Was anyone else slightly disturbed by the video game magazine that came out a while ago with naked video game characters like bloodrayne, the women from leisure suit larry, etc.?

Granted, I consciously have to stop myself from buying DOA Beach Volleyball. >_>......<_<..... X_X!

Actually it was Playboy. I have the issue this stuff is in. It was a bunch of crap. It wasn't even disturbing, it was just lame.

I don't mind the game companies putting sexy women in games as long as it's a good game, and it's not just, "Oh look, hot girl!" they at least better have a freakin' character, but what I hate is when the game has NO SUBSTANCE -- Only sexy women. In Jurassic Park: Tresspasser, an FPS, you played as a chick and if you looked down, all you could see is your huge freakin' jugs. They took up half the screen, it was rediculous.

But of course, which is why women make useless action heroes in movies and games cause they can't see where they're going. Games need more flat chested heroinnes, at least then you can beleive they can fly around and kick arse. Judging from Lara Croft, I cannot honestly say I can see Pamela Anderson swinging from bars and leaping through the air, I'd be surprised if the woman can even jump.

actually a lot of those huge boobed heroines are designed by women. i currently cant name which ones, but i read some articles about it over at slahsdot and several other game related pages like gamespot.

and hey... they are chicks in GAMES. noone buys a game just because of the chicks if the game is crap.
ever noticed, that the guys in games also always are muscular, slender guys with faces that seem to be cut from granite? nobody seems to be offended by those characters. *snort* so get over the big breasted girls.

Q*Bert is dreaaaammy. I agree with Est and several other people, some of the charecters that some games are getting flat out ridicolous. Those that are made to be OMG SO HOT I WANT BONE for most people are unappealing to me.

That said I find Samus Aran appealing. Especialy some of the concept art I remember seeing unlocked in Metroid Prime where she is drawn with short hair.

Yeah, playboy did this a while ago. I'd like to thank them for convincing me NOT to spend money I can't afford on a subscription.

Having said that, some game characters are just designed sexy, so there's nothing wrong with admiring them. My personal favourite would be Nicolette Duclare (From Deus Ex), with Alyx Vance (from HL2) coming in a close second, just beating Mona Sax (from Max Payne) back into third place.

Actually, DOA:XVB was a pretty good game, if you like that kind of game.

It was essentially a dating sim, a particularly rare genre in the US, but pretty successful in Japan.

Yeah. Like Auron. Auron is probably the most masculine character in a squaresoft game ever. Ever.

All the rest...let's review, shall we?

Up to FF6: Sprite based...kinda hard to tell...uhhh...yeah.
FF7: Cloud could've passed for a girl even WITHOUT dressing up as one, (I still get nightmares from the whole Honey Bee Inn bit...), Barrett was a man. Vincent looked sort of girly, but he was cool. RedXIII was a dog. He doesn't count.
FF8: Squall was angsty and girly looking. Zell was whiny and annoying. Irvine was ALMOST cool, even if a bit girly looking, until you found out he had no nerve. Seifer wasn't so girly.
FF9: ...Yeah...uhhh...I'm not even gonna touch this one. All the male characters were girly. Steiner had mascara on. I thought Zidane was a girl for most of the game. I'm told that Kuja actually WAS a woman in the Japanese version. I haven't varified that, though.
FFX: Tidus was pretty girly. Yep. No doubt about that. Wakka was...Wakka. And Auron was a man. Kimahri never really talked, so...

So. Yeah. Square has trouble with making masculine male characters.
