Dave Matthews - I just don't see the appeal. He's like Bob Dylan without the lyrical genius.

The Smashing Pumpkins - Freshman year college roommate listened to them nonstop.

Almost all hip-hop/rap, especially "gangsta". I see videos with this dude in a mansion with palm trees, wearing a heavy fur coat in the hot tub, surrounded by women in bikinis. Thing is, it's his first album. Where'd he get the money for that? I can't wait for that fucking genre to fall into the sea of obscurity, but I'm afraid that after it does, it'll be back in 20 years as "oldies".

to be honest, I like avril lavigne and Blink 182.
I'd never buy they're albums, but if it's playing, I can appreciate the music, because, for some bizarre reason, Avril's lyrics sound like they really are things she's felt/thought about, despite it all being cheesey teen drivel (but that's her audience anyway? who gives a shit?) And Blink 182 used to be awesome, then they sucked, now they're...interesting, but not good. So, I like the spirit of old Blink182, before they turned into THE BAND of 'skaters'....and while I'm ranting, what is up with skaters? They're all about grafitti and crud now, apparently, and from what I remember, grafitti was all about hiphop...the world is changing.

Damn, I didn't know so many people hated the smashing pumpkins. They were my favorite band in the world when I was like 14. I even got to meet Billy Corgan this year (I worked at the studio where he was recording his new disc). It was rad!

I saw Zwan play...and I liked smashing pumpkins and still do but I just have found so much better music, can't even remember the last time I listened to one of their songs *shrugs* Zwan was a great idea, it was almost a complete reversal in attitude to something positive where this icon of young people's melancholy could maybe have some influence on young people to not get further into dreariness...whether that was their goal or not you can't change the times or the angst of teenagers. Also over all the quality fell short. Everything I said is debatable but there's my opinion from off the top of my head.

Hate Simple Plan, U2, Dashboard Confessional, Avril Lavigne, My Chemical Romance, The Used (INCREDIBLY over-rated around here, and I have NO idea why), The Darkness (late 70's called, they want their shitty music back), Dido, Enya, Hootie and the Blowfish, Junior Senior, Justin Timberlake, Maroon 5, Matchbook Romance, Senses Fail, Story of the Year, The Cure.

Others I just kinda dislike :

Evanescence...meh...I think Amy has a good enough voice to be doing something better than singing with that band...and the band itself does some really neat stuff (listen to "Eternal" from the Origin album)...but Evanescence as it is really sucks.

New Found Glory...I used to be too annoyed by them to listen...the guys voice was just... blegh. But I got to see a live recording and they sounded almost as good as an album recording...and the music video for "All Downhill From Here" was awesome, so they get SOME points for that.

Sum 41 used to really piss me off, but I thought they were on to something good with a few songs from their new album ("Chuck").

Actually "Nasville Star" (kind of like American Idol for country singers), is actually good. They require that their contestants be songwriters as well as singers, which, in my opinion, is the reason they get a better caliber of contestants. I'll actually watch that one if there's nothing else on.

Every single person who got a record deal from American Idol should be shot though. They all suck my mom's ass.

Out of all the nimrods, My Chemical Romance first, I have an actual irrational hate for them.

I would like to mention that though I hate them now, My Chemical Romance used to be my actual favourite band, the first album was so fucking rad, I was even enthuisastic about their second coming album, until I heard I'm Not Okay, the most sorriest excuse for a pop/punk wine ever...now I can't escape my shadow, (I make my own T-Shirts, I'm not sure if its illegal...), all these people, (I live in a small town in mid-Texas) are like, hey your that guy who likes MCR, me too! WE should be goth-buddies. I have to express my musical frustration...They where such a sincerly good band, who kicked major ass, (sort of indie-ish might I add) but then these fuckin' retards had to sign to Reprise (worst label ever..), now neo-death music is dead to me.
I have a feeling the man is also planning to ruin Flaming Lips once and for all, or so I've heard.

I just can't stand Billy's voice...and his lyrics don't really interest me.

In other news: I also hate Evanescence. I loved the version of 'My Immortal' which featured no guitar or drums...the one with the orchestra, and then I heard the album, and the whole thing was immitatey woopdedoo shit. nothing new.

Also: I am probably going to get lynched for saying this, but I HATE Nirvana. Most overrated band ever, apart from Led Zepplin. Jeepers...

Man, I actually like Evanescence. It's one of the few bands that my friends and I agree on. Amy Lee has one of the most beautiful voices I've heard in a long time. And she sings in her range, which makes her better than quite a few female vocalists out there.

Then again, it seems I like a lot of stuff people here say they hate. So maybe I just have crappy taste in music in your eyes.

It's not so much that we're morbid, it's just that some of us devote the majority of our time on cultivating our musical snobbery, so that when someone comes along with an individual opinion that in someway is out of line with our inherent beliefs that certain bands are terminally shite, we naturally react rather badly as it shatters our fundmental ideas to the core...

Theater of Tragedy....Death/Doom...that works. Goth Metal....that works...but they sound horrible doing any of it. And now they're a techno pop band and sound like Ace of Base and it's all so vert wrong from a band that should have been at least average.

Oh, and much as I like screeching Dani's is rubbish and Cradle are really dull musically. But apparently they're all thoroughly lovely blokes, so I'm always quite happy they've done so well.

But anyway. I used them as an example. There are many many bands I could name.

@Khar: I bet you'd hate most of the music I listen to. All of friends love Cradle of Filth so I have been subjected to years of listening to them. The only songs I remotely like are 'Mannequin' and 'Amor e Morte', but otherwise I'd be happy to destroy every CD they've ever published. Yeah, they probably are lovely blokes/their music is 'from the heart' and whatnot, but that doesn't mean I have to like them.
