*Reads some Converge lyrics*

...Have you guys tried emo? Seriously, if that's the kind of thing we're trumpeting here. Not even particularly impressive either. Funeral for a Friend are better from what I remember.

I mean, eat old Cradle of Filth:
Quote

The Queen of Winter:
"Seduction, my obsessive art
A pantheon of tragedies inscribed upon the stars
Like thistled ruin, garbed around thy heart
Bacchanal Cinderella, desirious midnight passed
Leaving thee as sacrifice asleep within my arms
'Midst dreams od robed redemption versed in sexual aftermath
When we ebb as tides together, carnal souls entwined
And orgasms expire, come puppet wires and the blind!"

Fires work in me
A lithe supremacy
I tear asunder heaven as I would all enemies
Impaler Lord
Flesh upon the sword
My lower lusts are sated, the greater herald war

I am thirst, spearheaded hunger
Sacrament and pain
Nails raked in savagery
When the cruel Countessa came...

Exalt!
The Queen of death-white winter enthroned
Evil resplendent, in dusk red seething skies
Foam-flecked nightmares drag a moon
Of Draconian design

A love that never dies
Nefarious silhouettes to rise

When stars fall pale
And to drown back in Her eyes
Is to madden ghosts within
To unhinge a thousand sins
From Death's dark vale"

[22:25] Dovey: i don't get sigquoted much
[22:26] Dovey: like, maybe, 4 or 5 times that i know of?
[22:26] Dovey: and at least one of those was a blatant ploy at getting sigquoted

What bands have the best lyrics overall, in your opinion.

Sheer Terror

Buddy, you put Sheer Terror up for everything.  I mean they're cool and all and Paul Bearer is a good guy etc.  But come on.  You're not one of those fanboys who used to follow Paul around like sheep at Local 186 are you?

Just screwing with you.

I'm obligied to list the Clash here.  Anyone who can use truncheon in a song just wins this contest (i.e. London Calling).

I will admit, I have a problem.  You may have noticed that the second band I listed was Joe Coffee, which is Paul's new band.  What can I say, his lyrics are the perfect blend of hatred and sensitivity.

To add some more bands:
Type O Negative was listed by some others, I have to agree
Hudson Falcons.  Their lyrics can be a little goofy because Mark Lind isn't exactly a scholar, but politically their pretty dead on.  Great mix of liberalism and American pride.  I like that.  Also has the requisite, excellent drinking songs.
Pogues

Additionally, Stars and Stripes are either brilliant or incredibly stupid.  I'm pretty sure it's the former, because although Choke is an ass, he seems like a somewhat intelligent human being.  They're like the Manowar of Oi!, taking every cliche of the sub-genre and absolutely running with it.  It's like a deadpan parody/homage that I think is pretty funny.  Of course, I could be reading too much into it, and Choke is serious, in which case the lyrics are moronic.

Hee hee, I had forgotten about Stars and Stripes, I had “Shaved for Battle” in college, no idea what happened to it.  There was some fun stuff on that.  “Doc Martin Army” was very reminiscent of the Exploited’s “Barmy Army”.

Elvis Costello has some really great lyrics.

Big Black has some really disturbing lyrics.

Type-O is awesome.  My wife says her theme song is by Type-O

My favorites include Skinny Puppy.
Infact, I like Skinny Puppy's enough to have made a comic about! :)
