Simple Plan and Good Charlotte, or any of the new pop punk bands. I mean, damn, I'd like to be more open midned, but they just look and sound like idiots. They just sound way to friggin' pop(ish), it's like someone formed a boy band, but decided to give them instruments to.

It's not often you can say that the scene literally killed the band...

Metal-Emo Metal-Punk Grind-anything pretty much all metal fusions with other music. Used an excuse to sing like shite while removing what makes either genre good.

Evanescence aren't metal. Or goth. But that's quite beside the point.

Very true, they aren't either of those but I do have an irrational like of them. My ex and I even went to see them back in 03 and it turns out a friend of my bfs was at the same gig so they can't be that unpopular (though the number of 12 year old girls dressed IDENTICALLY to Amy Lee was quite pathetic but it was the same with the 12 year old boys at the HIM concert I went to last year)

I think Evanescence are okay. Their singer is quite good at singing. That guy with the beard who plays guitar is annoying though.

I hear a HIM concert is just like a sea of heads that come up to your chest, gently bouncing.

I also have no real objection to Evanescense, though I don't think I'd choose to listen to them or buy an album. They strike me as a more mainstream Lacuna Coil. And Lacuna Coil are pretty good, I've seen 'em live.

The HIM concert did kinda look like that but I went for the music not the audience and I was on the balcony. Evanescence, I prob wouldn't have bought their album but my ex bought it as a guilty pres for standing me up one day and I kind of ended up getting into them. I dout I'd see HIM again, as I was one of the eldest there and at the time I was 16 S

Edit: whats the best Lucana Coil album, my b'days coming up and one of their cd's is on the list but I don't know which one..help me :) This is off topic so PM me with the answer or this'll end up lock'd

I guess I have an irrational hate of speed metal or any other metal with screaming. It's weird because I like albums like Irony Is A Dead Scene and Chaosphere, but most times anything with screaming I'll skip.

....What? Speed/Thrash stuff uses Clean vocals. Might not be the best in the world and some might get a little high, but contasting screaming isnt a straight Thrash thing.

Chaosphere...which one? There's four Metal bands called that as far as I know.

Considering that 'Irony Is A Dead Scene' is the name of the Dillinger Escape Plan/Mike Patton collaboration CD, I think he meant the Meshuggah album named 'Chaosphere'.

Yeah I meant it like speed metal and any other metal with screaming.

And yeah, I was referring to the Meshuggah album.

It was a very vague post. My bad.

I despise conor oberst.  I don't know what it is about him, not really his music, just him.  I was either born with an irrational hatred of him, or I have become obsessed with the idea of fighting him.  I want to fight him, I think it would be hilarious.

I think it would be funny to fight Billy Corgan too... but I really like Siamese Dream, so I probably won't do that.

And just to stay on the topic of fighting musicians, I would relish the opportunity to face off my crew against My Chemical Romance.  Not only is their music horrible, but their appearance... GOD!!! The first time I saw them I thought the were a joke (thought they started their band and did their make up that way as a joke).  Ever since I found out my assumption was incorrect, I have wished for their demise.

a brawl between Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson, the girl in the white stripes and the donnas would be pretty awesome too, but only if all of them were injured to an extent that prevented them from ever performing "music" again.

ok, that is enough of that.  I am going to stop listening to Radiohead now.

First off I would love to slap Conor Oberst like the little bitch that he is.
I would also love to kick the crap out of the guys from Sum 41.
And after the new single someone needs to beat up Jack White.

I totally agree, except some of their early stuff was decent...the latest one is complete crap though.

Other band that I disdain.....Tokyo Smash....not sure if anyone on here has heard them, they are "Hardcore"....as much a joke as that entire "scene" is, everyone in my state seems to love them even though the singer sounds like a bunch of cats in a burlap sack being flogged with a board full of rusty nails.

MCR were way better when they sung songs about vampires and murderers and shooting up liqour stores. I picked up their first album year and a half or so back, and thought it above average for an emo band, especially in the amount that I liked them. I even went to see them when they swung through my nearest city on their first European tour.

Now they're on the front of Kerrang more than Slipknot! And their new album also happens to be very cliche and suckerific. I don't know how people can honestly bring themselves to listen to 'I'm not Okay (I Promise)'.

1) Khar, I highly disagree. MCR's new album puts them in the same league as moneen and Alexisonfire, in that it's so far, musically, past emo as to almost be a genre unto itself. Their first album was crap.

2) Conor Oberst is awesome. Yes, this is coming from a guy. I will hear no words spoken against his lyrical (though, admittedly, sometimes cliched) prose, nor will I hold any trucks with complaints about the actual music, which tends to be awesome and inspired to the point of being heart-rendingly cool. And as far as the "depressed" thing goes, well, nobody ever bought a Morrissey album or Dylan's Blood On The Tracks expecting sunshine and flowers, but they's still good.

I'd like to agree with Alexisonfire and MCR being far away from emo. I'm not really sure you can say they have their own genre though, as I remember MCR sounded like bad pop-rock (I hasten to add, I have nothing against pop-rock per se), and my flatmate played me an Alexisonfire album and it was very 'metal band with wonky singing bits and a lack of originality no.100689'. As my friend Ewan says: 'I like metal, and I like cheesy pop. But I don't see the need to combine them'. Maybe I should give MCR another listen though, perhaps I've had them all wrong if you reckon they're so ahead of the game.

Oh, Khar...
I have a feeling that going through today's messageboard may be like seeing your friends for the first time after a hugely messy party and having them remind you how many of them  you drunkenly pulled/were sick on...
How's your head feeling?

In other news, I have to add the Suffrajets to the list of bands I can't stand - I picked up a single of theirs for 25p as they had a fun name, and it was terrible - kind of like a 4th rate Kittie, who I can't stand anyway. Now the bird who left Babyshambles has joined, everyone's excited about them again, and they're still utterly shite.

U2 did some nice stuff in the 80s, but those memories have been pushed to the back of my mind by images of Bono prancing around in those stupid glasses, and all of those dreadful singles in the late 90s that polluted the airwaves for months at a time.

I have to second KharBevNor's comments on MCR. Their first album fucking rocked. Songs about vampires and pieces of skull falling on tongues like pixie dust are awesome. The new album? Pure crap. They cut out most of the sweet imagery (and meedly-meedly) from the first album in order to become more like the other pop-punk filth that the kids buy these days. Bad choice guys.

As far as irrational hatreds go: Dashboard, Bright Eyes, Saves The Day, Brand New...I could go on but it would be pointless. There's plenty of music I don't like.

Awwww..there are worse bands than the kaisers, even though they're really getting on my tits now, so I see where you're coming from.

I think I hate pretty much every band in existence at the moment, I'm just getting sick of every guitar/haircut combo EVER...

I think this is what's known as becoming jaded.
Plus, it's the Wednesday ritual of reading the NME, so that depresses me as it contains approximately no bands that I like.

Maybe you should stop reading the NME. You'll probably feel a lot better about the world of music. Don't worry too much though, every time I get jaded with things a new band will fall into my lap who get me all excited again. You just need new tunes!
