Nope.  Discovered Good Omens later, which in turn made introduced me to Gaiman.

But you have no idea how hard Eric was to find again!  But I suppose that's what layovers in England are for... to pick up books!

That is good then.  I was almost thinking of rereading Good Omens again already.

True!  The best time to find books is when you least expect to, I think.

I've had the usual in the way of music tragedies.  Some stuff stolen and other stuff lost.

anywho, to quickly get off that topic.  most of my musical tragedies are shameful phases i have gone through in my search for good tunes.  most of them are entirely too embarrassing to admit to a bunch of random intarweb strangers such as yourselves.  actually, make that all of them.  NONE SHALL HEAR THE MYSTERIES!! I've been pretty lucky about loss, theft and destruction of my record collection so far. Someone did once half-inch my copy of 'Peloton' but I replaced that really fast. My only tragedies have been tapes. The loss of mix my sister gave me one birthday that was stolen by one of my dickhead ex-flatmates, which had an amazing cover of 'Ace of Spades' done by a man she met at a pub lock-in on the banjo as well as the theme from Button Moon, still pains me. Seriously, I know that cover sounds ridiculous but it was actually excellent. Also, the great mixtape an ex made for me which snapped. It had a song by Smoke on it, that's how good it was.

Oh, I completely forgot the mix tapes my friend Dani made for me.  Along with some awesome music I don't know how to trace, she took poems written by her and a friend and composed music to them and sang the words.  That's irreplaceable!

WHO DOES THAT? I never thought parents actually took music away from their children.  I listened to Misfits when I was 15, my parents just said the music sucked.  Wow, you poor child, even if the band's not great (by which I mean bad), you should still have all your cds! *hug*

But still, awful as it is, I find it funny, simply because of the thought that such people exist.

Er....thanks, I think? =pouts= I'm /still/ an avid Thursday fan, and like it or not, Geoff Rickly is an unhealthy-looking, thin, almost emaciated GOD of scremo.

Okay, so I'm a little obsessed. But I found the CDs, so tragedy averted---whiny, pretentious crap or not.

Thursday are a good band. War All the Time was a bit emo for my liking but Waiting is a good album with some fantastic songs and a really interesting sound, and Full Collapse is just one of the best records ever made.

Second'd!

Full Collapse... =drools=

And Five Stories Falling, even if the only original track on the whole durned thing was 'Jet Black New Year'. That song /alone/ was worth the twenty bucks Sunrise charged me. There is simply no denying that they have talent, though I will agree with you about "War All The Time". It was a bit more emo than their other albums.

Lookin' forward to a new one in the future!

((To be completely off-topic, this is my fiftieth post. I've only been here for like, two weeks. Y'think I'm talking too much?))

That and the stories in the liner notes. I borrowed it off a friend, and actually wrote Geoff's story out in full before I gave it back. Though I'm not sure it's worth $20!

/That/ was a tragedy if I've ever seen one, 'cause I never wrote it out.

I lent someone my copy of De-Loused In The Comatorium and she has no idea where it is. Oh well.

In an opposite vein, a friend of mine lent me his copy of Age Of Empires II and proceeded to move and not give me his new address. Oops.

GASP!!! HEATHENS!!! anyone who thinks the Chronicles should be taken from children should have their soft burny flesh burned, with fire and burning!

anywho, on topic.  i went through a phase in early high school (and i'm dating myself here) where i listened to... le sigh... Ace of Base.

well, there it is. there are others, but i'll have to think for a bit to compile a list.  on the upside, i also had Metallica and Nirvana in my repertoire at the time.  it was a very experimental period for me.

I went camping in eastern washington and every CD I ever owned was stolen out of my car... I had to start from scratch... over 100 CDs... it was... AWESOME... especially since alot of them were irreplacable mixes that friends had made me, a couple of whom I no longer have contact with.... I should have been more careful... *kicks self in the kidneys*

Hrm... let's see... I had a bunch of CDs and cases in my backpack, which was stolen from me while at university. I had put it down for just a few seconds, and turned my back, and it was gone... pretty recent all this...

