I wonder how Hanners would have responded if she'd been on board Apollo 8?

She'd have insisted on a Tom Collins. And she'd never have allowed Apollo 13 to happen.

Hi everybody!  Newbie here--I hope this doesn't count as "thread necrophilia."

I recently discovered Questionable Content via xkcd, got addicted, and blew through all the strips marathon-style over the course of 3 days...  a familiar tale, I'm sure! :-D  Aside from the wonderful writing, what really struck me was the development of mister Jacques' style over the course of the comic's run.  It's been years since I really put pen to paper with the intention of drawing anything, but after fast-forwarding through the evolution of QC from its humble beginnings to the stunning presentation it boasts today, I was super-inspired to start again.  The artist's love, dedication, and candor reminded me of why I used to draw in the first place, and how stupid I was to ever stop.  So thanks mister Jacques, this is dedicated to you. [/lifestory]

p.s. Before you freak out about the picture (too late? hee hee): I totally flubbed the right arm, but just could not bring myself to throw this away.  It's my first real drawing in forever--and of my absolute favorite QC character, no less!  Hence, the horrifying salvage job.  No creepy intentions, I swear!

Welcome new person!

First: I must ask, are you a good witch, or a bad witch?

Second: Of course it's not thread necrosomethingorother. The thread is stickied for a reason.

Third: Nice drawing.

Hee hee--yep, sure sucks for her

Ah, I will try to respond.

First:  I'm more of an aspiring mad scientist really!  But a nice one... chaotic good?  I don't know.  Did I just fail the test?

Second:  Whew.

Third: Thanks!  It's a hot mess, but the drawing means a lot to me... *tears stream down face while striking epic pose atop a mountain*  MISTER JACQUES I SALUTE YOU!

(^Sorry I watch too much weird anime)

Edit:  Also, thank you for the welcome!

The other threads seem kind of scurrrrreh so I think I'll stick to posting QC fanart for now.

Dicking around with the ol' tablet.  Her gnarly turkey-claw hand and vacant expression sort of reminded me of a zombie.

What do zombie hannelores hate the most?

Probably me, for that incredibly lame pun.

Man did she turn out creepy.

True that, though I was originally aiming for her long-haired acne-ridden incarnation--awkwardly introducing herself to her class, that kind of thing... but it looks like she got bit before I could give her pimples.   :-D

Heh, I guess it's better than the last attempt, where she turned into an octopus.

Reminds me of the old avatar I used, based on the comic where Marigold forgets Hanners is watching her play WoW, and lets one rip - all I did was photoshop in some blood in the mouth, and viola!

Zombie Hanners!

i think it is safe to conclude that almost all things are better with zombies. should that fail though, add cheese.

Wow, really nice!  Dora looks almost asian - I supose it's the angle of the eyes.  But you really  captured Marten, and I like your take on Faye - truly zaftig.

Also, nice watercolor technique - something that always frustrated me!

Awesome work jAAkarhu!  I really like the blocks of shadow on Faye, it's still tough for me to eyeball simple yet effective blocks of shadow like that.

Could you share a bit of your technique here?  The shirts look like traditional media but the hair looks digitally pen-tooled/airbrushed  :-D

Well, thanks everyone!
I did the outlines in pencil and then the coloring in photoshop. If I remember correctly I used the lasso tool for selecting the shadowy areas, except for Dora's sweater where I just did some random experimenting with that funny-looking brush. Also I used the smudge tool for the hair highlights.
That's pretty much it!

That's excellent. I think you've got the creepy-without-meaning-to-be-but-painfully-aware-of-it vibe that defines her.

Very touching, and Marigold only made 78. :(  I wonder how many of the gang are still around?

Somehow I'd have expected Momo to sit in seiza or kekkafuza with her hands in the classic gassho position in this situation, but I suppose cultural religious conditioning would be a different thing for her. Do robots pray to electric gods?

The cover of REM's album Monster looks a lot like the red eyes in the background.

Ah, right. I put "REM red eye" into Google and the only relevant hit seemed to be "Red-e-Rem is a freeware program for removing red eye from jpeg (jpg) encoded digital photos..."

Hence my confusion.
