I call it dull and boring. I never said "soulless", and the comment was clearly part of the tongue in cheek section.

Beck wouldn't have Soul if he was part of Motown. Again not totally serious, but I can't stand Beck. Black Metal has more soul to see. Singing of the Pagan/Viking history and the pride in it.

Yes, I will continue to take the piss out of Indie until I die. Because it's terrible. And because it's copying Black Metal trends (AStruge proved this, thank you very much before you start).

Singing about something they care about works for me though.

Although you won't do it, I would like you to download 'Bathory - One Rode to Asa Bay', 'Forefather - Proud to be Proud' or 'Ancient Rites - (Ode to Ancient) Europa' and then say that.

As someone who counts pagan/folk/viking metal as probably their favourite musical genre, your generalisations really offend me. I mean, beyond the level of you not liking my music, I actually feel quite hurt.

Heh, I have Norwegian heritage, and really that's only a step away from full on Viking.

Folk music of all sorts is pretty neat... but I'm unsure of that Finntroll you posted, good sir. Not that it's bad, just so far out of my comfort zone in music that it'll take a while to get used to.

I would like to point out that I'm only descended from the Vikings distantly through my Norman ancestry. I'm more Anglo-Saxon with a broad Celtic streak. They have metal for that too ^_^ Go metal!

I've not heard of Native North American metal, or Chinese Metal. African metal's at a bit of a dearth too, most countries only have one or two bands. Indian (Vedic) and Japanese metal are two suprising ones though. Few things beat the wierdness of Sigh's 'Victory of Dakini' or Abigail's 'Hail Yakuza'

I had a friend like that, who just liked fairly bad mainstream metal... got him into Acid Bath and from there he progressed nicely into "better" metal, and into some other decent stuff like Marcy Playground, Sublime, and Bob Marley.  Start with just some basic alternative stuff that nearly everyone loves like Cake.

And I don't know anyone who likes the Decemberists that doesn't like the Postal Service... nearly everyone can appreciate them.
