Who knows if this thread has already been here.
I don't know, do you?

'be exactly who you want to be, do what you want to do.
I am he and she is she but you're the only you.
No one else has got your eyes, to see the things you see.
Its up to you to judge your life, and my lifes up to me.
The problems that you suffer from, are problems that you make.
The shit we have to climb through is the shit we choose to take.
If you dont like the life you live, change it now its yours.
Nothing has effect if you dont recognize the cause.
If the programmes not the one you want, get up, turn off the set.
It's only you that can decide what life you're going to get.
If you don't like religion you can be the antichrist.
If you're tired of politics you can be an anarchist.'
-Big A, Little A-Crass-

I'm sure you get the picture.
I'll be adding more as I think of them.

I ain't no god damn son of a bitch. You better think about it baby.
Misfits - Where Eagles Dare

What happened to all the battles and rivalries
Where is all that conflict and energy?
It's not the same
Now it's all that "he say, she say", It's bullshit man
I want to hear stories of people getting kicked downstairs,
Headfirst again
Don't want to talk it out
Come and fight
Fight me

"There's still plenty of poisonous fish in the sea
Rich with more complexes than Vitamin B
When trawling for arseholes, you'll net a fine catch
With skulls full of sawdust: Well I've got the match!"
Skyclad - On With Their Heads!

"DJ's, VJ's, pimps and trollops,
never mind music - This is bollocks!"

"Stand your ground behind the times,
And refuse to follow fashion,
rhyme your poetry with anger,
and then sing it with a passion!"
Skyclad - Penny Dreadful

"I'm lighter than air! I haven't a care!
Yet still gravity pulls me under.
Credibility gaps - gullibility fills,
They were bringing me down, no wonder!
Square pegs, round holes, last dregs, own goals
Monkey puzzle my fist won't fit inside
Every day nothing new, black and white deja-vu,
Makes me feel I wanna spread my wings and glide..."
Skyclad - Helium

"The "whether man" says that the outlook's not great
A few outbreaks of murder with some isolated rape
I ask my doctor his advice, this is what he says:
"Get yourself some cancer boy, before you die of aids."
Skyclad - Land of the Rising Slum

"To the drowning I am water
For your calm I am the storm
I'm the fiend who's with your daughter
In bed well before the dawn.
Was I the cat that got the bird?
They'll put the blame on me
Everything was grand in wonderland
Till Charles Manson came to tea."
Skyclad - The Wickedest Man in the World

"I know there is a price I must pay for my thirty years misspent,
when my satanic manager recoups my soul (100%).
I'll meet him at the crossroads, midnight chimes - my time has come
to party with the 'porno-queens' down by the shores of acheron.

I'll party on in acheron!"
Skyclad - A Great Blow For a Day Job

"I've had a bellyful of emptiness
I've got a pocketful of nothing at all
In real-life fairy tales the frog stays a frog
And the serving girl can't be the belle of the ball.

You're not the belle of the ball!
Get back in your cinders and CRAWL!"
Skyclad - A Bellyful of Emptiness

"Words of "the Worm":
"Don't be afraid - just take my hand
'cause life's too short to be a bore
Try it once, you'll understand
Why they keep coming back for more."
Form an orderly line outside death's door
If you want to taste his sweet amnesia
He's never short of clientele
Though most of them die from a fatal seizure!
Another mother cries to a chat-show host
(she speaks - my stomach churns)
I hear how a young kid - now a young ghost
Died a sickening death in "the Womb of the Worm.""
Skyclad - The Womb of the Worm

"A spirit sent to haunt you
taunting all your earthly days.
Satyrs vaunt cavorting
to the reel Cernunnos plays.
I head our wild procession
(every beast from man to mouse),
finds freedom in possession
Polkageist is in the house!"
Skyclad - Polkageist

"Life's an education - a multiple equation,
everybody finds their own solution in the end.
"To be or not to be" is a very lengthy question,
has somebody please got a sharpened pencil they can lend?"

