Yep, if you could book any bands for it, who?

For me....

Children Of Bodom and Lamb Of God headlining.

From there....

At The Gates, Amon Amarth, Opeth, Bleeding Through, Mudvayne, and Lightning Bolt to break up the monotany.

That's just for metal though. I like too many chill bands to actually make a fest around them. ASMZ/GYBE, Mogwai, Iron And Wine, Tom Waits, Azure Ray, Bela Fleck and The Flecktones, Galactic, Particle, Buckethead and all his side projects, Les Claypool and all his projects, Clutch, Cursive, Dave Brubeck, Deerhoof, Del The Funkee Homosapien, Deltron 3030, Dr. Octagon, Busdriver, DJ Shadow, The Black Mages,  The Specials, The Skatalites, and I Am Spoonbender would all definitely be in there though.

Oh, and the band/artiste can be dead or alive, don't matta.

My dream music festival would be the kind that had a bunch of great artists I previously hadn't known were great.

It would be a weekend of getting completely blown away!

A concert made up by disbanded or dead bands or artists and one still kicking:

Joy Division
Gang of Four
Pink Floyd
Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Nick Drake
The Clash(just for Guns of Brixton, not really keen on anything else by them)
Leadbelly(curious that is all)
Ravi Shankar
and Mozart
oh and David rocking out on the harpe ;)
etc...

That was the exact lineup for the Windir farewell concert, after Valfar died.

damn right you do! oh and don't pay attention to all these nayseyers you'll find online that say their shows are blah and blah and blah... NOT TRUE! they are fucking brilliant

also, as to the main topic, well - i don't think i could deal with more than like 2/3 bands in night... so i'd have to say that i would pick something along the following lines:

Arcade Fire

and then

The Smashing Pumpkins

and then bliss

sweet bliss

first i'd get really stoned.  then i'd go out to a farm where john fahey had mysteriously come back to life and organized a concert, including:

no neck blues band
sunburned hand of the man
pelt (reunion)
jack rose
six organs of admittance
tower recordings (reunion)
growing
my cat is an alien
charalambides
fursaxa

and then for the final two acts i would get to see

jandek
john fahey

play live.  that would be a dream come true.

plus it'd all be outside and with cool people.  it'd be a blast.

I want to see the Pinback connection show, all the bands related to Pinback play and Pinback of course...3 Mile Pilot (they are coming back!), optigonally yours, thingy, heavy vegetable (both no more but they could do it somehow...), the solo projects, alpha males, and so on, but just relating to Zach and Rob since that will be enough already though sleeping people, Kenseth's band, is great and his older band Rumah Sakit aint bad either and the other related bands...just too many...

Yeah, I wanted to go to Gladefest, but i'll be too busy with moving out (I hope) starting a new job (I hope) around that time, so I thought i'd wait until next year for glade action, besides, I don't do drugs and the notion of an entire room where basically 4/5ths of it will be full of pill heads is something that I need to be in the mood to enjoy, cause sometimes when I go to drum and bass nights, they just fuck me off.

Now my dream show would be (in no particular order):
Bad Reigion
Rage Against the Machine
Rise Against
Propagandhi
Alkaline Trio
Led Zeppelin
Steppenwolf
Dropkick Murphys
Social Distortion

I'm going to see Rise Against and the Alkaline Trio for my birthday this year (fuck yeah!).

Mine is so painfully, painfully predictable that I nearly didn;t post it, but here goes -

Bright Eyes
The Faint
Interpol
The Arcade Fire
Smoosh
Rilo Kiley
Cursive (damn bands going on indefinite hiatus...grrrr)
Mirah
Trespassers William
Modest Mouse
The Dawn Parade
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Srokes
The Good Life (for added Kasher-ness)
Azure Ray
Tilly and the Wall
Le Tigre

I'd also ban those STUPID hats that people think are funny, and have food available for under £4. And nice loos.

Otherwise, I am looking forward to Swedish specialty Deadfest in September.

Just Pavement.  The show would be too long and would be less fun overall if I filled it with other bands that I like.  Maybe have Sebadoh open for them or something.  Pavement in a relatively small venue would rock my world though.

^ nice.

Dates in brackets indicate the time I would want to pluck the bands from (especially the split up and dead ones) for maximum awesomeness. Bands in descending order of appearance with dual headliners in bold at the bottom. Bands are ripping hot on each others heels, 9AM till finish, playing all my favourite tracks. Week long:

Xasthur
Burzum (1993, with guest musicians)

Theatre of Tragedy (1995)
Paradise Lost
Electric Wizard (2000)
My Dying Bride
Acid Bath (1996)
Type O Negative
Black Sabbath (1979)

In order that everyone does not get too depressed, there is an all-night mosh-pit playing the finest grind and death metal from 1985-present. In order.

