I just saw Unwed Sailor Thursday Night at The End in Nashville. I always like seeing them and i got my favorite spot: front and center stage. they played 2 or 3 new songs along with a ton of their back catalog. they were set up different then when i saw them in 2002-2003... the bass player was surronged with keyboards and thrashed around in the little 'pen' made when the keys boxed him in. the drumming was ace as always and the rhodes was especially sweet on this occasion. Damn... it was worth getting in bed at 1:30, then getting up 3 hours later for an 8 hour workday.

a local band opened and played some awesome instrumentals in a 5 song set, which reminded me a lot of explosions in the sky dynamics with bass riffs from modest mouse 'moon and antarctica' (the bass was a little more datached and played a counter-role... it was also more punchy and actually played like a bass, unlike the guitar-like style of EITS guitarist/bassist)... this local band (who i didn't catch a name for) has 4 members. they were set up just like EITS, the rhythm guy played a telecaster and rocked out a lot... the middle man played a rickenbacker hollowbody and played most of the lead. a lot of repetitive single note phrases that the rhythm would harmonize with every now and then... the bassist was stage left and layed down pretty good rhythm on his pbass

then some shitty band that sounded like 3 doors down. i fucking hate bands like that... they get up on stage, and the singer basically wears a les paul for looks and every now and then bars a chord or two on his drop-d tuned guitar. that, and his voice was worse than i've heard in a long time... they were called "fear and trembling" or something to that effect. everyone cleared out after the opener because this band sucked so bad... once they were done, somone stuck their head out the door and yelled "Unwed Sailor is gonna play now!" and it filled up quick.

I went to the Plan-it-X on the 4th.
I think there were about 12 bands. I missed a few due to some train tracks hijinks, but I did get to see three of my absolute favorite bands:

Ghost Mice. They place completely aoustic, don't even use mics. And the thing is, you can't even tell. I'll resist a rant about other bands letting the music overpower the lyrics, but it was refreshing to be able to make out every word for once.

Defiance, Ohio. They're just so fun to see live, and I know almost every one of their songs by heart now.

This Bike Is a Pipe Bomb. It was about 1:30 in the morning by the time they played, and I'm sure Terry and Rymodee were exhausted because they'd been working at their restaraunts pretty much the last 12 hours, but you caouldn't tell. And I danced at a show for the first time. The only complaint that I have is that they didn't play Johnny.

Do Make Say Think
Metric
Most Serene Republic

... and another couple acts that I wasn't really a fan of
but otherwise ... AMAZING

Just saw Scout Niblett for the 2nd time and it was great of course, minus the drunken chattering frats.  Still glad I went to this show instead of built to spill.

I went to summerfest in milwaukee on 7/7 and saw:

The Frey - bleh
The Pixies - Awesome!  Such a fun time, great set, they played 25 songs!
Weezer - They only played one song off of pinkerton! Over half their set was from the new album.  Their set was a little over half the time that The Pixies played and THEY WERE THE HEADLINERS.  I fucking hate them now.  Bastards.  All the frat kids were dancing away to "Beverly Hills"! Bah.
Death Cab For Cutie:  Caught the end of their set, really really good!  I like them much better live than on the album, there was a lot of energy in the air.

My last was also the recent Blood Brothers tour. Missed every other band on the bill, but I don't mind. Dredg, mewithoutyou, and Coheed and Cambria do nothing for me. Way too many little kids there. Too bad they didn't play at the Mesa Luna again. With bands that don't...you know, suck.

Going to see !!! in just over a week! Excitement!

Bright Eyes in Fargo, really good other than the drunk assholes yelling at Connor the whole fucking time. I mean normally I wouldn't care too much but I mean it affects him!

Ugh, that happened in Portsmouth this year, some hardcore punk guy was shouting at him to do an older song, even telling him 'Here I know how it goes, it starts out D...'

There's no fucking way that The Hives are ever better than Mike-Pattony Fantômas goodness.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

It's the worst I just wanted to smack him in the face, sure most other artists would just ignore him or brush it off but I mean Connor was getting visibliy annoyed I thought he was going to just take off, he stopped 'lua' half way though to ask him to stop yelling at him.

That sounds great. Except for Swollen Members, they don't really do anything for me. GZA and I Self Devine would be more than enough though.
Last show I saw was DJ Hype last night. It would be fair to say he rinsed it out. More rewinds than you could shake a stick at. And tomorrow I see Mogwai, so my hearing better recover while I sleep tonight.

I saw the cat empire last night.

UN-FUCKING BELEIVABLE. they played for 2 and a half hours, great set. The energy was just amazing, the music was brilliant.

For those that don;t know they are an aussi band that joined because of their jazz origins but got into cuban/latino and hip hop as well.

yeah, at the bright eyes show it was kind of like that... except there were straight-edge kids yelling at conor because he was drinking (and by drinking i mean d-runnk). and then before he even started, he was yelled at to sing something from fevers and mirrors, even though it was the digital ash tour and he didn't even have the guitar in his hand yet.

The last show I went to was my own. The other bands we played with were wierd as hell. One of them was like a bad version of Rilo Kiley with a drum backing track and a guitar player who wanted to be in ACDC.

I saw the Dead Pets for the fourth time on Saturday. It was probably one of the best gigs I've been to despite the fact that the support bands were pretty crap.

I don't think they're capable of playing badly.

Last show I saw was some local rock/punk thingamabob. Had a pretty good time. Also I'm seeing Modern Life Is War next week, along with some excellent supporting bands (Jakóbínarína, Momentum and I Adapt). Can't wait.
