Because you said it in a much more aggravating way, and were rather dimissive of those who liked it.
I enjoy the hell out of this show. The Miniseries was meh, but good to watch to see the set up for the show over all. It suffered from bad writing. The television show has rectified this, and the acting is superb. I honestly think this show is better than the original. It is also probably the best acted and well written drama on television right now.
It is extremely well written, the characters are fully developed and very human (even the cylons). The good guys are never always good and the bad guys aren't always pure evil, the guinuinely believe in what they are doing. The plot tends to focus on the characters, which is why it really is a drama on space as opposed to a rehashed shoot em up piece of science fiction trash. In fact it isn't a show for someone who isn't into thinking about what they are watching, there is a hell of a lot of subtle character development that will affect things later on. The writers fit in little moments of human tenderness and emotion without being melodramatic or beating you over the head with it. It shows fear in a very honest way, the heros are human.
Season one is out on DVD, I plan on picking it up as soon as I can. Taken as a whole it is a very compelling story, and there have been episodes which have had me on the edge of my seat or tearing up.
Season two is three episodes in, so far I'm enjoying it just as much. Edward James Olmos has been taken out of the plot for a few episodes, and I'm glad they did it, his character is my favourite, but he is such a charasmatic actor that he tends to take up the screen. I was wondering how the rest of the actors would manage without him holding up the show, and they're doing a superb job.
I don't care if you don't like it, what bothers me are folks who are dismissive of it without giving it a try, simply because it isn't the original.