Day 4 (We are making progress):

All Too Human
Nightingale
Alchemist
Genesis (1977)
Acid Rain
Symphony X
Pan.Thy.Monium

Finntroll
Bathory (1999)
The Clan Destined (Playing the full Skyclad back-catalogue as well, with Georgina Biddle on violin)

This is followed by all night folk music and heavy drinking session with Eläkeläiset, which does in no way whatsoever prepare us for:

Day 7 (bring a neck support, posers!):

Vicious Rumours
Tad Morose
Edguy
Stratovarious
Girlschool (1987)
Twisted Sister
Ozzy Osbourne (1981)
Dream Evil
Sabbat (1989)
Nightwish
DragonForce

Sounds good enough.

I was going to make it a whole two week affair, split up the folk and folk metal days, add a whole day of grind/brutal death and a whole day of decent old melo and prog-death, split up the symph black and true black days, maybe a two day history of hard rock starting off with the Rolling Stones and continuing to...ah crap. Rock is dead : (

Anyway, it was too much effort.

Without putting as much thought into it as Khar, my festival would probably include the following bands.. (in this order order)

Carpathian Forest
Demoncy
Horna
Behexen
Marduk
Kult Ov Azazel
Deathspell Omega
Watain
Sargeist
Tsjuder
Mütiilation
Corpus Christii
Nokturnal Mortum
Gontyna Kry
Von
Emperor
Absu
Averse Sefira

and co-headliners

Darkthrone
Venom
Mercyful Fate

NOTE:  Some of my favorite bands I didn't list on this, since I think they probably wouldn't be the same in concert as on CD. . namely, suicidal black metal like Xasthur, Abyssic Hate, Krohm, etc..

What these festivals are lacking are locations. So with that in mind...

Day 1

An abandoned church which has nonetheless remained in immaculate condition is found. Time for an all-night squat party to kick things off!

Bilge Pump
Lightning Bolt
Like A Kind of Matador
Mohinder
Oxes
Guapo
Stalingrad
Nina Nastasia
Robert Johnson
John Coltrane
Submission Hold
The Melvins
Fugazi

Visuals will be the best surrealist films and DJs throughout the night will be Team Doyobi, DJ/Rupture and Autechre

Day 2

Having been run out of the church by the police we're a little miffed and flee to the 1in12 club in Bradford. Luckily, there's some good old mosh to be had.

Good Clean Fun
Chain of Strength
D.S. - 13
Driven Down
Imbalance
HHH (UK)
Rites of Spring
Fig 4.0
Slayer
At The Gates
Gorilla Biscuits
Ramones
Minor Threat

DJs will be a variety of drunk punks and anyone that has some tunes they want played.

Day 3

Upon exciting the club we find that a desert has appeared just outside of Bradford. Handily a bunch of crusties have luxurious stolen Winnebagos and massive generators, so it's time to get down in the sand after a good kip.

Leadbelly
Meat Puppets
Lucero
Magma
Red Stars Parade
Will Haven
Muddy Waters
Charlie Parker
Tarantula Hawk
MC5
Johnny Cash
Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band
Kyuss

No DJs, but plenty of jazz, blues and rock being knocked out by people as they sit about watching the sun rise.

Day 4

Back into a city to lay our hands on yet another squatted venue, this time it's an underground car park. It's dark, grim, and the perfect setting for what's about to hit.

Jedi Mind Tricks
Urko
Anaal Nathrakh
Man Is The Bastard/Bastard Noise
Arab Strap
Acme
Dizzee Rascal
Wu-Tang Clan
Narcosis
Love Lost But Not Forgotten
Orchid
Dead Kennedys
Black Flag

Aphex Twin, Kid 606 and people spinning grind, noise and harsh music of all descriptions wind up the night.

Day 5

After that, a last day of much mellower feel is needed to round things off. So we adjourn to a field in some delightful woods and get our dancing shoes on.

All Girl Summer Fun Band
Billy Bragg (solo)
Mecca Normal
Black Eyes
The Sick Lipstick
Saetia
Manowar
Beat Happening
Pavement
Melt-Banana
AC/DC
Tom Waits
Minutemen

Man, I really am taking this work-avoidance to some lengths.

A Pack of Wolves has reminded me, one of my many ultimate ambitions in life is to buy an old church, mesh over the inside of the windows, install a murderously loud PA, a stage with the drum-stand on the desecrated altar, turntables up in the pulpit and rip out all the pews, then just hold some motherfuckingly awesome gigs in there.

They actually do hold amazing gigs in the Holy Trinity church here in Leeds. I saw Guapo, Circle, Jazzfinger, Birds of Delay and Like A Kind of Matador there, they all played up by the alter while the crowd sat in the pews. The atmosphere was incredible.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.
