I have been a Goldfinger fan for a while. I like a lot of new bands, but I still consider them my favorite band by default. Their newest CD is ok, it was kind of disapointing, but I'm still listening to it. I listened to Stomping Ground the other night for the first time in a while, and I still like it. But basically I'm just wondering your thoughts about them.

I miss Ska Goldfinger.

The new album has 2 skaish tracks with horns, but they are to slow and one is about being vegan or something.

I liked Hang-Ups, and "Superman" was one of the first rock songs I really liked.

Hang Ups was indeed a good record, but alas I lost my copy. I also have their self-titled on tape somewhere. But the new stuff is just bleh. They should just quit, old dudes playing pop-punk is kind of creepy. Like the Vandals or something. Ugh.

I have to agree, actually: Goldfinger was the opening act at the first rock concert I ever saw, and they performed "Superman" sans brass, and none of them even attempted to, like say the Weakerthans or something, sing/play the trumpet line. It broke my tiny, pop-punk loving heart.

I was listening to the new CD, and nothing really stuck out. It's a also tribute to how much I disliked the cd before that that I can't even remember the name of it anymore. (Open Your Eyes or somesuch thing?) Stomping Ground was alright -- I wasn't particularly thrilled with it, but it wasn't bad, per se. I gave it a "Meh" rating on my scale of "Pwn" to "Suck". Now, Hang-Ups was excellent. I still listen to it on occasion, despite rarely listening to that type of music anymore. It's one of the few cds that I'll listen to start to finish without wanting to skip any of the songs at all. And the self-titled CD was pretty good too, althought not as great as Hang-Ups.

Anyway...yeah, essentially, I like older Goldfinger rather than newer Goldfinger. The quality seems to have diminished.

I used to like Goldfinger more, but they're now the picture of mediocrity. It's kind of depressing.

Eh, kinda. I was never big on them in the first place, but they were pretty good.

I liked them when they weren't militant vegan dumbasses.

They became militant vegans? That surprises me, I had one of their albums years ago when I was keen on the whole ska-punk thing and all I remember was poppy songs about girls. Is their veganism as good as 'Meat Free Anthem (For A New Tomorrow)' by the Propagumbhis though? Now that's a ska-punk tune I still enjoy.

I was a huge Goldfinger fan up through Stomping Ground. Then Open Your Eyes came out and there was all this militant veganism that appeared in the liner notes and the video extras on the cd. So even though the title track was really the only song about veganism on there, the whole album was really dragged down by it. I decided to give them one more chance with Disconnection Notice. Too bad I wasted my money. Not only is the vegan propaganda still there, the songs are bland and a poor attempt at making a band of 40-somethings pop-radio friendly. John Feldmann should stick to producing for crappy pop-punk bands and not worry about trying to get Goldfinger back on the radio.

their ska stuff is great.  but their newer stuff sucks.  they have a great ska cover of "i love you more today than yesterday" by spiral staircase.  other than that, i like the song spokesman they do.
