Rules:
Name the song from which the lyrics come. The rule is no googling or cheating. OBVIOUSLY! If you're right which you will *KNOW* then you post your own lyrics.. (Dont post the entire song.. no more than four lines)

I shall go first with a nice easy one.

"Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight"

Either "Little Girl" or "You're a Woman, I'm a Machine". I'm not sure. My gf played me a bunch of DFA1979 once. Didn't like it much, but what the heck, I recognized some lyrics so whateva.

Lyrics:

Ships were made for sinking
Whisky made for drinking

Squirrel Nut Zippers - Ghost of Stephen Foster

"He said in the cosmos is a single sonic sound
That is vibrating constantly
And if we could grip and hold on to the note
We would see our minds were free...oh they're free"

Judas Priest - Dreamer Deceiver

I'll post something fairly easy --

"Come hear the moon is calling,
The witching hour draws near,
Come hear the bell is tolling,
Mortals run in fear"

Venom - Witching Hour

"Wow man, it's a drag being a rock
I wish I was anything but a rock
Heck, I'd even like to be a policeman
Hey, you know what, you know maybe if I practised, you know
Maybe if I passed my driving test
I could get a gig drivin' that bus and pick some freaks up
In front of Ben Franks, right!"

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

Zappa - Help I'm a Rock

I only know that because my dad liked Zappa.

You'll take my life but I'll take yours too
You'll fire your musket but I'll run you through
So when you're waiting for the next attack
You'd better stand there's no turning back.

The tropper, by iron maiden

All I know is the world came between us
And the love got left behind
No news falsh funeral, Half mast flags
On the day that our love died
And I'd tell you face to face
If I could look you in the eye
So I just called to say goodbye

I know for sure that the song is "Long Distance". The band, I am not sure of...

Sorry, but I had to cheat to find the artist's name. Apparently it's Ann Beretta.[/shame]

Lyrics:

Put down your bags
Take up your scythe
'Cause this world wasn't meant for us both

i hear the live in crematoriums and smoke your remains."

that slogan is a good slogan. so good, in fact, I think it should be applied to other things. like, "there's no wrong way to hit your spouse." or "there's no wrong way to commit nonconsentual sodomy."

REVIVAL!

I remembered this thread while my extremely (uber-extremely) musically knowledgable friend Dylan was over, and he claims the saong to be by a band called The Betes Noires. He doesn't know the song name... Obviously, neither do I.

Anyways:

"Birds and fairies,
Sanctuaries.
Atop the rolling hills of Hell."

Zeromancer - Famous Last Words

"We drove down into Memphis, the sky was hard and black
Up over the ridge came a white Cadillac
They'd drawn out all his money and they laid him in the back
A woman cried from the roadside "Ah he's gone, he's gone"
They found him slumped up against the drain
With a whole lot of trouble running through his veins"

Well... it appears I killed the game.

That was John Vanderslice - Underneath the Leaves.

Here's an easier one:

"And I say your uncle was a crooked french canadian
And he was gut-shot running gin
And how his guts were all suspended in his fingers
and how he held 'em
How he held 'em held, 'em in "

The Decemberists - July, July.

Okay, here's mine:

I recall a schoolboy coming home
Through fields of cane
To a house to tin and timber
And in the sky
A rain of falling cinders.
From time to time
The waste memory-wastes

There are numerous people in this forum who should get this one instantly - and then there are many more who probably won't have the faintest idea.

Quote from: Awkward Silence
The Go-Betweens - Cattle And Cane!

Will,
Do the children really understand the things you did to them?
And why oh why…
Should they conjure up the will for you my love I would kill him
we're coming home pretty soon
Coming home

I don't know if many people on the board would get this.

Coheed and Cambria - In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3.

Claudio is the new Geddy Lee! \o/

errrr, something really difficult?

There was a boy
I almost knew him
A glance exchanged
Made me feel good
Leaving some signs - now a legend.
