We had one of these threads before, I think.  Gloat, review, complain, etc., about albums you've recently picked up.

I had a very good day at the used shop today, picking up Broken Social Scene's You Forgot It in People (the original Arts & Crafts release!) and British Sea Power's The Decline of British Sea Power for a total of $11.

I've listened to each once already, and I'm looking forward to going back and absorbing more of both pretty soon.

Well people have heard me raving about them recently, but I recently acquired The Doves - Lost Souls, which for the most part I think is fantastic.  There's no better music to lie back and chill out to.  It's very much the kind of stuff you put on after a night out, when you enter the recuperation stages.

"You Fail Me" by Converge when it came out last year. I'm a bad little pirate.

It was, is and will always be awesome, though.

The last CD I bought was this weekend: Forefather-Ours is the Kingdom. Awesome folky/blackish/epic Anglo-Saxon Metal, with hints of the sort of utterly non-malicious* nationalism that I tend to really appreciate. 'Proud to be Proud' and 'Rebel of the Marshlands' in particular are darn good stuff.

Yellow Swans-Dreamed Yellow Swans CD
I've a couple other releases by these guys and this one is my favorite so far. Complex building industrial type drones that sound mathier and more complex than the couple more recent CD-R releases I have. I find it makes good exercise music

V/A Secrets and Sounds of Animal Disguise CD
This is somehow a lot more fun than a noise comp should be. As its 74 minutes a couple of the less interesting songs in the middle do drag a bit. I love the song 'I wish U would push it' by ROTFL a clever take on 'Push It'. The album also seems to contain some in jokes in the form of a tribute to noise artist Mammal on one track. As is normal for such albums there are some rather amusing song titles the best two being "Pimp Stumbles Into Booby Trap" and "This Device is Decaying Right In Front of My Face Plate".

Double Leopards-The Blind Destroyer Mini CD-R
Not as interesting as I hoped. Only had time to listen to it once.

Not listened to due to record player being out of order until recently:
Pengo-A nervous splendor LP
Wolfy Eyes/Panicsville-Stabbed in the Face LP

The Killers - Hot Fuss
The Music - Welcome to the North
Snow Patrol - Final Straw

I'm not a fan of the second two so much- The Music tends to bleed out after a while, like their style is so discerned that it's hard for them to break through it and hit you with an actual song rather than actual sound. I mean I'm a fan of the single (Breakin') but other than that it all seems like filler. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I need to listen to it more- but on the first few listens, that was it.

As far as Snow Patrol is concerned I do really like some of the tracks, and others are pretty o.k. 'Chocolate' and 'Run' are great radio singles, but don't really speak for the rest of the albums style. They tend to get a little poppy in a weird way on some tracks.

The Killers I was pretty surprised with. Despite the fact I'd already heard half the album on the radio, there were still some nice little nuggets to digest. The opener has a pretty fantastic bassline and drives you straight into the mood.

Yeah I'm sick of typing.

i just got A3's exile on coldharbour lane today.  it's the greatest...ummm...sweet pretty country gospel acid house musick on the planet.  crazy guys from alabama taking their down home gospel & blues influënces and making semi-electronic weirdness with them.  yum.

and these aren't quite purchases, because they were free downloads from the bands sites, but hindu pez's* stopping the ministry ov peace is fun if you're into over the top noisy digital hardcore, and scanner's** case is odd little electronic vignettes, plus scanner's surface noise is an interesting (and very soothing) experiment.

Snow Patrol really bore me...they're too quiet to be engaging but too loud to be soft-spoken; they have a weird, kind of angular tune that lacks personality.

I was also surprised with The Killers. While I don't really like "Somebody Told Me" as much as others seem to, "Mr. Brightside" is a wonderful song.

The last album I bought was Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation a few weeks ago, and I'm totally going to buy a CD or two this weekend.

They have a new album out soon...
I've avoided spending any money on music for a while as A- I'm skint and B - I get a fair bit sent for free - The Arcade Fire, Rilo Kiley, Bloc Party, Death in Vegas, Dogs...
I love my job soooo much.

You were talking about them recently, weren't you?

I'd heard of them before, but the main reason I picked it up (well, in addition to it being cheap) was 'cause I remembered someone here said it was one of their favorite albums.

last album I *bought* was A Dozen Furies ep. Typical metal-core stuff, but I really enjoy it. They're good at what they do.

Last album I *got* was was "Picaresque" by The Decemberists. Only listened to it once so far but my initial impression is "Not as good as the last 3 releases" but I need to listen to it a few more times before I make a final opinion.

and I must applaud Arkturas. Daydream Nation is an album everyone should own, whether they are Sonic Youth fnas or not.

My most recent purchase was The Fiery Furnaces' Blueberry Boat album.

Pure audio crack.  I can't stop listening to this album.  It's like Charlie Brown meets Bjork.

"My Dog Was Lost ..." must have been inspired by Snoopy dancing.

Edit:  Except maybe for "Mason City"

There's some conflicting percussions in that song that make my brain stop.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I tend to like them a lot more than a lot of the other emo-type bands they're grouped with. This I found out when one of my friends found out I liked them and spent ages trying to introduce me to 'better' emo bands. I still have the scars (and the Funeral for a Friend CDs) to prove it.

No CD's this weekend because I went to an awesome concert (Rammstein supported b Apocalyptica: fucking amazing show), unless you count the samplers of Battle Metal and Earache records bands I got from the front of an issue of Metal Hammer, who for once decided to live up to their name: picture of Rob Halford in a big leather jacket making two horns salutes on the front cover and a couple of CD's full of true metal. They still had an interview with Ville Valo though. I really don't know how they get one EVERY MONTH.

They also called Atreyu goth. People just make me angry sometimes.
