The Lawrence Arms
The Broadways

I love both those bands so freaking much, I'm glad you mentioned them.
I personally enjoy short quotes from songs, they stick with me bettter.
"Everything's changed so much, nothing ever changes" & "Breathe deep, fill your lungs with me" - Lawrence Arms songs I can't put my finger on.

Another favourite is "Oh, distance has no way of making love understandable" - Wilco, Radio Cure

"The world is an oyster locked in a shell, you like the taste of it but can't take the smell." - Jawbreaker, Oyster

"I dragged this lake looking for corpses
Dusted for prints, pried up the floorboards
Pieces of planes and black box recorders
Don't lie
And I've been preoccupied with these sick, sick senses
That sense DNA on barbed wire fences
Maybe someday I'll find me a suspect
That has no alibi
New Year's Eve was as boring as heaven
I watched flies fuck on channel 11
There was no one to kiss, there was nothing to drink
Except some old rotten milk someone left in the sink
And there's no ring on the phone anymore
There's no reason to call I passed out on the floor
Smoked myself stupid and drank my insides raisin dry
But at the right place at the right time
I'll be dead wrong and you'll be just fine
And I won't have to quit doing fucked up shit
For anyone but me
And at the right place at the right time
It will have been worth it to stand in line
And you won't have to stop
Saying "I love cops" for anyone but me
Your private eye" - Alkaline Trio - Private Eye

'No, you don't know what happened and you never will if
You don't listen to me while I talk to the wall'
-Snow Patrol

Pretty much anything from Arcade Fire (Funeral, at least)

'She said she had a new friend
I hope that by the end
He throws her heart to the floor
She says he's really ok
I hope he ends up gay
It's not a nice thing to say
But I don't care anymore'
-Bowling for soup

'I wanna f**k a pirate up the ass [and my scurvy mate, arr!]'
-Greenday

A man came up to me and said
"I'd like to change your mind
By hitting it with a rock," he said,
"Though I am not unkind."
We laughed at his little joke
And then I happily walked away
And hit my head on the wall of the jail
Where the two of us live today.

"There's A Metal Head In The Parking Lot"

Looked out with just a dollar fifty and I'm homeless for the day
I was lonely and cold so I walked down to the train station just to pass the time away
Wasted time, wasted day, wasted year
All I know is that I'm growing up so fast and it's scary as hell and I've got to get out of here

It looked so scary to me, it looked so scary to, it looked so scary to me
It looked so scary to me, it looked so scary to, it looked so scary to me
You know from a cold train platform I watched an old man make his way
slowly across the snowy street below
My heart goes out to him and at the same time I'm afraid
Some day it's gonna be my old body walking through snow if I live to get old

It looked so scary to me, it looked so scary to, it looked so scary to me
It looked so scary to me, it looked so scary to, so fucking scary to me
Wasted time, wasted day, waste a day, waste away
We're wasting away

That's not succexy, is it?

=peers at her Metric CD= Isn't that 'calculation theme'?

Ah, well. Still the best song quote ever, I agree heartily.

No, it's not. I didn't mean that... I just think the word 'succexy' is genius. It should be in the dictionary.

"Every ten year-old enemy soldier
Thinks falling bombs are shooting stars sometimes"

Metric - IOU

that's my fav, metric quote...

as for my favourite (big bunch'o) lyrics overall?

[Chanelle:]Suit of gold enslaves your soul,
power of the dollar bill
that tie is a noose around your throat
sick empire makes us ill

[Johnny:]This pill forced down my throat gives me the chills

[C:]Wall street, crumbles into decay.
Monuments of greed are torn away.
Who is Mr. Capitalist?
It sucks that we all have to live like this

[J:] WE HAVE TO LIVE LIKE THIS!
[C:] Hello [J:] Mister [C:] Capi- [J:] talist
[C:] Have you [J:] met my [both:] mister Fucking Fist!

