somewhat eclectic college town, but where the bulk of the characters are young just-post-college-age characters.  These kinds of encounters happen at that age.

Heck, I gained a pack of friends and a future lover and roommate based on a single chance conversation with them on a subway train, and Northampton is LIKE this -- in a double irony, I live about three minutes walk from that "Panda House" intersection Jeph often uses as a backdrop ... that being Armory Street going into Pleasant Street, where there used to be a good Chinese Restaurant named "Panda Gardens," altogether too long ago.

I think that’s the point.  Of course, these days, Sven is trying to *not* get to “know” people like he used to.

I was kidding when I wondered if Claire and Willow would end up best friends ever within two weeks. I clearly should have more confidence in my own cynicism.

While these sorts of things are sweet, people don't have to end up friends. It happens but it would also be interesting if Claire were to retain suspicion (not antagonism, just suspicion) of Willow for being nosy an interfering with Clinton's life without invitation or something. Marten could try to mediate and maybe we could have an arc about Willow wondering if just getting involved with strangers' lives is worth it (answer: yes, if it helps but be sure of your permissions first). Maybe it could also be an arc for Claire after maybe Clinton reminds her that she can be like this too.

What gets me is not that the art changed a lot (that happens for many long-running webcomics), it's that it changed a lot MULTIPLE times, over the comic's run. It was not a "from A to B" journey, it zig-zagged from A to B to C to D, the way I see it.

At least, Jeph is torturing him far less often, and to a significantly lesser extent than he used to.