"The Law of Relativity - (life's relative misery).
The Law of Probability - (it's probably contrived).
Newton's Law of Gravity - (we face a grave reality).
The Law that runs the jungle - (only the strong survive)."
Skyclad - History Lessons

Monosource'd, and I didn't even break into The Clan Destined or Sabbat lyrics. Hell, I didn't even use all the decent Skyclad quotes. I'll save every other band in the universe so I can post again in this thread later.

In a little hilltop village, they gambled for my clothes
I bargained for salvation an' they gave me a lethal dose.
I offered up my innocence and got repaid with scorn.
"Come in," she said,
"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Bob Dylan - Shelter From The Storm (This is just the first Dylan lyric that came to mind. He has too many amazing ones to list them all.)

The sun beams down on a brand new day
No more welfare tax to pay
Unsightly slums gone up in flashing light
Jobless millions whisked away
At last we have more room to play
All systems go to kill the poor tonight

Dead Kennedys - Kill the Poor

Who am I? Fighting a war that I can't win. Swelling with things we try to hide. You never leave anyone behind. A harsh return that slaps you in the face. For one last chance, we leave this place. We're all packing up and moving on. I've got a war in the head. Fear our lives won't pass as great events. A better prospect hides up ahead. Do you feel it in the air? We've been crushed beyond oblivion. Farce and death walk hand in hand. Graves and memorial walls hold my family name. Pills and bottles do the same. I hope that freedom's coming our way.
Propagandhi - March of the Crabs

That's all I can think of for now.

"I like watching you sleep,
never knew anyone quite like you I'd like to meet.
And I know more than this,
fishing is more than fish.

There you lie next to me
I'd like to know what you dream
I love to listen to you breathe
I hope you don't watch me
cause I'd never sleep.
It's all become paralized
Look at the sky
to tell the time to idolize
through idol eyes.
I'm not getting it.

He bought you flowers
I bought you drink.
You can't drink flowers
but flowers can drink."

-Watching you sleep by Leatherface

"You're one microscopic cog in his catastrophic plan
design and directed by his red right hand."
-Red Right Hand by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

"Like workers in a factory we'll do our share
but there's so many other fucking robots out there."
-Punk Rock Song by Bad Religion

And I guess I'll finish off this contribution with a whole song, that rocks.

Standing on top of the edge of a building.
Fcing the traffic I'm ready and willing.
To fly for a moment let gravity set in the end.
I'm taking my last step into the sky
feel myself falling I'm ready to die.
Passing the windows drenched in the evening sun.

And  I can see the workers, working on and on.
And with my last breath I sing:

You're so beautiful
in your cubicle
your office looks so clean and efficient
but come outside and see the mess that I've made
all across your dreams forever.

I land on the pavement
I'm not quite yet dead.
A few seconds of twitching
my sight blurring red
all the bones in my body have already
turned into dust.
I believe I disgusted a number of people.
Spattered in blood like a bomb on a steeple
but I don't care at all very much.

-I dont know the name of the song.
but it's by Nylon Shootout.

Yep, it's all Iced Earth.

“Spill your blood
Offer me good omen
Make the sacrifice, the hours close at hand
Burn your soul
Offer me good omen
Take your very life, this I command”

-Iced Earth - Burnt Offerings

“I had a friend many years ago
One tragic night he died
The saddest time of my life
For weeks and weeks I cried
Through the anger and through the tears
I've felt his spirit through the years
I'd swear, He's watching me
Guiding me through hard times

We shared dreams like all best friends
Blood brothers at the age of ten
We lived reckless, he paid the price
But why? Why did he have to die?
It still hurts me to this day
Am I selfish for feeling this way?
I know he's an angel now
Together we'll be someday”

-Iced Earth - Watching Over Me

“Listen not to ones who preach
Those who feel you're a freak
Everything about you is wrong
You must be sick, you don't belong"

-Iced Earth - Stand Alone

“Life's a bitch, life's a whore
Nothing less, nothing more”

