I have the Postal Service CD  "Give Up"  and I highly enjoy it.  It helps me sleep during my anxiety-ridden nights.  I was wondering if there was a band out there with a similar sound, I just don't want to play out my CD.  Thanks for your help ^_^

Try Dntel's CD; Jimmy Tamborello (one-half of the Postal Service) is a master with teh beats, and Dntel is his day job.

The Album Leaf is similar, although it's mostly instrumental.  It's pretty mellow and I like sleeping to it.

yes check out teh notwist!1 don't even worry about what cd you get of theirs, everything i've heard from them is amazing.

you should check out Stars also. it is a guy and a girl singing. they have a new cd (donno if there are any old ones or not) called "set yourself on fire"

give it at least one or 2 listens, it's different, but is one of my favorite cds now.

Frou Frou's Details is the closest I can think of. I can't imagine anyone liking one album and not the other.

The Flaming Lips' recent stuff could be shoved roughly into the same category as well. Mr. Dntel himself has even remixed "Do You Realize".

I third the Notwist recommendation. Neon Golden is a great album. Hood's Cold House is in a similar vein, though edging closer to post-rock. It's also reeeeeally bleak.

Well, I wouldn't put the Flaming Lips in the same category, though the "TPS Remix" of "Do You Realize" is friggin' amazing. But Frou Frou is for yes.

i worked at this web place over the summer, and i was the youngest person there (by like 15 years). when i gave one of the guys there some cds, he was like "omgwtf postal service = ripoff" and i was all "what are you talking about"

then he gave me a cd by "the lightning seeds".

it sounded kind of similar, but i didn't really like it. i wish i had ripped it so i could give it some time and check it out again, but didn't. might wanna check that band out too.

Man, im not seeing the similarity between any of the bands mentioned, and the postal service.

Dntel is mainly stuttered, downtempo beats.

Album Leaf is mainly psychodelic synth.

The Notwist is mainly poo.

Frou Frou is mainly...wtf is Frou Frou. I dunno, but it's not like TPS (though it is awesome).

Next thing someones gonna say Freezepop sounds like TPS >.<

None of the consequent recomndations sound like the Postal Service, but they have the involvement of Jimmy Tamborello, so...
Rilo Kiley (More Adventurous - it's songs like Accidntel Deth which stand out rather than some of the dross on the album)
And Bright Eyes - Digital Ash in a Digital Urn.

Yay - got my daily BE plug in!

Well, of course they're not all just clones of each other—if they were, they probably wouldn't be very good! But in the scheme of things, they're certainly in the same basic area.

James - I think you just said all that needed to be said.
So, the fact I said that renders  my post utterly pointless, but anyway. I agree.

Death Cab is Postal Service-y in the very strong sense that Ben Gibbard is in both of them.

Look at the allmusic.com description of the postal service for some interesting info.  I love that place.

that slogan is a good slogan. so good, in fact, I think it should be applied to other things. like, "there's no wrong way to hit your spouse." or "there's no wrong way to commit nonconsentual sodomy."

Except for "(This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan" which spawned the whole postal service thing in the first place...

um... no.  very much no.  Neon Golden is a fan-fucking-tastic record... and quite a bit better than the postal service, at that.

ooooh, just thought of another one -
Broken Spindles
Its the side project from Joel from The Faint, it's a lot more mellow than the faint, and a bit darker than TPS, but it's all good.

The Headphones sound similar to the Postal Service.

It's David Bazan also known as Pedro the Lion with Tim Walsh of Pedro the Lion as well and Frank Lenz of Starflyer 59.

The sound similar, but with a more dated tone on them. They tones aren't as clean and modern as the Postal Service.

Her Space Holiday is basically Postal Service, but less expertly executed.

I am Robot and Proud is similar in musical style.

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone basically has the same songs but with cheesecasio backing.

Say Hi To Your Mom is ditto, only with a slightly more guitar flavor.

that's all I got

not to be authoritarian, but anyone who says that dntel (or at least Life is Full of Possibilites) doesn't sound like Postal Service is off their rocker. Dntel + Ben Gibbard + Guitar = Postal Service. it's not that difficult.

and "Title And Registration" off of Transatlanticism definitely sounds like TPS too.

but yeah, go get/steal dntel. you will not be sad.

They don't sound much like TPS, but no one can beat Hem for mellow music...I'd say they're more Iron-and-Wine folksy vibe. Their Rabbit Songs album lulls me to sleep whenever my mind is uneasy...It's definitely one of CDs I'd take to a desert island. Sadly, I'm not so sure about their relatively new CD. I'll have to take a closer listen than Amazon samples. ^^;;