What CDs you ask? Arcade Fire, Funeral, autographed; Flashlight Brown (canadian indie-punk-ska-rock type band), My Degeneration, autographed; Modest Mouse, The Moon And Antarctica, autographed, as well as Good News; Alexisonfire, Alexisonfire and Watchout; Mars Volta, Deloused in the Comatorium; The Brat Attack ('nother Canadian band, sorta hardcore punk), From This Beauty Comes Chaos And Mayhem; and Protest The Hero (another canadian hardcore punk band), A Calculated Use Of Sound. Obviously, the biggest loss was Arcade Fire, Flashlight Brown, and Modest Mouse, but I also had textbooks and my Alexisonfire shirt in the bag too... not to mention that it was a $200 courier bag... What a kick in the nuts O.o

-Jeridus... lamenting, I am...

Uhh, the only music *loss* I can recall was losing my CD for Creed's 'Human Clay'

yesIknowtheysuckandthesingerisamoronBUT

I have since moved on, and can agree with the sentiment that my tastes prior to my own moves to discover new things was a terrible period, of terrifying things that shall not be named.

Except for Creed.

Which is probably enough as it is.

Woo! Thursday!

EDIT: Oh yeah, and getting the mumps the weekend I was due to see LCD Soundsystem and Maximo Park play The Cockpit in Leeds on their first UK tour (LCD's, that is), thereby being unable to move from my bed to get the train back to Leeds to see them. I will forever regret that. Will have to settle for future tours and Reading festival...

And for some inexplicable reason not buying tickets to see System of a Down at the London Astoria (capcity ~1500-2000?) despite having the funds and the time. I am fucking retarded.

When I heard some band on the radio late at night and memorized the chorus to the song but never located it.  It was a blissful song, totally amazing, the best thing you could expect to hear on commercial radio anyway.  It was bluesy with some kind of banjo thing going on and the lyrics seemed to be about. . .a train?  I don't know.  I can barely remember it now and I'll probably never find it.  Reminds me of the episode of Pete & Pete where Little Pete found "his song" but at the end could only remember a single chord.  Utter tragedy.

The worst thing that's happened to me is that a friend borrowed my Brand New cd (My Favorite Weapon) and has a shity memory, so every day in homeroom we have the same exact conversation, which consists of me asking him where my cd is and him telling me that it's still at his house. It really sucks when you have the worst urge to listen to a certain cd and can't because someone else has it.

I really think I'd die if anyone actually stole my cd's. But now I'm more into using purevolume instead of cd's when I'm at home, so I might lve.

meh. If I didn't miss it for the music, I'd miss it for the sentamental value, my brother bought it for me for my 18th birthday when I was stuck somewhere in Maryland and was many miles away from all of my friends.

But I will admit that my music does kind of suck. But I like it. Care to p.m. me some suggestions of good music? I'm trying to broaden my horizons, as corny as that sounds, and as long as I can find it on purevolume I'll listen to it.

Pseudo-musical, but super tragedy.
My friend was going to buy Wilco Tickets to a show that I was sure was sold out.  And it was. However, there were also Mitch Hedberg Tickets on sale, the comedian of whom I am a huge fan. My friend came to school the next day and said that he hadn't bought me the tickets because "he didn't want me to go to the show alone."

That was the last time he preformed in Los Angeles before he died. I will never ever forgive my friend. Ever.

When I was in grade 5, someone stole my 'best of Weird Al: Volume 2' casette, which had the non-album song 'headline news' which was funny. Thus I was sad, because it was my favourite.

My second horror story: My girlfriend likes Nirvana.
What a horrible, scary story.

edit: there are no good rock-oriented bands online. I have only ever discovered good electronic music online, but never have I heard any kind of good rock type music on any site like purevolume.

1) the first time my harddrive crashed and I lost all my mp3s. i had a crap load of spanish punk that I have yet to be able to find again (this was 4 years ago) and lost about 8,000 songs.

2) the second time my harddrive crashed and I lost another crapload of hard to find music. lost about 4,000 songs.

3) most recently when my ex sat on my Jawbreaker AND Cursive cd's and broke 'em in half. *sobs*

I'm blessed in this department, actually. The only things worth mentioning are:

1. When I accidentally dropped 'Känn Ingen Sorg För Mig, Göteborg' and its cd casing broke.

2. When my The Plan cd got a scratch on it, resulting in me not having heard Rock My Boat in approximately three years (was the track even called that? Deary me, my memory is failing. Again.).

As I said, I've gotten away easily.