-Iced Earth - My Own Savior

“My spirit begins to rise to the heavenly skies
Just to be shunned away by you
Now all I want is to die, no streets of gold in the sky
And I wash my hands of you”

-Iced Earth - A Question Of Heaven

“Judge me not my shallow friend
Lest ye be judged yourself
You abuse the words you preach
You mold them for yourself”

-Iced Earth - Brainwashed

"One nation under the gun
Where forward thinking is shunned
A violent tradition
Of archaic value systems
Where violence justified
Is just another pride
Under the surface lies
A holy plastic empire
With guarded golden fences
Where misfortune shelters decision
A pain wrought from blood flowing green

The myth of protection is a sick fascination
A culture of violence is what you are feeding
Fear is an heirloom and hate is contagious
A nation of sadists is what you are breeding

It's everywhere
Everywhere that you see
But who decides
If you watch or turn the other cheek
And only in your mind is it your given right
To be armed to the teeth
It's a common disease
The only immunity is to disarm
This holy plastic empire disease"

right now I can only think of Low qoutes, but really they are only good if you take the whole song. But anyway there is fx.:

"I could sink to the bottom of you
with a stone on a chain
without breathing in
I could tell you and tell you again
that there is only one
though many have been"

Kashmir - Petite Machine

"You'd be surprised if you looked through the eyes of a nova
not recognizing the molehills on top of the star
cheerful and swollen he waves from his seat in a rover
that is his car

you wouldn't doubt him to shake the most powerful hands of importance
changing the world as we know it by leaving his ink
To judge from the fence ´round his house he must love all his children
that's what you think

but there's no time to think
have a pill and a shrink
just don't show us how you sweat
making love to your kids
is the last love that you will ever get"

Kashmir - Lampshade

"with a rude tongue dressed in spiteful eloquence
you would call
calling for a love that never came
you would wait, you would call
and you'd wait and you'd call

back here i am in search for answers
i won't accept what i was told
It's only fair to die from cancer
when you're old enough to say you're old
the reverb you left is never over
tolling for the only one who is not present -

still so gorgeous
so enchanted
so forever"

Kashmir - Gorgeous

generally Kashmir makes amazing lyrics in my not so humble opinion..

oh no! lyrics from a GY!BE song??

The lyrics amidst my signature from "Dead Flag Blues".

the car's on fire and there's no driver at the wheel
and the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides
and a dark wind blows
the government is corrupt
and we're on so many drugs
with the radio on and the curtains drawn

we're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine
and the machine is bleeding to death

the sun has fallen down
and the billboards are all leering
and the flags are all dead at the top of their poles

ASturge, you left out the other amazing "Oh Comely" parts:

"but oh comely it isn't as pretty as
you'd like to guess
in your memory you're drunk on your awe to me
it doesn't mean anything at all"
and
"now we move to
feel for ourselves inside some stranger's stomach
place your body here let your skin begin to blend
itself with mine"

Also, Wolf Parade's "Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts"
"But God doesn't always have the best God-damned plans, does he?"

and the Decemberists "Here I Dreamt I was an Architect"
"And we are vagabonds
We travel without seatbelts on
We live this close to death
And try one, and try two
Guess it always comes down to
Alright, it's okay, guess it's better to turn this
But I won, so you lose
Guess it always comes down to
Alright, it's okay, guess it's better to turn this way"

Pretty much any Decemberists, actually.
And the whole of Cursive's "Staying Alive."

in internet rooms and computer mainframes
there's loads of emails but your mother's blue veins.
not the ones in her legs or the backs of her arms
but the ones in her member hidden in her gown.
she walks around proud, with a short dress on

This song describes how I feel completly. I have slept maybe 10 hours in the last 4 days. My whole life is crazy and I've been stuck at work.
DILLINGER FOUR LYRICS

"SELLTHEHOUSESELLTHECARSELLTHEKIDSFORGETITI'MNEVERCOMINGBACKFORGETIT"

