They make me want to grab Tom, Tim and Brad.  Look straight into their eyes and say, "Come on, guys.  Audioslave.  Chris Cornell?  Come on."

Not a fan. Not a fan at all. Pretty much I don't like Chris Cornell. Which is blasphemy where I'm from, but yeah.

I don’t care either way myself, but I know quite a few Audioslave (and Chris Cornell and Tom Morello) fans that loved the first album and think the new single is horrible.

I was also amused when Pitchfork noted that “Audioslave” is an anagram of “adios value.”

myself, im impartial, i think the issue that alot people have with audioslave is that they are comparing them to RATM, which is impossible.... if you take em at face value, there better than most.

chris cornell was hot shit in soundgarden, i won't lie.  they were one of the only "grunge" bands i could stand.
but audioslave are such bottom of the barrel shit.  gah.  and i fucking hate tom morello so much.

i certainly don't have the same hatred for them many others have exhibited. my reaction can be summed up generally as "eh." they're not as good as soundgarden OR RATM, and that's sad. mix'n'mash bands are almost always not as good as the originals (see also: velvet revolver, van halen with anyone else besides david lee roth [but ESPECIALLY douchey mcdouchenstein, the new guy, who is not only not david lee roth, but is also not even sammy hagar])

it's sad.

They're at their best at full volume in the car on a hot summer's day. And I have a GOOD sound system.

that said, there's no other scenario in which I tend to listen to them.

still, I like them well enough.

My housemate has a D.V.D. of Audioslave, and I was watching him with it once for want of anything better to do.  There was an interview with one of the band-members, who was talking about Chris Cornell's lyrics for one of the songs - something about a bloke sitting around in a chair.  The band-member was saying how he'd asked Cornell what the guy in the song was waiting for, and the answer was "He's waiting to die."  The band-member being interviewed then used this as an explanation of how "deep" Chris Cornell was - he seemed seriously in awe.  Yeah, 'cause like, death is way deep and shit.  Good grief, talk about your adolescent angsty woe-is-me poetry!  "Deep"? I hadn't heard people talk like that since High School!  And these are grown men?!

So yeah, seems to me like they're a bunch of tools.

I like their first cd, i've heard the new single I know, but can't recall what it sounds like, meaning that it wasn't as good imo as their singles from the first cd

so we'll see.

Audioslave's first album was only slightly above average, but considering the range that Cornell has shown in the past, combined with the talent that Morello has shown in the past, I have hope for the second album.

Of course, both of their later work (with the exception of Chris Cornell's solo album) were awful. Once Tom stopped playing guitar, and started just making noise, Rage sucked hard.

That's the rub about Audioslave. I like the first two RATM albums, and I like the last three Soundgarden albums. They have really talented musicians, but they make sub-par music. They just don't mix together though.

Audioslave has always sounded like Badmotorfinger-era Soundgarden to me.

Rage should have just hired Page Hamilton then have him reform Helmet like that.

As far as lyrics go, I've learned that no matter what you write people who can't write will hold you in awe.

i liked Soundgarden and RATM, but i do not like Audioslave.  by the end of Soundgarden's run i didn't like their sound anymore, and Chris Cornell starting sounding like a parody of himself, or something.  i don't know if that's right, it's hard to explain.

i like pretty much everything up to Badmotorfinger, plus a couple of songs after that.  but nothing of theirs really struck me as any good after Badmotorfinger.

in my opinion, Audioslave takes a past-prime Chris Cornell and pairs it with a "trying to rehash old RATM songs" RATM band.  very ordinary.

Maybe.

For the record, I don't like 'em. But then, I didn't like RATM that much, so a lower class clone isn't going to really ring my bells.

i guess that's what a lot of people are bummed about, Khar. Audioslave dosen't clone RATM in much of any way.
I do have to give Cornell respect for laying down a rule before signing on with the Rage boys: No Political Songs. i always like it when a celebrity openly sayd "i don't know enough about this stuff to share my opinion."

Would that really have hurt? I mean on the first album in particular RATM just picked a basic theme (Politicians are involved with the KKK, for example) and then padded it out with endless repetition and a sloganistic chorus with a tangential relation to the actual song itself. Although, their lyrics did get better as time went on, I must admit.

I lost any vestigial respect I had for R.A.T.M. when they allowed one of their songs to appear on the soundtrack to the "Godzilla" remake - a pointless waste of millions of dollars that could have been better spent, if ever there was one.  Pretty much the definition of selling out your principles right there.

Got to confess, I tried to erase all memories of that movie and everything to do with it as best I could.  But Rage Against the Machine with irony?  That demands to be seen (or heard) to be believed.

You have to wonder about that. Chris Cornell doesn't seem to have the ability to write something that isn't non-sensical, so would we even have known it was a political song if he had?

I don't think it would have mattered. Chris and the Rage boys just aren't good fit.

Am I like the only one who liked RATM? Cause I did....and I'd rather have RATM then Audioslave. Some of their songs are pretty good, but his vocals are just so...indifferent. He sings like he doesn't entirely care what hes singing about, which actually is why some people like Audioslave, unfortunately, it doesn't do anything for me.