Hello Mr. Capitalist - by The Brat Attack

awesomely hardcore Underground Operations band with a super political song (the song itself is really only about 35 seconds long... but so awesome). There are two vocalists in the song (Chanelle and Johnny)

I've had a lot of time, i've had a lot of time,
You've had a lot of dick chasey, but you ain't had mine"
I know it's lame, but i used to know a girl called Katie Lane. We used to change the words, and played the song in every bar we could find that had it on the jukebox. She never caught on, even though we played it in every bar.

Remember that guy who was sitting over there?
He went to the men's room?  He's dead now..
You'll never see him again.
You didn't even say hi to him and now he's gone!
Don't you feel bad!  I'm sure you do. . yeaah.

"Can I scream?"-Refused

"How can I say without sounding like some cheesy Motley Crew song? So much of what we do driven by thoughts of you", "Was it Van Gogh that was crazy, or was it the world that was crazy" "Like the night we ran/Audi dealershpi/shamshing windshields/pointless/immature/but it quieted our minds/at a time when everyone was asking why", "And did I mention that there are still those days that I can hardly lift my head off of the pillow? Looking out the window of the plane, rooting, rooting for disaster!"-Bane

"If what is boils down to is that you're eiether for us or against us, I guess I've got a tough, tough choice to make"-Suicide File

"My american dream is to have it a little bit better than my parents ever had it"-Less Than Jake

"Fuck what we say, but not what we do, I'm saving myself for something beautifully true"-the Lawrence Arms

(Hell yes for Slapstick references)

Alkaline Trio is wonderful for one line quotes, but I don't think it gets much better than "I can't see straight, but the two of you look awfully pretty" and  "I need a beer to wash it all away without a trace and i'll drink 23 more to wipe this stupid smile off my fucking face"

It's impossible for me to pick a favorite, but Cup of Tea by Sage Francis is pretty nifty.

Every midnight we sit at the coffee table and we share a cup of tea
He stays up with me and we discuss things
Most of the time he just listens
Other times offers suggestions or he just ignores my questions
It gets more depressing as time passes, because every night
I ask this one question and all he does is wipe his glasses
It's aggrevating as hell and I'm just waiting to tell
whether or not he can even remember the answer..
Or whether or not he's choosing not to tamper with his memory..
Or whether or not he can even fucking remember me.
What a waste of time
But every night it's that same damn routine:
One green cup of tea and me stuck all by myself once its empty
Then I'm off to bed with plenty of caffiene to keep me up and thinking
The cup I'm drinking from is never clean
I can't remember if it's a dream once I awake and I walk..
From my messy bed and anticipate the next late night talk

Every midnight we sit at the coffee table and we share a cup of tea
He stays up with me and we discuss things
Most of the time he just listens
Other times offers suggestions with his awful expressions
Altered refelctions...his whole aura is see-through
With more confessions...I don't want to leave you
"This cup should be bottomless!"...as my insecurities spill
I see his face fading away. I surely need a refill
I purposely keep still and don't move much
Except to wet my lips with sips. With every kiss of death I lose touch
I sip the tea carefully because its at the degree of seperation
Tasting the forked tongue in bi-lingual conversation
Waiting for his answer still...and at any given chance I will
Sweet and Low my bitter past...let the cancer kill the small talk
"Alright, man...this bitter taste in my mouth needs to get washed out
Ghosts in this house don't have anything timely to talk about."
The concept is dead. There's nothing death should interrupt

I went to bed last night with one sip left in the cup

Next in line of all you've known a defeatist everyone
Repetition of the last or a precursor of the next
Can you find the girl in me through my insecurities?
Can you find me?
Is this how it needs to be self-fulfilling prophecy
Complete my tragic world
As caught as I can be
And the things you didn't say and what they sang to me
I thought I'd be okay

Defeatist by Somegirl, off of the album "I've Been Known to be Completely Wrong".  I've a soft spot for sad love songs.

Out of gas
Out of road
Out of car
I don't know how I'm going to go and
I had a drink the other day
Opinions were like kittens
I was giving them away and
I had a drink the other day
I had a lot to say
And I said
You will come down soon too
You will come down too soon