I've lost more sleep than I can say
And blurred the lines between the days
Pour myself another cup
Put one out light another up
My mind's stopped making any sense
I've lost track of the present tense
Don't wanna leave, don't wanna stay
I'd kill to bring back yesterday
Folded up and left for dead
The things I wish I would've said
The times I should've turned and run
But the damage was already done
And I dug myself a deeper hole
Raked myself over the coals
Reason brings redemption
But redemption won't be mind

Suppressed my frustation
But it returned
Lost in the translation
I'm not concerned
Smoke 'em if you got 'em
'Cause we're never gonna learn
And dance upon the ashes of this world

Got hours more and miles to go
I feel the clock begin to slow
Play the hand that I was dealt
By the enemy that is myself
If I don't get out from under this
I might never know what I fucking missed
I'm at the breaking point
But don't know where to draw the line

I'm ticking like a fucking bomb
Had the best of intentions
My resolve outlasts my apprehensions
Won't be the first time
Not gonna be the last
I looked ahead through bleary eyes
And wondered what was left
Wondered will I pass the test

I've lost myself and found myself
And then I lost it all again

It comes down to me in the end
The more I know
The less I comprehend
It comes down to me in the end

Some more that are not Skyclad:

"It won't be nice to,
Meet up with me...
'cos all I wanna do...
IS TO FISTFUCK YOU!"

"I am the loving darkness,
That sweetly embraces your soul!"
Cryptic Wintermoon - Supersatan (Both just random pre-verse interludes, brilliant)

"You hide behind trivial cynicism
Venomous tongues spitting forth lies
So quick to criticize the life of others
Who are you to judge us

Laughing right into your face
As we watch your infantile behaviour
Love us or hate us - we don't care
We never aimed to please you"
Arch Enemy - Leader of the Rats

"You are born into bondage,
You are born as a slave!
"What am I?"
You're a slave!
Forever submissive,
Forever in holy chains!"
Carpathian Forest - Doomed to Walk the Earth as Slaves of the Living Dead

"He hung himself in the middle of the night
Found dead in the mornings bright light
Got no more lithium,
Gave up life.
They say: you better give up now,
Its not worth the strife.
The sole consolation...

He's turning blue,
He's turning blue,
He's turning blue,
He's turning blue....
And nobody cares!"
Carpathian Forest - He's Turning Blue

"I'm so sorry to hear of your bitter loss
I know my words can only offer
but so much comfort for you
Just know that I am here
to ease your lonely feelings
To fill this time of grieving...
and remind you it's YOUR FAULT!"

"Now here's where I should say that
"he's in a better place"
but on the day he died,
I could have sworn...
There came the strangest sound
It was as if the whole of heaven
came crumbling Fucking down!"
Arsis - The Sadistic Motives Behind Bereavment Letters

"One of these days, I'm gonna cut you to little pieces/dance with the little pixies..." (lines played at the same time)
Pink Floyd - One of These Days

Who have never seen the sun
But they really know how to party!"
Korpiklaani - Wooden Pints

We have come devoid of love
A cornucopia of disease
We will bring you to your knees!

We're the Vampire Punk Rockers from Hell!
And we have come to destroy your world!"
Inkubus Sukkubus - Vampire Punk Rockers From Hell

Again, I'll leave off for a bit.

*points to sig* That describes my work ethic to a T.

From The Futureheads' Decent Days and Nights: "If you want to be here, and you'd rather be late, then the best thing you could do is get lost on the way." I love that line.

LOL I like this one! (which is one of the few I've read. Should't people quote just some lines?)

As much as I've tried to get away from scremo, I still have a fetish for Thursday. So, instead of quoting every thursday song ever written, I'll just pick my fave and hope you realize I love it /all/.

" ...but tomorrow I'll be you, just pick up the phone---I'm calling from /your/ house, in /your/ room, in /your/ name, lying in /your/ bed, following /your/ dreams, I listen to /your/ voice get caught in my throat, as I sing, 'this is just a dream'..."  Thursday--"Tomorrow I'll be you"

"but tomorrow I'll be you, just pick up the phone"

That is the silliest damn line in any song ever. It's the 'just pick up the phone' bit that gets me, it has a kinda mainstream R'n'B vibe to it.

