here's a sketch of my boyfriend ... i had to take a picture of it and that's why the quality sucks ... i think i actually touched this one up since i took the picture, so the actual drawing his some more contrast.

http://pics.livejournal.com/weatherproof/pic/0000k4wx

and ... this is the kinda stuff i doodle all the time:

That doodle is wonderful, asterisk!:) I'd put new doodles/drawings here but moving back home has taken up my time. Soon the boredom of the summer holidays will wash over me and all i'll be doing is doodling.

Nice!  I figure a background wouldn't be hard to think of but would be tricky to draw.  Well, at least for me.

well... i am exactly the opposite: i can't draw on paper *g*

@tinjessla
Thanks! :) it's my first finished non-comic-type work, and the sixth pic i drew at all...

@valrus
neat! you should make a digital version of it!

Despite the fact that i f....d up the colour of the armour (it wasn't intended to look like that) i really like it now. I think i will make a print from it as soon as i made a decent background.

Thanks! But I'm too poor to afford any quality art-type software and I don't know how to use it well anyway! Also I would need to get a tablet (which I might do at some point, but I'm unemployed and trying to be frugal this summer) and yadda yadda yadda. So I'm working on improving my regular drawing abilities first, I guess, and maybe I'll try and delve more into computer art when I have money again.

you could use "the gimp". nearly as good as photoshop, and its free and available for windows linux and mac os x.
www.gimp.org
i used gimp for the dwarf, too ;)

and another doodle i finished. it's too large to post here (1000x600 pixel) so klick HERE to look at it. :)

I've used the gimp. As a dyed-in-the-wool OS X user, I have to say that the interface sucks and I hate it and I couldn't use it for more than 10 minutes.

Pretty powerful though! And you did a helluva job on that dwarf with it. But even if I liked the gimp's interface, I need as little as possible between my scant abilities to be creative and the means to make something from that creativity. Learning how to use software as complex as the gimp would be a huge stumbling block and I doubt I'd end up being able to use it for anything worthwhile without like a year of mucking around.

Also: Do you have a tablet?

well, i was used to photoshop before, but as we all know, there wont ever be a version for linux. and because gimp is very similar to ps in most regards, i tried it and was happy. the best thing is, that they are constantlyy working on it, making improvements and stuff.

and yes, i have a tablet. and you are right, without it i wouldn't have been able to draw the warf... but you get tablets for nearly no money theses days and most off them are not too bad (but also not as good as the wacom thingies... i loves me my graphire 3 8x6).

I just got myself a 8x6 graphire 3 as well, and i've been playing with it. this is a work in progress... I know it sucks, but then again, I'm not an artist, even though I sometimes pretend I am

this is a cool thread. so, i figure i can show some of my "art." i don't think too much of my abilities, but i'm my own worse critic.

i use a Wacom Intous 4X5 and Photoshop Elements 3.0. i tried a graphire and just didn't like how it felt, it felt like drawing on a glass surface to me. this is far superior, to me at least.

anway, on to the drawings. forgive me if they're too big.

enjoy!

Thank you. They're out of proportion. I've since scaled down the fore eye and it's much better, she's looking more asian, which is a happy mistake.

that slogan is a good slogan. so good, in fact, I think it should be applied to other things. like, "there's no wrong way to hit your spouse." or "there's no wrong way to commit nonconsentual sodomy."

As suggested above: try The Gimp. It's FREE (yes, as in "free beer") and comparable to Photoshop. I've done all my pics with it.

Speaking of pics... I've been making some new ones since I have posted the last time here:

Shark Rider
Dark Knight  ( RPG character of a friend)
Fanart for another comic (please Jeph, don't hit me *whimper*)
The background of a work in progress...
