Hawksley Workman
« on: 29 Jun 2005, 09:26 »

It seems the man is in the midst of creating a new album for us. In the meantime he's using his site's news area as a blog. Given the greatness achieved in past albums (specifically Delicious Wolves and Lover/Fighter) I'm pretty excited for this.

Is that his real name?

Because if so, he had cruel parents.

Actually his real name is Ryan Corgan. But I do happen to like the name Hawksley.

aw, I seriously thought his name was Hawksley Workman and that it only added to his glory. Though I suppose I cannot call myself a fan, seeing as how I haven't heard Lover/Fighter, maybe I should buy that one...ah I can't figure out what to buy, there is simply too much good music... of course, I don't mean that ;)

I only ever downloaded one Hawksley Workman song, but I do really enjoy it. I'm jealous of your cigarette. Can somebody recommend some other song by him I can get?

THIS IS AAAAAAAANGER AS BEAUTY
AAAAAAAAAANGER AS BEAUTY
AAAAAAAANGER AS BEAAAAU-TYYYYYYYYY!

Hawksley Workman was at the Folk Fest here in Regina last year but I could only afford to go to the main stage on one night and I picked not Hawksley Workman. That ended up feeling like a mistake later.

This year I get to see the Weakerthans and Buck 65 so it kind of makes up for it but still! No Hawksley! :(!

After a check of his website, I can declare that he is not touring here, but his website is possibly one of my favourite band/artist websites evar.

ALL of them, but for a good starter, go with his last release Lover/Fighter. It's a nice ecclectic mix of his stuff.

Because our folk festival is the best folk festival ever. We've got the Sadies again this year and they're pumped to perform, according to interviews in all sorts of non-Regina magazines.

But this guy isn't folk. He doesn't even sound THAT folky.

Yeah, I have to admit the fest is just becoming more of a festival of indie sort of stuff. I mean, Buck 65? The Weakerthans? Not really folk, I must say.

They should call it a rock festival then!

When I go to a folk festival, I expect beards, hairy jumpers, real ale and strange females with oddly coloured hair and fiddles.

Not hipsters!

Well see the majority of the bands/festival-goers are these people. Also you only pay for like the nighttime stuff, the rest of the performances are in little free tents which you can walk to from the street. It's hard to explain, but it's an awesome folk festival. And Hawksley Workman apparently was awesome there last year.