My favourite Thursday lyric is proabably
"For now we can call it 'The Book About the Basic Flaw'
Or 'The Book About the Letter A'
Or 'Any Title That a Book About a Man That No One Cares About Might Have'"

which probably doesn't count as a lyrics because it's not sung. I don't know. Thursday's lyrics sound really great in the context of the song, but they just don't seem to stand up well by themselves

This is pretty much a whole song, but screw it, it's great.

Because metal (or, well, Skyclad) can be lovey and sensitive too:

Skyclad - You Lost My Memory

Unstoppable force and immovable object,
repel one another when by chance colliding.
The Brownian-Motion within this love potion,
ensures our opinions are always dividing.
I am from Mars my dear;
you hail from Venus.
A meeting star-crossed
like the Sun and the Moon.
Destined to let this cruel world
come between us.
Our last kiss eclipsed by a shadow at noon.

A rose that is built
out of music by moonlight;
petals stained ruby with nightingale blood.
Cast down in disgust
to be crushed by a cart-wheel,
because of mere trivia misunderstood.

We quest for a grail of illusive perfection,
each hoping we'll find it some glorious day.
Yet gaze with remorse at our jaded reflection,
that looks like The Picture Of Dorian Gray.

[Chorus:]
Siamese Twins who were joined at the heart.
Love's an affliction without a known remedy.
Blunt-bladed fate
deemed to cleave us apart;
Emotional surgery pays no indemnity.
Some seek release with effete anaesthesia,
others adapt to the role of sworn enemy.
You found nepenthe in cheap, sweet amnesia;
It was far easier losing my memory.

And the nightingale sang:
"Sing love's lament
with a thorn at your breast.
Impaled by her barb;
cruel and unforgiving.
A million dead poets would gladly attest;
heart-ache's a keepsake
to remind us we're living."

They really don't, do they? You /are/ right about the pick up the phone thing, but the rest of that bit gives me shivers, I can say truthfully. As for spoken parts, another one that sounds stupid written, but amazing in a song,

Here, in this collapsed lung of a borough, there is no sunlight, the sunlight is manufactured in a windowless room, distant and incoherent, businessmen hang themselves...

My favorite show tune is currently Schadenfreude from Avenue Q, just because it's so damned funny. For best effect, download the song though.

GARY COLEMAN:
Right now you are down and out and feeling really crappy

NICKY:
I'll say.

GARY COLEMAN:
And when I see how sad you are
It sort of makes me...
Happy!

NICKY:
Happy?!

GARY COLEMAN:
Sorry, Nicky, human nature-
Nothing I can do!
It's...
Schadenfreude!
Making me feel glad that I'm not you.

NICKY:
Well that's not very nice, Gary!

GARY COLEMAN:
I didn't say it was nice! But everybody does it!

D'ja ever clap when a waitress falls and drops a tray of glasses?

NICKY:
Yeah...

GARY COLEMAN:
And ain't it fun to watch figure skaters falling on their asses?

NICKY:
Sure!

GARY COLEMAN:
And don'tcha feel all warm and cozy,
Watching people out in the rain!

NICKY:
You bet!

GARY COLEMAN:
That's...

GARY AND NICKY:
Schadenfreude!

GARY COLEMAN:
People taking pleasure in your pain!

NICKY:
Oh, Schadenfreude, huh?
What's that, some kinda Nazi word?

GARY COLEMAN:
Yup! It's German for "happiness at the misfortune of others!"

NICKY:
"Happiness at the misfortune of others." That is German!

Watching a vegetarian being told she just ate chicken

GARY COLEMAN:
Or watching a frat boy realize just what he put his dick in!

NICKY:
Being on the elevator when somebody shouts "Hold the door!"

GARY AND NICKY:
"No!!!"
Schadenfreude!

GARY COLEMAN:
"Fuck you lady, that's what stairs are for!"

NICKY:
Ooh, how about...
Straight-A students getting Bs?

