Mix Tape Help. Pretty Please?
« on: 17 Feb 2005, 21:47 »

Alright, so I need some help!

See, my friend's girl just broke up with him.  They've been dating a really long time, they had a really strong and mature relationship, and she just... realized she needed something else, or something.  He's a little confused on what went wrong.  He's not terribly sad, but he's upset (of course).

I want to make this kid a mix tape.  Plus, his keyboard is broken...

THANK YOU x100000

errr... sorry to hear that.  you didn't give us a whole lot to work with, though.  You want us to just spew off some bands were into at the moment, or good happy songs, or good breakup related songs, or do you want to give us some idea of what kind of music this guy is into, and then we can work from there?

Bright Eyes - It's Cool, We Can Still Be Friends
Rilo Kiley - Asshole
Kaiser Chiefs - Every Day I Love You Less and Less
Placebo - The Bitter End
The Killers - Somebody Told Me
Hefner - I took her love for granted
The Innocence Mission - I have loved you
Delgados - All You Need is Hate
Snow Patrol - Run
Pony Club - Single

I think I overdid the bitter, miserable self indulgent thing a little...

Never mind.

A mix tape....
He made me a mix tape...
He was thinking of me which shows he caaaaaress....

I'm sorry. Now that the Avenue Q interlude is over, procede.

On broken heart mixes I always opt for Elton John's "Someone Saved my Life Tonight."

Think about it.

Nine Inch Nails - Reptile

"she spreads herself wide open to let the insects in
she leaves a trail of honey to show me where she's been
she has the blood of reptile just underneath her skin
seeds from a thousand others drip down from within"

Nine Inch Nails - Wish

" i put my faith in god, and my trust in you
now there's nothing more fucked up i could do!
wish there was something real, wish there was something true
wish there was something real, in this world full of you!"

Nine Inch Nails - Piggy

"Hey, pig.  Yeah, you.  Hey pig piggy pig, pig pig.  All my fears came true.
Black and blue and broken boned, you left me here, I'm all alone.  My little piggy needed something new...
Nothing can stop me now, cause I don't care anymore. (you don't need me anymore)"

Brought to you by:  Trent Reznor.  When in all doubt, listen to NIN and waste away...

EDIT:  That obviously isn't going to match an "upper" mood.  Christ, I suggest staying away from NIN then.  Heh.

Pink Floyd - Hey You + Comfortably Numb
Smashing Pumpkins - 1979
The Cure - A Forest
Falming Lips - Race for the Prize.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

The Descendents "Pep Talk" is a must in this sort of situation.

It's not the end of the world
 Since your baby left you
 It's gonna be okay
 You don't need her anyway
You're looking around for someone to love
So you don't have to face the world alone
But give it some time and you might find
That you're better off on you own
Cause you could be dead right now
You could be the stupidest thing in the world
But you're not, look at what you've got
And stop thinking about that girl
You deserve the best, but it's up to you to get it
don't settle for less, you know you're gonna regret it
It's not the end of the world
 Since your baby left you
 It's gonna be okay
 You don't need her anyway
 Watching the tube, moping around
Might as well be six feet underground
You're watching the game go by
 Waiting for the final score
You got the beer commercials memorized
So you've probably heard this before
But this ain't the TV talking to you
It's a friend who's gonna tell you what you can do
You deserve the best, but it's up to you to get it
don't settle for less, you're the best and don't you forget it
I know what you're thinking ... you'll never find another
And even if you did, well, you couldn't love her
But out there somewhere is the person, place or thing
That you need to make you believe in you
It's not the end of the world
 Since your baby left you
 It's gonna be okay
You can find something better anyway
Just take your time. and you will find
 What your life requires
Just take your time. and you will find
 What your heart desires
Just take your time. and you will find
 You will find
