More people should listen to music from anime shows. How can somone disagree with cheery Japanese Music?

More people should appreciate Moxy Fruvous.  I know I do.  Therein lies true happiness.  My friends and I were singing "King of Spain" forever!

I promise I'll check these out on monday on my lunch break.  I'm on my mom's computer, her husband is sleeping and for some reason when I plug headphones into the jack on this computer only one side will work.  That would not do these songs justice I am sure.

Ok, giving Skyclad a shot.  Thus far, I'm enjoying "Penny Dreadful" a great bit.  It just makes me insanely happy.  And I also LOVE the fiddle.  Also, the clip of "Helium" makes me want to hear the whole song....  I have a soft spot for happy songs about death.

Now to experiment with more suggested music, until my brain explodes...

That fact some Indie music gets talked about with words like "sexy" really makes me want to check that those bands aren't actually 90's boy bands.

There's no over groups of people that I can think of, apart from 8 year old girls and indie kids that claim to have a love of pop music.

If I was productive, I'd go and add to Khar's list, but it doesn't really need it and I'm lazy.

The Lawrence Arms probably. They're totally under-respected in my opinion. But this is all about personal taste.

The Lawrence Arms are great. A band that can get BETTER after signing onto Fat Records is one heck of a band.  The Broadways kicked ass too when they were together, as well.

I know many people on this thread know Iron&Wine, but not a lot generally speaking do. Sam Beam is great and deserves attention. Also a band called Buning Airlines (punk) really needs some credit. Give them a listen if you like things like Jawbox & At The Drive In, might enjoy them.

EDIT: I forgot a young fellow who goes by the name of Four Tet, sort of trip-hop style, amazing. Definately also deserves attention.

I could never get into Burning Airlines, although I do like a bit of Jawbox.

Signing to Fat isn't always a bad thing. Personally I thought 'As The Eternal Cowboy' was pretty much as good a record as 'Reinventing Axl Rose' so Against Me! managed it, although everyone tells me that Dillinger Four didn't.

Ah, Four Tet... question is, do I go see them or save money and watch Rapider Than Horsepower instead? I'm thinking Rapider.

YESS!

I have so much love for that band, what's even more surreal is that half of the old line up appear to have relocated to Brighton, I keep bumping into them...I haven't seen them in ages though (as a band, that is) after a falling out with Miss Black America, as both of those bands were like bossom buddies to each other...and appear to be cursed whenever they try and play Brighton...
Oh well.

And Khar, I actually listened to some Skyclad a while back on your recommendation, but...it did nothing for me.
What can I say? I'm a soft indie kid.
I'm sorry.

But, but, they have acoustic tracks and fiddles and HAMMOND ORGANS, they're about as hardcore as a little kitten! And it is chock-a-block with melancholy and social commentary, I thought you indie types would lap it up!

Quote
Land Of The Rising Slum

Show me a politician who's a man we can trust
And if I ever meet him then I think I'll have him stuffed
Look out of the window - see not one happy face
The only splash of colour's the graffiti 'round the place.

It's hard to even crawl
With your back up against the wall.
I find it hard to sleep at night
I feel that the worst is yet to come
Social helter-skelter
Ride the downward spiral has begun.
Are some people just born bad
Or is it how we all become?
Human termites driven mad
In the concrete mound of the rising slum.

The people who are dark fear the people who are fair
And hippies live in terror of the guys who have no hair
The saddest thing of all - what I really find grim
Is we haven't yet noticed what a mess we're all in.

It's hard to even crawl
Now your back's up against the wall.
I find it hard to sleep at night
I feel that the worst is yet to come
Social helter-skelter
Ride the downward spiral has begun.
Are some people just born bad
Or is it how we all become?
Human termites driven mad
In the concrete mound of the rising slum.

The "whether man" says that the outlook's not great
A few outbreaks of murder with some isolated rape
I ask my doctor his advice, this is what he says,
"Get yourself some cancer boy, before you die of aids."

It's hard to even crawl
With your back up against the wall.
I find it hard to sleep at night
I feel that the worst is yet to come
Social helter-skelter
Ride the downward spiral has begun.
Are some people just born bad
Or is it how we all become?
Human termites driven mad
In the concrete mound of the rising slum.

I mean, come on! Is it the brimming with righteous anger and rabid ecosensitivity?

A hombre of mine mentioned Tin Star once. Never heard em though.
I mentioned this in another post I think, but anyone who's a fan of indy, The Beatles, new wave, or pretty much anything on the side of rock that isn't distorted all the time should definately check out The Sugarplastic. It's kinda hard to find their stuff outside of LA, but you can probably get "Bang, The Earth is Round" or maybe even "Resin" online. But your chances of finding a copy of "Radio Jejune", their classic and most Pixies-esque indy album is nilch to nien (nein? I speaka no german).

Also, If you don't already, you should most definately listen to EELS. I love the Eels so damned much. If you're in the Europe, I seriously recomend catching them on tour, like, right now! I saw them at one of their warm-up shows in LA and they are AWESOME this tour.

And lastly, If you diggums the jazz, check out an album by Karl Denson called (Dance Lesson No. 2). It oozes groove. Like, the grooves are seeping out of Karl Denson faster than the intelleigence from the US government.

the ep version of "such the fool" was miles better than the album version i'll admit but maybe listening to the album has converted me somewhat to their new style.

they were much better the first time i saw them though they may not of been as good the second time due to the fact that one of the singers mikee was so stoned i could barely get a mumble out of him after the gig~

I saw that ex-Earthtone 9 band The Blueprint recently who really reminded me of that whole mid-to-late-90s era. They headlined an all-dayer but I have no idea why they got booked because the crowd was largely made up of hardcore types, and they rather predictably tanked embarrassingly. Whoever thought they'd be able to follow Narcosis must have been crazy.

Pack of Wolves - I'm something of a novice to kitschy pop, being as most of my music is inherently depressing, BUT...
The Kitsch list at the moment is:
Pipettes (mentionedd already)
Tilly and the Wall (none of my mates know them, but it seems they're pretty popular on here - they have a tap dancing drummer, so it's impossible not to love them!)
Kenickie (sadly, they've been and gone, shouty girl rock/pop, they sang songs about PVC and going out and getting drunk. They were amazing)
Smoosh (a 10 and 12 year old playing the best kind of songs, everyone should investigate them, they epitomise good pop)

And maybe some Beulah, Park Ave (if you can cope with Conor Oberst's involvement), Melys (a bit indie-fied, but a lush welsh band), Kimya Dawson (one half of Moldy Peaches, and, unlike Adam Green, is not a knob), Surferosa (a bit more brash, sort of electo-ish) and Younger Younger 28s...

Wow. I didn't realise quite how much of this stuff I had.