GARY COLEMAN:
Exes getting STDs!

NICKY:
Waking doormen from their naps!

GARY COLEMAN:
Watching tourists reading maps!

NICKY:
Football players getting tackled!

GARY COLEMAN:
CEOs getting shackled!

NICKY:
Watching actors never reach

GARY AND NICKY:
The ending of their oscar speech!
Schadenfreude!
Schadenfreude!
Schadenfreude!
Schadenfreude!

GARY COLEMAN:
The world needs people like you and me who've been knocked around by fate.
'Cause when people see us, they don't want to be us, and that makes them feel great.

NICKY:
Sure!
We provide a vital service to society!

GARY AND NICKY:
You and me!
Schadenfreude!
Making the world a better place...
Making the world a better place...
Making the world a better place...
To be!

GARY COLEMAN:
S-C-H-A-D-E-N-F-R-E-U-D-E!

Also pretty much every lyric from the Barenaked Ladies is awesome.

I followed your perfume out away from all the rabble
Right up to your room for a drink and travel Scrabble
You, stationed in the warm glow of the t.v.
Too patient as I'm playing l-o-v-e

I'm glad this thread has taken off.

Any lyrics involving the Weakerthans is awesome.

'You are a radio,
you are an open door,
I am a faulty string of blue christmas lights.

You swim through frequencies,
you let that stranger in,
as Im blinking off and on, and off again'

All the lyrics to that song is super neat too.

My parents were at a Tom Paxton gig a while back. He's a folk singer well known for his political tunes, and he told the crowd he had written a song about how he felt when GWB was re-elected as president. It's only lyric was "Shit."

"Well the point was fast but it was too blunt to miss, life handed us a paycheck and we said, 'we worked harder than this!'"

Okay, so it's only 'cause I'm flooding my house with Modest Mouse cranked as loud as it'll go, but I still love that line. 's from Bury Me With It.

"I am a prisoner in a war full of idiots
the stomping feet of waltzing hypocrites
pave the way for a brave tomorrow
choke the throat of passion and sorrow
kill my drifting breeze of thought
I have been captured, I have been caught
I am a prisoner in a war of scowls
coughing youth from it's bowels
I'm doing fine
I'm feeling well
deep inside my dark well cell"

- Punk Rock in the Wrong Hands by pageninetynine

"Here comes the future and you can’t run from it
If you’ve got a blacklist I want to be on it"

- Waiting for the Great Leap Forwards by Bully Bragg

"I'm a clown and I'm choking on blood, teeth and tongue
fuck the spectators, fuck the 'he was so young'
fuck the forced sympathy through lifeless glass eyes
povichian voyeurs drinking my cries
fuck faced trilobites waiting to die
I can't stand the humor
and I can't stand the lies"

- Alert the Audience by The Lawrence Arms

"a fistfull of feeling tossed into the water
the boat has a hole we're sinking take it in stride and stand down
the world comes much harder than one thousand hard hands
and when it fights fight back with bright minds
yes it is uncertain but i'm surely certain that we all must get along
and take it in hand and pull yourself up
this comes much harder than one thousand hard hands
such in that gut you're in luck
you've got one thousand people on your side
take it in stride
and when there's nothing left to patch the hole
we'll swim together and let the boat sink to the bottom of the stream
with all it's long lost friends
(abandoned drown in loneliness not strong enough to hold our dreams)
and if it comes down to just you and i
standing on the last corner of the last town
of the last city in the burning world
you'll still have someone on your side
life is bigger, so much bigger than all of this"

The two of you who mentioned Oh Comely deserve medals. Lyrically that song is indeed Godcake.
Anyhoo:

These walls are paper thin and everyone hears every little sound
Everyone’s a voyeur as they’re watching me watch them watch me right now
They’re shaking hands and shaking in their shoes, oh lord don’t shake me down
Everyone wants two of them and half of everyone else who's around
It’s been agreed the whole world stinks so no one’s taking showers anymore
Laugh hard, it’s a long ways to the bank
